PM History

Ok, I'm tired of people cursing and acting disrespectful to others, and then when they are reported to a staff member of a certain server, that person tries to lie there way out and say that they didn't say anything, and that the history was edited.

I'm proposing that PM logs on servers be saved to a folder on RC, that way, when someone reports a player about a certain PM, the staff can view this folder, view the PM reported, and act upon it.

Example:

Bob messages Billy with fowl comments and racial remarks on <servernamehere>. Billy reports Bobs PM to a GP on <servernamehere>, and then the GP messages Bob about the PM. Bob then says that he never PM'd that to Billy, and that Billy is editing history. The GP is then confused on who to trust, and then just warns Bob, but doesn't do anything else, since it's Bob's word versus Billy's.

Now, if PM's were saved to a folder, which can be accessed via RC, then the GP would just view the folder, view the file where Bob messaged Billy, and then the GP will see that Bob did in fact PM billy with fowl comments and racial remarks, and thus, he can act on it.

A) That is an over-invasion of peoples privacy.
B) Do you have any idea how huge the folder would become on a server like Unholy Nation after just a few weeks?

Uhh already possible. Just edit the swear filter Stefan installed to scan PMs for words that you add to the Wordfilter/rules.txt and it will either:
(1. Log the account,time, and word(s) used
(2. Block the entire PM from being sent if a certain word(s) is/are used
(3. Warn the person using the certain word(s).

All the above depends on which rules you set for each word added to the check list.

Then check Swearfilter/logs.txt and boom! A nice huge log for you to look through until you go blind.

Yes, after uploading a relatively tame version of the swear filter now used on Era, the log.txt file was over a megabyte in about an hour..

Or you can script your own PM and have a Report PM button on the PM window. Easily done.

Logging every PM would be insane. You'd get a lot more than "fowl" comments, and most players don't want people like you perusing their private messages.

ahaha chicken comments. But like it was already said, you can do it with an NPC using the swear filter, and savelog.

If they had a report function, couldn't it be abused, as in reporting every PM?

but its my business and you could always have a staff member that looks through them for fun if its volentary meaning you can report it manually insted of it automaticaly going to the folder thats one thing but if its automatic its not fair to the players having there business at the hands of the staff.

When were you elected to a position to speak for all of us? Never, that's right. What's the point of drawing a conclusion (it being you can script it yourself) so that you can decide that it's something stefan can do? The possibilities should be left to stefan, not decided by you, you don't run the technical side of graal, and I doubt you'd be able to.

god damnit you people are..oh wait if i say that i'd get banned for offensive opinions.

suck it up and stop crying, if someone is dis-respecting someone though pm just screenshot their history. if you lose the person and never see him again then TOO BAD.

Hmmm forwarding PMs to other people would not be hard to add, but that wouldn't be really more trustable than sending the PM history.
For actually sending the original content of the PM to the staff it would need to keep a copy of the last PM and then forward it to the staff if the user enters some special command or clicks on a button on the PM window. One problem might be that people would try to spam staff with that?

Doing so would obviously be a punishable offense.

Also, it would be possible to limit the use of the report button to once every x minutes, to aviod such things.

I would suggest that you allow only one report per player at any given time, and let the staff browse them via some simple list (and remove them when they're finished). The player can delete his report or append new PMs if he wishes.

This way it's more or less impossible to spam the staff. They can glance at a report and quickly see if it's genuine. If people persist in abusing the system, they can have their report rights suspended.

That's exactly what i was thinking. The report button would also prevent the change of history, which fixes the problem of players changing the history/lying when the history is sent to staff.

I will give you a situation, and you say if reporting is alright in it:

If someone pms a kid an account so he can use it for a day, the other kid is a person who likes to piss people off. He reports the pm, now the account is lieing around in a txt folder. Now, the person who has access to the folder now uses the account, finds out it has rc, logs on, asks for ip changed, destroys a server using a proxy. Now what? A server was destroyed because a kid want's to mess around.

1) You shouldn't be PMing your account details to stupid children anyway.
2) You really shouldn't be PMing your account details to stupid children if you happen to have administrative powers.
3) If the stupid child has been PMed the account details, HE CAN ALREADY GIVE THEM TO WHOMEVER HE PLEASES WITHOUT REPORTING THE PM.

Think

Answer to 1: What if it is the admin account, because he no longer has access to private pws?
Answer to 2: Maybe his account just expired, and he needed an account to use?
Answer to 3:
Yes, he can. But he knows he will get in risk of losing his own account as theirs a 90.00% chance.

1) He will be banned.
2) The other kid will find out.
3) Staff will tell the kid to change his pass.

And:
I am pretty sure he will not get in trouble because the person that gets the log with the account will, and i am pretty sure, delete the log and keep it for himself.

Staff, in which this would mainly be the "GP"s job to work with, should be trusted to processing such data.

Account Sharing is illegal anyhow.

The Admin-Playerworld## account is given to the person who purchased the playerworld, which in some cases may be a GP, LAT Admin ect.

Players with a full level 4 RC can access the account options and can change the Admin-Playerworld## account to their liking.
