Playerworld Reviews?

Well before what happened last night, i had a pointer link, but now it appears i dont.

Anyways, back when Geo was PW Admin, and there was a team, there were testers to play and review playerworlds. Well I remember a question on the PWA Application that asked us to review an online classic server (This was my whole reason for trying out for the PWA, cause I wanted to review and help playerworlds.) Neverthe less the hiring went on without me.

I Expected to see some reviews, or mabye Reviews of servers getting onto this magical "Hosted" tab, hell, Bravo Evolved went classic and i dont think there was ever a review for the players to know its status, i assume that goes for Engima too.

Its a shame that this practice still dosent go on, i believe it could benifit the general player, the staff of any server, and prospecting playerworlds, to see what they are up too.

I recall something about
"If you want a review of a server contact a PWA member you want it from"
Or something

I think they said the hosted tab is for worlds looking for more staff. Reviews don't really matter it seems with the low quality worlds that have shown up on that tab recently.

You recall incorrectly.
Maybe we can do it for CLASSIC playerworlds, but that would be rare.
I don't think as your online from paying we should bother doing 'reviews' as such.

yes, but if they are GOOD enough to be on the hosted tab, I think they deserve a review... Maybe then the quality of PW's int he hosted tab will go up again
o.o
Also, I believe if a PW goes from hosted, to public, a review should be posted about that PW....

I think the PWA's responcibilities have gone from mostly reviewing PW's, to mostly policing these private PW's, and I don't like it they should be more than just PW police.... the GGT should take responcibility for handling stolen gfx, the GST should take responcibility for handling stolen scripts, and then there should be a GLT (Global Levels Team) to handle stolen levels.... (and maybe help PW's with making levels, like the GGT and GST try to do) then all PWA would need to do is check to make sure all staff are IP locked, and there aren't too many level 4 RC's, and then they might have enough time to actually write up reviews and post them
:o

Too true, this is my point.

If there was going to be such a thing not happening, then why was the question included in the PWA Test? My submission would have been loads shorter, and easier to do (I think my review alone was close to 2 or 3 pages?).

Another point i was trying to make, is two servers went Classic, and i dont know about anyone else, but i didnt know untill they had gone classic, or just moments before.

All PW's are reviewed in some form or fashion, even the "hosted ones" get looked at. No it may not be a formal review as would be the classic but they are not just "thrown up" at random.

Not the point, it would be benificial to see these reviews like Aftershock or Geo used to do. Times have changed some yes, but this shouldnt have, looking at a server, and informing people of it, are two diffrent things.

Why is there never any love for the level makers?

good level makers are as rare as good gfx, and good scripters I think...

But my point was to have OTHER people worry about stolen thing, rather than the PWA, so then you guys have time to write formal reviews of PW's, which should be your job...

maybe just split the PWA into a section for reviewing PW's, and and another for policing PW's, and catching stealers... either that, or hire more PWA I guess... either way, it would be nice to see some reviews getting made

Ahah my point finally! Im sure ETD youve gotten it from the begining, but thats what the PWA used to do, and it was supposed to be the most fun part.

Its only a suggestion, and perhaps it would pay to have a second team, like back when Geo was PWA

Geovannie did the Authorization and passing, Vincent did reviews, Geo did reviews too, but not as many.

We, the PWA, do set some policies as it was asked of us, and if nobody cracked down on rights, IP ranges etc... we would have about 10x more attacks and problems, and thats fact.

Since public reviews is not a requirement maybe it could be an be an option for the pw? A good idea might be that if a pw wants a review posted, they could ask a pwa member to do one and publically post it? Wouldn't that certainly show the good from the bad? I mean, a pw isnt going to ask for a review (normally) if they think they will fail, so in my opinion, if you see reviews on a pw, it shows they are making an effort to become good, or might be good already.

