Ship Ownership - Please Help

There is the idea of allowing ownership of ships, probably using some key system. Question is where we allow people to park their ships - only allow that on (your own) kingdom islands? What should happen with ships that are parked on the wrong place or blocking paths or shipyards ?

Several public harbors should be added, with small fees or no fees.

The ships parked on other places than harbors will slowly brake/die then.

You could add one on that island next to hotaru. Or one near San on that penninsula. You could put one up by Zehn to promote sailing to Zormite/Forest islands as well.

I was thinking the same thing. I forsee a problem with that. If you make it so they are unsinkable (because they house people/items), then people will start using them as regular boats for attacks and such because they can't be destroyed. Yet, if you make them destroyable, then people will lose a lot of their stuff because they live in a boat house. Maybe permit them only to kingdom islands where they can't be destroyed, yet can't leave those waters? That way, you can't use them for attacks or whatnot, and you don't have to worry about them being destroyed. Just as well, I wouldn't put any cannon's on them.

Make a Housemode and a Battlemode.

A Ship in Housemode can swim and held items but cant fire cannons, but not destroyed
In warmode they can fire cannons and be destroyed

It cant be switched you are setting it the first time you step on ship

I also suggest trimming down parts of the main island, since most of it is empty anyway. Make it more ship friendly.

You should also limit it to one or two ships per person. The ship parking places you'd have to put some thought into, because it will be very messy with people leaving their ships inside all over the place. Perhaps an npc "valet" can bring your ship in and out of the parking area to keep things orderly. Also with this you can introduce faster but weaker ships, heavier but more powerful ships, and keep the normal ones too.

And yes, there is currently not enough ocean space. That idea someone had about adding ocean space in between kingdom islands sounds good to me. However, no ocean space from Main to a kingdom, for lazy people.

Perhaps make it while the ships are parked neatly they are invincible but while moving around or not parked correctly they are destroyable, i personally think it would be sad to see invincible ships roaming around even if they couldnt be destroyed whatever would the pirates do for fun?

Making invincible ships could cause problems like using them to block places, and you wouldn't be able to destroy them. Also, in battles or wars, you could use them for transportation. Invincible transportation. Eww

Hmmm the harbour idea is good but we need to limit parking near the main island, otherwise people will use them as moveable houses and park them as close as possible to Bomboria or so. I mean if you are parking a ship in a harbour on the main map then it should cost good money and should only be allowed for limited time. If you want to park it for long time (e.g. on vacations) then better park them somewhere near your kingdom island.

Another idea could be to only allow parking ships when your kingdom owns the (small) island, and we do regulary events for the ownership of those islands ?

Why not just cut the idea of harbours on main - unless for regular ships - and only have houseable ships allowed on kingdom waters. The kingdom you are in is the kingdom you are allowed to build your ship on. You could have them as invincible there, without worry of having them used cheaply in battle.

For your harbour on main idea, I would say the valet way would be the best idea. And you could have it so that people could go in and see their boats, just not move them. As well, the only person who can retrieve the boat is the person who put it in.

maybe you can make a harbour like a house? it is built on waters edge.
ships can sail into the doors.
its basically like a house but replaced with water instead of floor

Well there are already shipyards, but with many people having ships they would be full all the time and just messy.
The only thing I could imagine would be to have some harbours on the main island with docks but they cost good money and only protect your ship for a few hours, and you can also park your ship freely on your kingdom map, to destroy your ship the king would need to remove you from the kingdom then.

If it costs good money for only a few hours, then nobody would pay. Besides, someone else could then come in and steal it. I think the "valet" parking for ships in a public harbour is your best idea. Once the harbour is full, it won't accept any more ships. Or, just set it so that one player can only put a maximum of some amount of ships, and can not put more in. Then, he/she can pull them out whenever they wish, but only them. You could make it so there is no real "harbour", but some script that keeps track of how many boats you put in, etc.

The idea of a house boat sounds nice, people who just joined a certain kingdom would have a temporary place to live and store their belongings while they get a real house prepared.

