Forum Request

Ok.. I'm on 56k and this bothers me, so if you're not this might not bother you.

I'd like to request that along with the size/width of your signature, if you post an image in your sig the size of the file has a limit. Sometimes I open a thread and theirs people with animated gifs in their sigs, and the threads take 3-5 minutes to fully load because of the one picture. I have no problems with all other sigs.

I think this is a good idea for us slow connection people. Thanks.

It's not attachment. It's linking a file into your sig, linking very large filed pictures.

What? I showed you how to turn off signatures and avatars so they don't load.

There's still a person who has a 700kb (!) signature, for example.

And people with oversized signatures (by this I mean the entire signature, not just images).

Everything is fine for me, and I'm on 56k.
It's just not the dial-up, probably that your brothers computer isn't that good either.

700 kb in your sig is far too big. And I don't want to turn off sigs and stuff, I like them. I just don't like amazingly big ones.

I still think a 100kb limit should be strictly enforced.

I will run a check on the sigs as time permits....right now I am kinda busy getting my kids ready for school after quite a few Dr's appointments for one of my kids who not only broke her hand, but had strep throat and some other virus in her throat which causes ulcers in the throat, and my oldest daughter moved out, so we have been switching rooms between the other 2.
After Monday (when school starts), things should slow down a bit for me, I hope....

We don't need more limits on our signatures because you don't want to be patient. I suggest 2 options.
#1. Disable the loading of Avatars and/or Signatures in your CP
#2. Get yourself a cable ISP such as Road Runner, you wont have anymore trouble with downloading or uploading.

I'm not impatient. But, when it gets to the point where every page I open has some sort of 1mb sig on it my comp loads it new every time I change pages. So no, I am not going to download 6 mb just to read a 6 page thread.

As I said, I LIKE sigs and avatars. Just not ones that are so big that they shouldn't be anywhere near these forums. I'm not going to turn them off just so I can't see 2-3.

This is not a question of speed, but one of wasting bandwidth.
Also I do not want to do without any signatures, therefore disabling signatures as a whole does not make sense to me either.

There is NO reason to have a 1meg sig, and very little to have a 100+kb sig.

I think that the limit should be more customizable, like 50-500 kb, and the reader's choice. If somebody wants to see every sig, great, if somebody wants to see no sigs over 100kb, then great.

I'd agree for some sort of forum option to not show sigs over 100kb. Sounds good to me.

I have most of the larger sigs saved on my computer somewhere, so I don't notice the lagg (on 56k) but yeah, I was rather suprised to see those images in the sigs, it's not healthy

You don't get everything you want... why should I be punished because some people don't have a good internet connection. I like the big signatures, as long as they dont extend my screen to the side I have no problem.

Either:
1)You wait
2)You disable them.

and note-I don't mean outlandishly large ones.

Somebody hasn't been reading the topic. He's talking about outlandishly large ones - for 56ks. Just because it doesn't effect you (much) doesn't mean everybody should suffer.

The only sig that would have to be cut on this topic is Mykel's, but only because it's a photo and thus too realistic.

I thought there already was a limit for signatures?

I'm on a 56k modem right now. I have no trouble at all.

A solution to this problem would be to have an option to disable avatars or signatures over # kilobytes. Unfortunately we don't have such an option.

It was on topic because it was explaining something else on topic. She could have just said "I dont have time" but that wouldnt sound right so she was uh, whats it called.."elaborating"(?)

Its quite easy to see how that could have been shortened to the point where a person would understand without her having to go into details.

Gee, I apologize that my "detailed" post upset a couple of you...next time I will just say "I dont have time", then you know what will happen? I will get bashed for that too, so just drop it and go back on topic.....

I'm on 56k, also. It doesn't really bother me unless you have those huge hour long animation signatures. I think Joker is the one with the bigass go get some popcorn and watch the movie signature.

There's no real reason for a big signature. If you think they're so great, make a page dedicated to them, but I don't think there's room for them here.

Something like this seems like the best option to me. The actual amount allowed is debatable..probably o_O...or you could just have the option to choose how big you want visible signatures to be, like a scroll menu or something.

Counts for you too. The avatar uploader already checks if the filesize does not exceed the limit, and so there's no rule for that.

Did I say so? No. And neither did I say there shouldn't be an enforced limit to signature size.

Isn't this thread requesting a signature size limit?? Isn't there already one? o.O

Nappa, click off the 'Show Signature' X, too bad if you like looking at some of them, you aren't getting 'punished' by us simply because our sigs take awhile to load, YOU are 'punishing' yourself by not using that option. It's there for you to use, now use it.
