Players Database

Scamming seems to have been declared as legal by the authorities. But of course, most players are not happy with that.
Also, people often break the rule of being nice and respect each other. People annoy and spam and steal kills, or even kill other players(!).

Thus I suggest the creation of a database holding information about the trustworthiness and general niceness of all the people here.
Such a database would be a kinda centralized institution serving as a publically accessible archive where everybody can file complaints against or honor each other.
Before dealing with a certain person, one could check the database and thus get an idea of the other person.
Before a trade, you could check someone's record, wether (s)he scammed other people repeatly. Before adding someone to a kingdom, you could check how well the person works in groups, or the RPing skills of them. Think of the possibilities!
If many people used this database, the amount of unnice behaviour would perhaps drop, as people would not get as much advantage out of it anymore.

This is not a suggestion to the Graalonline staff, but a suggestion for an independent playerrun institution.

What you are describing here is a personality profile database to see if the person is trustworthy or not.

Yes Tyhm had the idea of making a ranking sytem. It could be similar to the forums thing, where you say if someone is good (1) or bad (5) or so. It needs some protection against gangs making someone down, and comments would be nice.
I don't know if its needs something technically, normally the kingdoms should handle that, giving scammers bad reputition, while other kingdoms might support scamming rich people etc.
I am not sure if its really needed for 'scamming' though, more for general game play (someone 'steals' monsters etc.). For preventing scamming the players should use the secure trading methods, and report if something is not working probably.

I thought of something more elaborated than just one to five
I think there should be several categories such as "Honesty/Trustworthy" for trades or "Roleplaying" for kingdoms, and people can submit reports for each category, giving a score.

Since reports involve a little more than just a number, it will be pretty obvious if someone just gives ratings to make other people look less trustworthy. Some moderation would perhaps be in order, too.

I think the thing that lacks is a centralized thing that keeps track of everything. If you find someone bad, you might want to report him to a lot of other people, which is far less easy than just a database which everybody checks.

First, I agree that is it for general gameplay, but scamming seems to be an important category judging others.
Also, as you have probably noticed, your scam prevention methods do not work too well. And this database could be a way to finally reduce scamming as scammers would be widely known and ignored

great idea! it would be very cool to be able to "rate" other players in-game, that way you can know a little better before you take any risks.

I don't think you're nearly as bad as some people.

As for the player database, I think it would be nice to also have some type of in game forum where people can post what they are selling or what they are looking for. This player database thing could also be an ingame forum type thing.

In the end though, it'd mostly be based on popularity, would it not? There's no one way to make something like this completely un-biased.

The bad thing about it is that, lies can be made about someone who didn't really scam. I mean the idea is good but need to come around it so that you cannot mis-lead the system.

The thing could be moderated to respond to pretty obviously biased stuff. Also, if there is enough bias against someone, that probably has a reason otherwise, the amount of honest people will hopefully prevent this.

I think an auctioning platform such as www.[initials of some famous MMORPG]-trade.net would also be fun

The best way to stop troublemakers from giving everybody bad ratings is to make the weight of your votes dependent on your overall rating. If Joe Idiot has a rating of 0.1 then his ratings would have virtually no impact on those of anybody else.

Denori, you would probably have a negative rating.

I tried to make a thread about scammers awhile back, but no one submitted any.

You might as well put me in people of trustworthiness. I have a good reputation of being a kind and respectful person throughout all kingdoms, not to mention its what I have to do since its in my role as a Paladin for life.

Maybe make it possible to add comments to the ratings, and stash them in the user profile or with F2. Comment max like 45 chars, so you can type stuff like "Newbie Helper" "Good RPer" "PKer" etc.

I would be in the nice people section o.o I help newbies (today i helped one level from lvl.1 to 7, and gave him con+1 and speed+2 rings ) and i RP.

i also support this idea and i think the only objections will be from those who have bad reputations. I For one have been scammed by people simply because i didnt know much about them.

GOOD vs. BAD

Wow, When I first read your idea I thought it was awesome!!! And your so right. The behavior of some players has been worse then "horrible". It's not just about, simple "scamming" like i tricked you into giving me your stuff. It's worse then that, because along with the scamming comes the name calling, verbal harrassment, sometimes sexual harrassment (in the most degrading ways) that I rarely ever see or hear in real life! It gets so bad that good players find themseves having to leave the game because it gets "too nasty" and hurtful. Then I thought maybe the problem is that these types of players are getting "TO MUCH ATTENTION" for this type of behavior which is probably THEIR GOAL! It's almost as if they "trive" on the attention they get for being "HORRIBLE" to others. What doesn't get much attention are the players who work really hard to maintain a "good" reputation in the game, support other players, and refuse to let the bad behavior of others effect their ability to be kind, honest etc. Maybe there should be a database that only recognizes the "GOOD" players, the ones that can be trusted, the ones who go out of their way to support newer players! The ones who know how to respect eachother. Maybe if this kind of behavior was shown to get more attention, then maybe there would be more reason to be less "obnoxious". If you look throughout this whole forum, you will read lots of post by frustrated players who've been attacked in someway or another. You will rarely find post honoring players who've been role models of good behavior.

Well it's just a thought. Thank you though for acknowledging the problem as being just that... A problem!!!

You could make in in-game filing system where you could vote for people just like you can on the forums and you could check someones vote status by right clicking on them and you could also have a complaints text file where someone could file a complaint a minimum of once per day by saying /complaint "blah blah and then he blahed me and stole my blah blah" .
Who all had voted for the player could be stored on the player in a client string thus clientr.votedfor Stefan,Unixmad,Loriel,TB3
and just to make sure all the votes arent same make a clientr.voterating 5,5,8,10; in the same order as the votes are placed in. Im guessing this may be a possibility?

I don't think Scamming should be against the rules really, If you are scammed IRL noone really gives a crap even nowadays, let-alone 'medevil times' Either way anyone dumb enough to be scammed deserves to be scammed for not asking other people if they are being scammed! (That was a lot of scamming right there!)

I don't scam, I don't get scammed and I don't support scamming, I just don't see a problem with it really.

Killstealing (KSing) however I dislike, and It can get to become quite a problem when your killing a lord (Which at level 8 is hard...) and some Annoying Sorcerer comes up and casts icestorm and takes the kill.... :grrr:

Anyway thats my 2 cents'

You could have it, so when every good trade is completed, the players trade "AP" goes up several points.

That could be abused though..

Depends. If you were scammed in a little village, the scammer probably 'd be banned. In a big town it depends on how important you are. And today we got a much better law system then a millenium ago.
