Account info transfer

Okay, here's an idea.
I dislike my account name, and I'd like to change it.
But that would mean getting a new account, transfering ownership of my server, items, rights, etc to this new account.
Why not just allow account name changes?
Not as easy as setnick, but you'd have to send in an email request, you'd be notified, confirm, etc. And it would also have to update rights, ban info, etc.
Wouldn't that be easier?

Only if scripters get a system to refer to an account name that will still be valid after you change it.

Maybe a dual ID thingy, you can run on both account names, but only one is displayed.

By tradition account names are just that, the name of your account and cannot be changed. >:[ it would be stupid if it was changeable, no other game that I know of does this.

What is really dumb is all these people that still use Blahblah_P2P crap

I remember this from back in the day where people wanted to share accounts and they didnt want people to have access to their classic account.

So everyone you see with a %_P2P account probably wanted to account share

Lies. Actually, I only put P2P in mine because *Vulcan wouldn't register correctly. Now that I have the account I can't get the information transfered because there is simply too much.

To make a system to do this would be complicated. It would require transfering your forum account, account time, guilds, etc. That is probably the main reason Graal doesn't do these requests...not because they want you to go and make a new account but because the systems are not made so you can just change one thing and the name is changed. You have to change multiple things.

Actually I don't think it would be extremely hard.

NPC Code:
UPDATE accounts SET accountname='newaccount' WHERE accountname='oldaccount'

of course you would have to run that for every table in the database, which probably isn't the funnest thing in the world.

That would probably break all playerworld-local account data, guilds, playerworld ownership, the admin control panel, the forum accounts, NPC scripts that store account names for whatever reason, ...

People could be given a unique ID consisting out of 8 digits. The digit would be linked to an account name or something in that order.

Anyhow doing this would be troublesome. Would also require servers to update some of their scripts/systems.

Above all I don't see why anyone would want to change their accountname. Is it really that important? (on the other hand I could see that if you would have an idiotic account name.. no wait! thats your own damn fault!)

I wouldnt agree with this because of people changing their accounts to familer names to try to gain popularity through them.

However it would be a quick fix, instead of doing player.account maybe they could try doing if (player.aid == "3424234") where the aid is the accounts unique account ID.

Dunno, like i said I dont support it.

Because they've done something against the law and want to hide from it? That is one of the reasons I think this should not become a reality. If you have done something wrong, and have a bad reputation with that name, you should not be allowed to just change your name and 'start over.'

That is why you go through the legal process of changing your name?

I'm sure that's one of the reasons people on Graal would want to change their account name.

Yes, but that's not as easy as having some built-in system to change your account name with the click of a button.

Yeah, and if you buy a new account, bans wont go to the new account, but this way, you'll be able to use the same email, and all bans, and other info will transfer over as well. It's not a way to aviod bans and jailings, just to change your name (lets say it's long, or has mispellings or doesn't match your character, etc, etc). It would allow people to continually have just one account, so there's less non VIP/Gold P2Ps going around (being shared, normally). This would make graal more money in the long run. W00T! (That's what it all comes down to )

I am talking about the people who everyone knows are up to know good, but staff has not caught them in the act. You cannot evade a ban that has not been issued.

How would it make more money? If anything it would allow people to share accounts even easier. Just log in on the website, change the account name to the player's name, and share that account without anyone knowing about it. I'm pretty sure making people buy another account if they want a new name would make more money. If that's what it all comes down to, then your plan is flawed.

It would simply be a name change, there's no extra sharing you could do, if anything, it would allow players to stop sharing easier

Just get a new account. Loosing items/hours etc is the price you have to pay for wanting it really.

It's possible to have the attributes transferred. The chances of this happening are slim though!

Of course, contact Ibonic, he could do it, I assume.

If not, whine.

How would it 'allow players to stop sharing easier'? One would think with the ability to change your account name, players would change it to reflect who was playing on the account at that time.

How could they? Unless you give each account a certain ID Number or something. But then people will complain because they don't like their ID Number!

If you want to stop sharing, get a new acct name, change the pass, etc It's like you were never there, at least to the other person using your account. Of course, you could just change the pass, but this would also make sure you're not in their buddy list, so they can't pest you
Anyway, doesn't it cost less to renew than to buy a new account? Instead of pesting them to transfer everything to a new account, why not just allow me to transfer it. Maybe add a small fee, whatever, just to make sure Graal gets something out of it too, other than a happier user .

So you're pretty much saying that if you can trick someone into letting you share the account with them, you can easily steal it and claim it as your own?

Only if you have their password, email, and send an email to global staff requesting an account name change.

It would be a lot easier than transfering all your info to a new account. (And cheaper)
An it'd be nice in the forums too

But now you are turning it away from a tool on the website, to something that requires human-moderation, which is what it is like right now.

Currently I would have to buy a new account, then have them transfer the info over, with this, I would have the option to change the name when I renew.

You can already request your account name to be changed (Sam from Graal Kingdoms got his changed, unless he was lying in that other thread.) Although it's very unlikely that they will do it.

We don't rename accounts, it's too much work, and also makes it impossible to track subscription.
