The Private Message feature of the Graal Communication Centre allows users to send messages to one another without other members seeing them. If you wish to contact a person, to give them a message or request that they speak with you, always use PMs instead of making a thread purely for that purpose. Furthermore, do not post off-topic messages in a thread with the intention of contacting a person. Again, using PMs is the best approach to such matters.
What if their PM box is full?

To safeguard against malicious users, all members are forbidden from attaching executable files to their posts, linking directly to executables or linking to a page dedicated to the download of executables.
Hmmm.

Quote:
Users are not permitted to set signatures or avatars that mimic those of another member, without his/her explicit permission. The moderators reserve the right to arbitrate on whether or not a signature violates this rule.
This needs to be clarified. Should specifically relate to original works.

Quote:
Accounts that take the form 'Admin-Playerworldxxx' or other local staff accounts (staff accounts rae defined as accounts which only work on the server its name contains, for example: Graal2001_FAQ) are not to be used on the message board. These exist purely for administration of the relevant playerworld. Upgrading them yourself (a bad idea anyway) does not remove this restriction.
Although I do not use such an account anymore, does this apply to previous forum account users? or newer ones?

You still do not post "Attention: USER - YOUR PM BOX IS FULL", etc type messages. Private Messages exist for a reason. Some other form of communication should be persued, then, or it should be delayed until the user has cleared their box.

No, they don't suck, you just can't read Terms of Service.

Quote:
Boomspeed Terms of Service says...

Use of Boomspeed for linking to anything other than auction images is restricted to Charter accounts only. Only charter accounts may be used for linking images to chat boards, websites, hosting of web pages (other than non- commercial support pages), etc. eBay ME pages, eBay chat, eBay message boards & eBay forums are considered auction usage and such linking is allowed with FREE accounts. Free accounts may also be used to host: Help, Support, Docs and Educational pages which do not consume a reasonable amount of resources and which both the html & images are hosted on the account (IE linking to images on the FREE BoomSpeed account with hosting the html at another site is not allowed, but hosting the html & images on the BoomSpeed account is allowed.)

..

05/07/02 Update - Boomspeed.Com is only open for use by adults 18 years of age or older. Minors are prohibited from creating or using any types of accounts at Boomspeed.Com. Boomspeed users of free accounts may be subject to a yearly age and address verification process via credit card to ensure that this section of the Terms Of Service, also known as a user agreement is in compliance. Your Boomspeed password should be well protected and you are not allowed to share your Boomspeed password with any minor, nor allow a minor to access your account in any way. Violations of this policy may result in termination of your Boomspeed account with no prior notice.
What this means in simple terms is that from now on, we do not allow those under the age of 18 to sign up for or use any Boomspeed accounts or services. This system will be instated to ensure that BoomSpeed is not being used illegally, and if it is, that the user committing the act is accountable for their actions. With the advent of high profile cases such as Yahoo.Com's "CandyMan" case and the public issues with software piracy, we must continue to ensure viability and longevity of BoomSpeed as well as the security of our user base.
Any use of Boomspeed accounts, which may be considered to be in violation of Unites States' law, in particular, those related to child pornography, indecent content, software piracy, copyright infringement and trademark violations, will be reported to the state or federal agency responsible for the investigation and prosecution of such when we are alerted to such conduct.
In addition, to ensure that we have the resources necessary for active users of our service, any FREE accounts that are not logged into at least once every 45 days, are subject to being deleted without warning nor recoverability. We do not claim to be an image storage site for free users nor do we plan to be, but as long as you continue to log into the system via the webinterface or via FTP, your account will stay on our system indefinitely. If you feel that you have viewed any items, images, webpages, etc, hosted by Boomspeed, which may be in violation of state or federal law, please contact us immediately via email [email protected] or fax at 713.455.5555.
Your account was justifiably terminated. Don't complain.

I don't agree with the executable rule x.x.
It says don't post them, don't directly link to them, and don't link to a site that has them.. basically, absolutely NOTHING relating to them.
I think we should at least be allowed to link to a site that contains executables. For example, it sounds kind of silly for it to be against the rules to link to www.microsoft.com/blah/blah/IMPORTANTFILES/ so a user could go get an important patch they need, or a link to a Linux FTP site.
If people are too stupid to look at the link before they click it (IE miscrosoft instead of microsoft), it's their own fault. It's a waste of time to have to sit and write out instructions on how to get to a certain link when we could just post a direct link

Yeah, executable linking should be allowed.

There has never even been a case of someone linking to virus giving things on these forums. It'll just be a big nuisance rule that protects people from a threat that barely exists.

Maybe not a direct link to the file, but a page that hosts the files...Perhaps the link should be approved by a moderator first before it is posted?

that would take too much time x.x (for them to approve, and the time they have to take to approve it)

The wording is the worst part of them and leaves several rules highly up to interpretation and thus caused many arguments about how they were to be enforced. Angel's rules are superior because they are more specific.

Now I think the swear filter needs to be altered and I don't think it should apply to website links either.

I believe Spark wrote those rules up a month or two ago.

But yeah, the good thing is that most of them are not too broad.

So, let me get thi straight. We cannot post links to sites containing .exe programs; however we can attach .zip compressed files containing .exe programs on the forums? It makes no sence, and besides, if we make a link to a bad site, the moderator can delete the post(thread) and punish the user. But if the user downloads from the site without reading any disclaimer or such it is his or hers fault for doing so.

Sadly, if such things are not present people think they can get away with something that is usually a given yet not mentioned.

Unfortunately, most users don't know about common internet etiquette. They assume that because its more of an "unregulated" territory they are allowed to be as angsty as they can without any kind negative consequences.

I elaborated upon Kaimetsu's rule set to create the implemented new rules.

I did not like the ones Spark was working on. Theirs were more simplistic, more ambiguous, and more incoherent than even Konidias' set of rules - that is what prompted me to push for this set of rules to be added.