Ususally (I think) only the passing reviews were posted... but I may be wrong
=x
but yea, making it optional would be nice for when a PW goes to the hosted tab... but I still think that there should be a manditory public review of the PW if one ever goes from hosted to public... to let the players know what it's like, and why it got moved, and all that... I mean, to me, writing those reviews should be the biggest part of being a PWA, not policing the private servers... I mean, anyone can walk around a server, and be like "oo, this is nice *pass* " .... and like I said before, I'm sure the GST, and the GGT could handle stolen material... if not, they should I think

but that was just ****ing **** comments about us level makers...

Seriously... Global level making would be the ****ing same need as Global Scripters...
There is alot of things that GLT could do... Some of you guys are just to stupid to understand it.

Don't take it personal like I have. I don't care any more, no point in fighting. It's obvious no more globals are needed, allthough they coud be; mabey we might do some work.

Where did you get the idea Geo was ever PWA? He was never PWA.. He was serveral things but PWA was not one of them..

There is a need for those Teams, GFX can be stolen outside Graal and put in the Game. Scripts are checked more for bad scripts and security than anything else so what would a GLT do? Since levels cannot be taken from outside Graal then all they would do is check for Servers stealing from one another. That does not need a Team to do since that would not keep one person busy much less a "Team" of people so the GLT is not needed. There is nothing wrong with what you guys do and has it's own place on Graal but not as a Global Team, it is something that can be done with the PWA because there is little call for what you want.

Moon God... Geovanie and Vincent Valentine were the first 2 PWA's, maybe not official ones though. On the old old old website to be review you had to send your playerworld to him.
After a while they were removed and others came along... that 30 person team or something, then narrowed down, ... then Chrono, Psyker, Jinx, Aftershock, Toran, Urizen, Nemesis, Alkaren and so on.

I'm not hating on the level makers. I just don't think it is necessary for there to be a global team. If someone wants to make levels for a PW then fine they can go and contribute their time to any playerworld. As for using them to find stolen levels, that is absurd in my opinion because the average player can do that and report it to the PWA.

I knew about Vincent Valentine but neither was an Admin because neither had any powers. I concede that could be possible but if he (Geo) was, it wasn't very long. It's not like Geo ever stuck to anything very long, maybe because he kept disappearing all the time. First PW Admin I remember if my memory serves me right was Psyker then Nemesis with Aftershocking taking charge of the PWA later as well as Urizen getting the job I was offered first which was Asst to Nem.But he retracted it without asking me first because he thought I would not give up Npulse and asked Urizen. He should have asked because that wasn't the case but again that is water under the bridge and after what happened with him I glad I wasn't part of his Team.

Couldn't people do that about gfx too? The whole point would be so that the PWA wouldn't have to police PW's as much as they have to now o.o you guys are missing the point... my post wasn;t even all about a GLT, it was about dividing up the work, so the PWA would have more time to do reviews...

I say this, because I am assuming that is why they are not doing reviews of PW's now (lack of time)... if they have time to do formal reviews now, then I think they should do it, since that used to be part of the job discription, and was somethign a lot of players liked to read...

The PWA's job should be more than just logging on a server, walking around, and seeing if they like it or not, and giving it a pass/fail... it should require a nice, formal review, and a rating, so we can see WHY a playerworld was passed, and see what they did right... might help some of these new servers, since they could see what you guys look at, and see what other PW's are doing right...

So, since the whole topic of this thread is about PWA making formal reviews, and posting them, please reply to the topic? o.o
(I say this cuz I don;t see why we're arguing over a GLT, instead of the purpose of this thread...)

Could be from the post stefan made on the forums in what i believe, 2001?

"Geovannie is Playerworld Admin, and Vincent Valentine will act as playerworld reviewer, you can send them your playerworlds as i dont have time to review them as such anymore"

Good idea. I wish more people thought this way, because im bringing up a serouse topic, it shouldnt matter what server it is, i saw reviews from Geovannie reviewing all the online playerworlds. Even that would be acceptable, just to let the people know whats going on. It was classifying Delteria and Elven Lands in such a "Bad Position" at the time.

I really dont understand where this comes into play, if you are so worried about it, why is there not one or two of you specifically dedicated to making sure the rules are followed?

Don't swear.
I've given in level making for a while, it's pointless for nothing
And what moongod said is right, but also you said was right.