Just a suggestion but perhaps you can add a new type of shop? This would allow a house boat permit for new members to a kingdom that gives them a small boat to store items in for one full week, this should be more than enough time to get a new house up, and the time limit could be the motivation to MAKE the house in a week or you lose the boat, and anything you were dumb enough to leave in it. (the kingdom leader or proper athority would have to approve the boat permit first, just like house flags)

I actually like the idea of being able to use the boats as mobile houses. Houses take a very long time to build and most people have to walk very long distances to go and grab their stuff. It's also a good way for someone to go and store items if they have too many without having to walk all the way back to whatever kingdom they are in with 1.2 speed :-/

1. Don't make it to where normal ships can be owned by only one person it's hard enough to have to wait for the ferries when in a rush.

2. Kingdom boats should only be usable by members of that kingdom.

3. Boats should only be parkable along shorelines or else on docks. There's a bug that gets ships stuck if you run them into docks just right, and it's really annoying. If that gets fixed, there will be more of a use for docks, so the number of them on all islands could be increased.

Those are the basics of what should be changed.

Docks should be "hard" as of right now you can crash right through them

If they can be taken out of the public harbours by other people, then what's the point of paying money to put one in? People can just wait until someone pays to put one in, and then steal it. It would defeat the whole purpose of having public harbours.

Do you even know what is necessary for a 'harbor' to be in place? And why would you pay to build a ship? It already takes 50 or so boards to make one.

No, I don't know what is necessary. But your not paying to build a ship. Your paying to put your boat into the harbour. Besides, I don't fully support the idea of a public harbour. I think there would be many flaws, but I'm just trying to think of ways it would work.

I would like to see ships lockable, that is a really great request. How about this:

Any ship parked in Main waters should be able to be destroyed, whether locked or not. If a kingdom ship is parked on it's own island (i.e. black sail on Pirates, or red sail on Samurai) then they should be invincible. However, this should be limited to parked boats touching a dock or shore, so abandoned boats out in the water can be sunk. Any boat moving at any time should be fair game.

Alan

As i said it was just a suggestion, but i see what you mean, i can suppose someone NOT in a kingdom may want a place to live/store the valuables they find, perhaps the rent a dock thing could be a nice idea, since if you needed to be in a kingdom to have a protected ship it would limit new players to how long their moble home would last (someone may be just mean and sink it because it's not under kingdom safety?)

So making some form of boat parking garage that keeps track of individual players boats and how many they have in it already? You wouldn't actally go inside and see rows and rows of boats lined up, rather, when you pay, the boat vanishes and is "stored" in a parking area, you get a numbered ticket (like in the raffle house) and can return anytime with the ticket and your boat reappears, this also isn't a foolproof idea though, people get ideas to store valuables inside a boat and you may just get an empty boat back, so try to make a house since boat houses can be an issure and render normal houses useless.

Stefan I have a question for you, are you thinking about putting House Mode / Battle Mode into ships? House mode we could store items on our boat and down in the bottom of the ship (Cargo hold) without them getting stolen or boat hijacked we could also park it etc... Battle Mode is for Battling other ships/RPING. Right now I don't even build a boat as its pointless as it will just get stolen and I can't keep it for that long as I have other stuff to do...

I think the parked boat and non-moving invincible, moving destroyable idea would get out of hand. Why not just set up some place - maybe another small island, where people not in kingdoms AND in kingdoms can build "house" boats and leave them in that area. These boats will not be able to leave that water. If they do, they are sinkable. If not, they are invincible.

This way, you aren't using invincible "house" boats to block enemies in battles or such stupid things as blocking paths so people can't move.

----
For the harbour idea. Yes, the ticket idea I believe is the way to go - like I said earlier. You can possibly choose to pay for how long you want to keep your boat in, and depending on how long is whatever the price. You get a ticket saying you put a boat there, maximum 2-3 tickets. When you want to pull it out of the harbour, you can. If you leave it in the harbour longer than the specified time, maybe it is destroyed or is put outside the harbour for everyone else to use? That way, you could have different people getting boats other than the people who put them in there, without other random people just walking into the harbour and taking out boats that aren't theirs (as in, the tickets can be tradeable/droppable).

I don't like the idea of having to pay in advance to keep your ship in a harbor for a specified amount of time, because you never know how long you will be away. It would be best to pay for the amount of time your ship has been harbored when you try to take it out. You know, like modern day parking garages. Your ship stays in the harbor until you pay the sum in full.

Hmm about houseboats: perhaps they could be made sinkable, and when sunk they can be rebuilt with a certain amount of boards. The sunk ship remains in the water as a wreck. Other things can move over it so it doesn't get in the way. Hmm I dunno just throwing some ideas out there...I don't really like this one myself lol...
