Moderators and Rep

Should moderators be able to give out negative rep? I mean, a certain moderator is the #1 reason I'm in the red, having contributed over -20 points to my score. Just because a post of mine doesn't break the rules, but may throw some into question, this person gives me neg rep.
I'll probably get another whopping -10 (or more) points from this person for this post.
Anyone else think this is unfair, since moderators can remove rep, and therefore have a high rep, as well as high rep powers, even if they should have negrep because most of their actions are disliked by the community?
What are your thoughts on the matter of moderators abusing their high rep abilities?

There is no reason a moderator should give/take more rep than anyone else.

We all have to work to earn an influence over reputation, and they should too.

I don't really care much for the reputation system. All my negative rep points came from a certain someone who felt insulted by posts that weren't meant to insult.

Anyways, if moderators have powers to modify reputation, then it also seems fair if they are exempt from receiving/giving reputation.

In a perfect world, they'd have the same rep. abilities as a player. But, they're moderators and, despite what you might think, they were given their abilities for a good reason. I don't see the problem with it, personally. I've received 20 positive rep point from a moderator for making a logical statement in a sea of ranting teenagers. Then, I received (negative, yet) neutral rep from a player for posting my opinion on how to fix Era's economic troubles. Judging from that, moderators are more responsible with giving rep. than regular players.

Only reason I think they should be able to receive and not give is so their moderation could be rated, but having no rep taking or giving abilities would be good as well, as it prevents abuse and mods with really low rep.

Ya, you don't mind because you get positive rep from them. Many of us tend to not kiss their ass, and get on their bad sides regardless of not being rude and such. We just have different mindsets. I don't think I should lose 10 points from a mod just because they think I said something they don't agree with. Perhaps they are more responsible, but it would just be more fair if they were treated like every other member.

You're against mods abusing their power?

I think it would be great if they had the same rep influence as regular member, sure. But, I'm able to realize that they're at a higher rank than a regular member. They've earned their influence, even if you or I don't see it that way. It's an added bonus, and rarely are those ever fair for the person that doesn't get them (otherwise it wouldn't be a bonus).

Also, I'm not kissing anybody's ass. I know what it's like to be in Darlene's position, so I'm empathetic.I've been a Darlene on the Valikorlia forums (luckily, there's more than one on those forums, though ). A lot of the things that get thrown her way are unnecessary.

Why should the players judge how a moderator does their job? The moderation's job is to enforce the rules. If a moderator isn't doing their job right, Moony can remove them. If you have a problem with Moony you can take it to Unixmad.

Aren't moderators also players? I play, but I am also the moderator in one forum. Does that mean that I shouldn't be able to give reputation just because I enforce the rules? I should be allowed to give reputation regardless of whether or not you think I'm doing my job. Just because you don't like how a certain moderator does their job doesn't mean that you should be able to give them negative reputation and they can't return the favor. I don't think moderators reputation should give/remove as much reputation as it does.

I'm not sucking up, I'm just saying it from my perspective.

Its possible to alter the board settings so Mods and Admins have the same rep value has any other person.

They show their higher rank by having power over our posts, and infractions. They don't also need reputation power. The problem is though, reputation is something we all have access to, but moderators have stronger influence on... which they didn't earn. They were given it, because they earned it from Unix. That's the problem, we all 'work' to earn our reputation from the masses and they are given it from a single.

Also, Darlene has stated that she tries not to rep at all because of the way moderators rep. This shows that it's limiting the moderators in their 'normal' actions.

She's given me at least 2 neg reps. There may have been more.
Put it this way, I have -26 right now. A mod's base value is 10, so that would contribute most of my negative rep to her.

I'm fine with moderators being able to adjust rep for anyone. Most of the time they shouldn't be concerned about it anyway. If you're really so opposed to it, have fun trying to get back to your old forum status when the forums inevitably bug out and you lose all your reputation.

Very true. The fact that only 3 people have 2 bars(excluding Stefan, who cheated, which means perhaps only one person would really have 2 bars if Stefan hadn't of changed the value), shows something is really wrong.

This has already been discussed, and I already said that I told unix I would rather have the same rep power as everyone else.
I am a member of Graal, and will use the same priviledges that everyone else does. Hopefully Stefan or unix will change it, dunno

It also takes 1,000 rep points (according to this post), to get an extra rep power.

I think that may be wrong... though there are different variables which determine rep power that I don't feel like dissecting so I dunno. I do know I get 1-4 points from the average rep, and Crono's result in 9. I've never broken it down to posts and rep and such though.

I have gotten well over 20,000 negative rep points because of moderators who only did it because, in their words, I'm "fat". Whatever that means. Oh well, there's just no helping it I guess! Good thing that didn't happen here!

So would all rep points that mods handed out with these uber rep powers be taken back?