Yes, levels have no quality, but GLT could be like GST and help servers with levels, quite the same as GST but atleast I know I would do some levels for servers.
About the stealing, jaffer's right. If a level is stolen like most of mine are, I know they are mine and I know I have proof of them being stolen like I had on Endora. Atleast we could go around servers checking levels for stolen levels though, but instead we have to walk around checking them ().

****in jerks... If you say levels cant be stealed, then how can scripts be stealed??? o.o??? Its the same ****.... If im not wrong GST helps with scripting on servers? Well GLT could help with levels.. just the same **** but u wont understand that cuz u dont belive that level making is important
Considering Stefan asked my opinion on this team, you'd have made me change my mind if I had said yes. And the reason I said no was:
-The person leading the team wasn't anyone I had heard or, not were the levels he submitted as good as they could be.
-The purpose of the team seemed to be making levels, which could be done without a global rc, it could just be a group of people known for making and helping out playerworlds with levels, which would probably be alot better.
-The PWA is okay with handling stolen levels for now, maybe if more became public or more online such a team, or divisions in the PWA would have a good enough purpose.
-The people on the team mostly had been people banned on the forums for being immature (see the bleeped out post quoted, for example) and various other rule breaks, and this is not what is needed for a global staff team.

**again the point of this thread goes undiscussed**

and I didn't even know the GLT was being thought of when I made my post... I was just trying to think of ways to give the PWA time to make formal reviews o.o

-I'm sorry to hear that you didn't know who it was, neither did I since i never knew that it even was question had ever... EVER been made.
-Scripting can be done WITHOUT a global staff member also. Its still the same thing, you should read what we have said. Why do we have a GST team if its the same thing just different development areas? In other words you just put that oppinion against you.
-You aren't okay handling scripting areas??? I guess we can change it so you can handle scripting or stolen GFX instead of handling level making, couldn't we?
-I have really no idea what you are talking about, because i have never heard of a global level making team even being close to be made??? I got mad because you people cant see that its the same thing as GST and GGT...
Thats why i posted a little "immature", because when I defend level makers you guys still post the same thing over and over again without acepting that you are wrong. Also I was never asked to be a GLT so I dont see why you take mine as an exampel??? Thats just stupid because people like Wan are more mature then me... There is level makers on graal that arent bad boys.
Thank you.

I can be a bastard when I want to be. But I'm not taking this challenge up, I've told spark my next 6 month plan. And it dosn't involve anything to do with graal hardly..
I'm only protesting because I'm a LAT, and i'm pretty pissed off on having a GST team who do nothing for servers, same for GGT.. I've got alot of evidence to show this
edit
If I recall, spanky offerd to make one. I guess he's not known enough? (He's like one of the best LATs).. (Y'know account aknts)!

Man I'm so up for a LAT strike.

Not like I'm good and it's not like I do much but I can if I have a goal to meet.

I still think these gst's and ggt's are useless if glt's are thought to be useless.

Couldn't people do that about gfx too? The whole point would be so that the PWA wouldn't have to police PW's as much as they have to now
The more playerworlds there are the more they will have to police them.
Besides that the only time they are really policing them is when they are called upon to check on questionable content. Its not like they are logging on all 125 playerworlds and checking for illegal content every day.

Quote:
my post wasn;t even all about a GLT, it was about dividing up the work, so the PWA would have more time to do reviews...
I think there is a decent amount of time allowed to do reviews. I'm sure there's plenty of good reasons why they aren't posted if they are being done

Quote:
I say this, because I am assuming that is why they are not doing reviews of PW's now (lack of time)...
Possibly, but they do respond within a fast enough time when there are some problematic issues which leads me to believe that they do have some open time.

Quote:
it should require a nice, formal review, and a rating, so we can see WHY a playerworld was passed, and see what they did right... might help some of these new servers, since they could see what you guys look at, and see what other PW's are doing right...
Problem is a lot of it is based on opinion.

I agree that the GLT would be similar to the GGT, but definitely not the same as the GST.

Another great comment. LAT's should go on strike, I mean if we are useless and all like you've all stated what will it matter?
