Another reason against shellbomy digging:
I can dig until I get a corn seed, take my watercan to the well 4 times per seed, grow my corn and water it carefully (3 times), take it to the mill, roll it into dough (with the 4th water), blow a coal for every 3-6 loafs cooking it, and wind up with a few 250-food, 3 kg loaves...
Or I can dig up a shell bomy, cut it in half, and get a 200 food, 6 kg meat in roughly 1/50th of the time and effort, without wasting a coal.
The problem here:
In the beginning, there was no food, and there was much starvation, and it was bad. And the masses cried out, Give us more food!, and Stefan said 'kay, and made wolves drop food, and later arms, and legs, and made mushrooms and potatoes and edible feet (which are as nourishing as mushrooms...), and those that could kill easily did not want for food. And he made Bile and Amulets of Sustenance, and Priests and the Rich did not want for food either.
And then the masses, spoiled from the availability of food whenever and wherever they need it, cried out Hey, there's no food on the Kingdom Islands!, paying no attention to the long-neglected windmills, wells and bakeries. And Stefan said 'kay, and gave them shell bomies to eat. And they were grudgingly content, but the farmers were screwed, as bread's soo not worth it. |
