Hosted would get trials and stuff, while Classic would get more pay players. It would make it better than the current system. The general consensus is that Hosted playerworlds are of less quality than Classic, so why do we pay more to play on less? It seems to be a polarization of the ideal pay scheme. Here's the thinking behind my idea:
50 trial players join Graal. They go and see HostedX, a playerworld on the Hosted tab. They play there alot, and have a good time. Eventually, HostedX becomes of such a quality that the server moves to Classic. People think, "well gee, we've put alot of time into that server, and we've established a community, so I guess if we want to play it we should go pay for it". It would encourage:
a) New players to join, since many hosted tab playerworlds would stay there for a couple months or so. This would let them have a very good introductory period to Graal.
b) People to follow servers to Classic tab. Right now, UN is the only playerworld that makes sense for a trial to play on because the quests are streamlined so that playability is achievable in a minimum time frame. All those complex systems found on other playerworlds take a long time to master. In about 45 minutes, a trial player could conceivably get enough equipment on UN to participate in events, and so on. The distribution of community in the Classic tab would be much more fair if trials were kept out.
c) Hosted tab playerworlds would have a much more active community, giving staff an incentive to work harder and produce good content.
In addition, I believe that there should be, in these cases, a 100% restriction on trial accounts for Classic tab, with a few exceptions: these exceptions would be a couple of hour long sessions where trials could enter the Classic playerworlds. Perhaps on Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, the trials get one full hour of access, with full VIP/Gold features enabled. On Sunday, they are restricted to trial features on Classic servers. From Monday to Friday, they can only connect to Hosted playerworlds. The hour would be from, say, 5PM to 6PM EST, or some arbitrary time like that. Giving each trial account a limit would just encourage people to make many trial accounts, so it would have to be a scheduled time.
NOTE: Hosted playerworlds
would have a deadline of three months before they would have to start paying a 50% rate, and the PWA would regularly check them out and scrutinize their progress. If there are no signs of progress, then the PW would be forced back into development status.
Anyway, that's my business sketch in a bit more detail. But as I said, I'm insane.
