When does detailing become too much?

I think Tom is going overboard with his GFX details.
He thinks regular squares and the such are boring.

Do you think his GFX have too much detail, or do you think they look good with the extra detail?

I think they look good, quite honestly. I'd rather see attention paid to refining an image rather than just making it and leaving it as a rough copy.

I like the second, but I personally think the large gold head thingie at the bottom center is too much. If that were smaller/not there at all I think it would look better. So I'm gonna middle of the fence between Yen and Tom here.

Varandel (Bravo Debug)

The problem I have with it is that I have to push the text further over, to avoid hitting the corner things.
This leaves a big blank spot on the sides .
On the bottom, we have a huge blank space to either side of the mask.

Detailing usually shows that you put a lot of thought into the work you do. The same which applies to images applies to maps as well.

Blookat always did really intricate work.
Donald does really detailed work.

I like their work.

I like the one with the head... but the head is too big and a sore thumb, a UI should be non-distracting so you can easily view its content.

Just because something has more detail and work put into it doesn't mean it's better. Ever heard of overworking an image? (Donald.) I prefer the first one myself. It's simple, effectice, and has some class to it. The second one has the idea of some nice embroidery for it, but it isn't done well in my honest opinion.

Cheers.

I disagree. While I agree with the fact that things CAN be overdetailed, the second one is far better than the first.

The face at as it stands appears to just be stuck in the middle, but i had'nt added the wings at that point, the wings gave it a feel of being a whole object. And that was an unfinished image which Yen wanted to see what players liked better
