Graal Database Site

Hey everyone!

For some time now, ive been working on a big Graal database. In it, youll be able to find all items, weapons, armour, monsters and other info, along with the current player price.

Ive spend quite some time in it, and i feel like i can upload it now.
You can find it on www.mmorpglibrary.net

However, much needs to be done. There is still a lot more items to add, and i want the info to be as accurate as possible, and i cant do that on my own. If youre browsing the database and see an item is missing, or its info is incorrect, please contact me at [email protected] or send me a PM (Forum or ingame)

Also, please let me know what you think. Are you missing something? What info do you want to see when youre looking for an item? Let me know and ill do my best!

Thanks a lot!
Dash

Design could use some work, but it is good besides that. Nice work. Lots of content.

Good thinking, especially since if you just decided to release it, a decent layout would be helpful.

Pagination, memcached, better queries, less joins, faster server, lighttpd.

Make it suck less.

Edit: I should probably make it clear it is a nice site, and I don't hate you as a person. :P

memcached and lighttpd will be impossible to implement unless you have shell access (and linux experience).

However the queries should be able to be improved.

Edit: Post 100. =D

1. I realized that you more or less got rid of "View All", so the pagination is already taken care of by alphabet.

2. Make sure the ids are the primary key of the table.

3. If you REALLY wanted to, you could have another column which you would set to the first letter of the weapon title and index it for way way faster lookups by letter, but it's not really necessary with your amount of data, and introduces a little hassle if you want to update the title.

Yeah ive got it originally indexed like this, but i got a lot of complaints that people didnt want to click the category AND click a letter after that...

1. So i changed it the way it was now... I didnt really liked it either. I guess this will be the solution everyone may like :S :P

2. Every item has its own id, set as primary key and auto_increment

And the last one, will this result faster lookup? Its set like this right now:
WHERE `name` LIKE '%".$id."'

I guess that would get my result just as fast?

Anyway, thanks a lot

Assuming $id is A-Z, wouldn't that get anything that ENDS with A-Z?
Bit confusing unless you specify what is in the name column and what the $id variable is.

What I was suggesting was something like this (a few example rows):

NPC Code:

id, category, letter, name
1, 1, A, Adventurers Mantle
2, 1, A, Amulet
3, 1, C, Chainmail
4, 1, R, Red Belt of Damage
5, 2, F, Ferry - Dustari to Main

etc etc.

id would be the primary key, and (category, letter) would be an index.

Then you could select like this

PHP Code:
SELECT FROM `itemsWHERE `category` = '1' AND `letter` = 'A'
Which would in my example get all the items in 'Kingdoms - Armour' that start with an 'A'.

But like I said, it would require you to update the letter column if you ever update the name of the item.

Actually, the best way to do it is to use the 'LIKE' comparison to the `name` field.
Something like:
SELECT * WHERE `name` LIKE 'A%'; <-- should return all rows that start with 'A'.

Great job on your website so far man. I've been using it myself, as well as inputting a few Stats to help out. Keep up the great work! I definitely have been recommending it .

No. Why do you ask?

And AbsoluteMonkey, no it's not. That does no indexing and therefore is slow.
Both ways work, but if you want to scale better in terms of CPU usage you would need to index things (like in my example).

Possibly a future intention to add more games, at which point we could no longer link to it and then it'd not be as useful.

Well actually, this is a possible future intention.

But please tell me why this wouldnt be as usefull?

This will only happen after Graal is 'done'.

I don't thiiiiiiink so.. We can link to GameFAQs and other game sites in regards to Graal content and they include other games, do they not?
