LAT Challenges?

I noticed

1) The amount of activity in our brother's (the GATs) forums
2) The competition they have

So what about us LATs? Let's have some competitions, some flamewars, etc. Come on now. I might hold something, not sure. Maybe someone more organized should host a competition? No prize needed really.

Your work on Era should be so time consuming, that you shouldn't have time for competitions, sleep, or even a life.

I don't know about flamewars, all that USUK OMG YOU STOLE THOSE LEVELS!!!@ would get kind of irritating, but competitions and collaborations would definitely be fun.

Perhaps each week or few weeks there can be a competition to utilize a different leveling style or aspect of the tileset, or even a completely different tileset.

Level Collabs hurt my eyes. It would have to be a VIP collab lol.

Good point. Perhaps some sort of strict collab where each submitted level is reviewed before it is actually added to make sure it fits the style. Or as you said a VIP collab where only certain people can contribute, although that kind of defeats the purpose of a collaboration. If done right, though, a level collaboration could be pretty fun if say, a bunch of LATs got together to make a small island. One could be assigned the forest, one some mountains, another could do the coastline, and a few could make some villages and stuff.

The easiest way to have a contest would be to give a specific scene for people to design, with at least 3 things the level must have ex. A lake house with a balcony in the forest.

I dislike collabs for one simple reason; people of... sub par talent decide to enter, and ruin (a strong word, but fitting) a potentially good looking level. Maybe we should have another contest like the ones from awhile ago:
  • Make a level with a prerequisite of usable tile types (must use snow tiles, lava tiles, and grass tiles in a level for example).
  • Post a level half tiled, and the contestants need to complete the level (WITHOUT REMOVAL OF PREEXISTING TILES).

I think it'd be awesome to do something along the lines of a small over-world collab. Each person in the collab does a 20-something level town.

I think it could make for a pretty OW.

LOL Sorry only Delteria does extreme amounts of levels like that. Wow...I dont think any 2d game would ever have a town that big.

Not possible, a single level can only hold what? 256 tiles? The pics1 contains 4096 tiles? I might be wrong in my math.

I'm not sure how big pics1 is, but a level can hold 3600 tiles.

I'm not sure why, but I multiplied the levels 32x32, ahaha.

A level is 64x64 tiles (or 1024x1024 pixels) which would equal 4096. Pics1 is 2048x512 pixels (or 128x32 tiles). I guess it is possible to fit all the tiles, if you used one of every tile.

Thats true, you'd probably be able to make a village or something in under 10 levels, but for a town you need more. Like Infernix said the gmap can really throw you off.

I believe it depends on the tileset you're using; it's easier to make a 20+ level town on Valikorlia's tileset than on the default. I'd love for someone to create a 20+ level town using the default - I think it's way too big for a town, my towns are no bigger than 5 level's...

I used to work on Versus, and quite a few of them were more than 5 levels.

I'm going to have to agree with Wan on this one. 20 levels for a town is rediciously large unless you're trying to spread the buildings apart so much as to only have two per level. I think a decent city could be made in 10 levels or less.

I'll use Graal City on Classic for example, if you look at the size, it is roughly 8-10 levels in total, and all the necessary 'townish' levels are there. There is no need for a 20 level town, unless you're trying to squeeze in a few extra player houses.

Nothing wrong with a 20 level town though. I mean look at Delteria's main town, it's the best i've seen on Graal. Of course until they started editing it and messing **** up.
