Alpha on a tileset?

Could someone give me a list of free programs that I can set the alpha of a tile in and a walk through on how to do it? I googled for a while and couldn't find anything about it. I was probably searching the wrong keywords or something.

Transparency doesn't work on tiles, unless you use that one level editor, which still has quite a bit of issues I believe.

If you really want to try regardless, use a program like Adobe Photoshop (any CS version really...) and simply select the eraser and change Opacity on the toolbar to something like 50% and erasing stuff will make it 50% less solid (more see-through)

Alpha transparency is not available in the client only index transparency. Gonstruct is the one tile editor and I haven't noticed any bugs with it, the only thing that it really is missing is multi-tile flood filling. I personally use the old Macromedia Fireworks 8. Just cause it's simple and easy to use, yet powerful enough to do some cool stuff.

One way you could do Alpha transparency is to make one entire layer alpha transparent via script ( player.level.tilelayers[ #].alpha = 0.5; )

If you want to know how to set alpha in general, just wait for my paint.NET complete tutorial, which I should finish pretty soon
