Why do we need account pass to upgrade?

If one of my friends wants to reupgrade me before I run out I have to give them my pass? WHY IS THIS NESSACERY? Ugh just make it account name only needed to upgrade, because I trust no one with my pass...

Well you see, someone could upgrade your account with a stolen CC, but now that paypal is gone, dunno.
