Cliff tutorial

I have searched the forums for cliff tutorials, and have found a couple of good starter ones, but I have to say the basic tiling is boring.
I have seen some really nice cliff tiling like from Ducati, and Wan, and others on various playerworlds (I don't know who made the levels, so I can't give credit). I cannot figure out which tiles to put together to create these nice, fancy cliffs.

I have a bunch of levels that Ducati, and others have made on my computer, that I could easily copy and paste from, but I do not want to do that as it doesn't help me learn. I want to be able to make them myself by finding the correct way to put the tiles together.

I guess what I am asking is if someone can make a tutorial on how to make less boring cliffing, both water edged, and dirt/grass edged.

Basically the way I do it is that I don't let it repeat the same direction twice (generally when I'm not feeling lazy of course). For normal cliffs I use the default size.

For example I did this one for Rufus on Classic.

I hear a lot of people saying "WEL CRONO I KANT FIND THE TILES HOW DO U DO THAT!!!". Back in 2004 Wan basically "taught" me how to cliff by showing me that a lot of the basic cliff material is in the pre-defined tiles. Look for "platform" stuff and you'll pretty much have everything you need for normal cliffs.

See, that is the kind of cliffing I like. I like a lot of curves, and less straight. Also, I love the "stacking" style.

Stacking is easier than it looks.

Hope this kind of explains it.

Nice, but I see 2 things.

1) You're using a custom pre-defined tileset for cliffs....guessing that's the one Wan released a while back.

2) You're actually doing it a little wrong. The first box (attachment) is what you're doing, the second one is how it should be (or nicer in my opinion).

1) I made that myself. Whats wrong with using one? O.o

2) Guess you are right about that...hmm. I might fix that in my future cliffing.

I was talking to Wan the other day about cliffing, and he made a thread you'd have to search for. It contained levels that just had the parts of cliffs, like the turns and such, all seperated. Also contained predefined objects. Very useful, all though I didn't end up using it because the way he did them I personally didn't think looked right... even though it probably was.

Spark910 has a spectacular aura about
I used to go onto a server and get the bits I wanted and copy and paste, as they usually had all the tiles, so it saved me making them.

I don't understand why people would fear stolen levels.

A level is on Unholy Nation before it's on Playerworld1337, they know. It's no big deal, honestly, because they can take it away as easy as it was uploaded.

It was done a lot. It was almost daily people were screaming about stolen levels. Big hassle.

That's probably because theft went on, and quite honestly still goes on, on a daily basis. The difference these days is that the majority of the population is more vocal regarding people being unoriginal. While it's all becomming rather "emo," it is in some indirect ways doing the globals and mods a favor. The reduction in complaints regarding graphical/level theft has been one of them, so, thanks to all of you out there with a big mouth.
