Maloria Post-Preview thoughts

Now that our time with Preview status is over, I'd like to hear peoples thoughts and comments about the Maloria they got to see.

What did we do good? What can we change for the better? What were you really annoyed about? Anything you'd like to share is appreciated, as we can learn from it and work towards something different.

There were a lot of things I wish we would've been able to show off as well, which we were unable to do, due to lack of time and a certain someones bad habit of breaking things and then having to waste time repairing them (). Perhaps we'll get to do that some other time, we definitely will keep working!

Well most of my complaints can be found here xD
There wasn't that much to do other then running around pking.
But the scripting was very impressive specially the fire blast spell, and the inventory looked nice

I'd like to thank you for being our first test hamster on this. I personally received quite a bit of positive feedback in the sense that players hope to see it again when its finished.

My hopes are that your sleep deprivation and bad habits were worth the experience.

Maloria isn't the type of server I am interested in really, but I still tried to check it out just in case there was that something there for me, and Observer Mode pretty much killed exploring. The content that I was able to check out however didn't seem to differ much; a lot of generic houses, blank space, and very few identifiable areas. I agree with Galdor, the houses and aesthetics of a substantial part of what many would consider the server's identity looked bad. However, from when it first appeared onto the tab to where it is now, there seems to be progressing changes in that department.

The only hint I can really give is try to build the content densely, because it felt as though there was very little offered for those that don't really care to level up and fight.

As you may have noticed, Maloria is not online. We had planned on getting it back around the 25th (since we knew it would go down around then), but since it went down our thoughts have moved more towards "It won't be worth getting it back up", or at least based on the input given by staff so far.

We're going to make our final decision within the next week, but at the moment we really are leaning towards just letting it die, which is kind of a shame if you ask me. I just guess none of the current staff feel motivated enough with it?

Maloria staff, please do read and post your input here if you for some reason don't browse our forums but manage to stumple upon this thread.

I'm going to say that I think you should put it on hold as opposed to just closing it down. This time of the year is quite possibly the least motivating in terms of developing on Graal. You might feel as a collective that it wouldn't be worth continuing, but if you differentiate in your projects while the drive on Maloria is slow, you will end up looking at your project in a more positive way in the future. While it might be an interesting project to work on, it is not necessary to burn yourself out over it as it's not integral in the eyes of most of the community we have. Helping out the servers that do contribute towards Graal's image at times like this, even on mini projects, would probably be more beneficial to the game, players, and yourselves right now.

Then again, even if you give up complete I'm sure somebody will try to make a revival project out of it down the line.

Dont, Maloria's Graals last hope. Its the only server, i can see, as half decent.
If you cant finish it, atleast pass it on to somebody that can. Nobody wants a great server to dwindle away.

I'd be more than willing to devote more time to Maloria, it's just something about it put's me off of the idea...

Maybe it's because of Symphonia >< I've always worked on it and am used to planning how to make it different. Going to Maloria made me feel like I was working on something going a little more with the flow of someone else's generic idea's >>;....Not to say I wasn't impressed though, I really liked how professional the scripts were made to be (or at least...sounded) and looked. Like Galdor, I love the fire spell. :3
The levels are horrible ;_; I told you like 100 times...

I already told you Ziro, I'm still ready to spend most of my time for Maloria like I've done.
Maloria worth it to my eyes, and I loved working there (even during that short time I've done)

It's not like we're going to oblige you to rent it again, but hear my words, if you do, we can get to something quite great within 6months. For sure.

You speak as if what I posted what my feelings alone for Maloria, which is wrong. I would like nothing more then to see it succeed, but I can't make that happen on my own (believe me, I've actually tried) - it requires all of the staff team to be motivated enough to do so, and based on their input so far, the majority is not.

Based on that view, I feel like stepping down would hurt it more then it would help it, since there aren't many candidates that are as passionate about the server as I consider myself being. And unless they have an entire staff team behind them willing to pull through, it wouldn't even be worth considering.

You're going to have to do some hiring of your own and get a new team then... I guess...

That's easier said then done. We've always been looking for additional help in one way or another, and it's never there to be found. Even if it was, you're talking about ditching a staff team that's been working with each other one way or another for the past 4+ years (hell, me and Ducky go back to '00).

Everyone think this is so easy but when you're aiming for quality it's extremely difficult to hire the right people, let alone find them first.

We decided to give it another shot after all, and I've successfully repurchased the server and it is once again online with the name "Maloria".

Well I tried to help you guys, but the moment I started working you guys just disappeared. No where to be found. Didn't give me any direction. It was like a blanc paper: "Here do this, anyway you want to do it." But then when it was done it was not good. I'm not pissed off, just saying. Next time you get a staff you should focus on helping them. If you don't show any interest in them, why would they show interest in your server?

They're HELPING you, not you are HELPING them by letting them develop for you :P

Far from true. You usually logged on in the "dead hours" where most of us were afk, asleep, busy with other things etc. This is a problem for a lot of people that lives in different time zones, which is the whole reason behind us having forums. The staff are supposed to use those to discuss theirs and others projects, provide valuable input, and even ask for directions - which I specifically both asked you and your friend to do.

I gave you directions to how I wanted the Nayfle castle to look like, and your result was nothing like that. I'd go out on a line and say you didn't even try your best at it, because everyone who saw it said it looked extremely basic.

I did my best and I was pretty pleased with it considering that you didn't give me any directions; you said *Do whatever you want* Which in levelingstyle is really hard to define, especially when I have never played Maloria before...
I even remembered that I saw a guy replying to my thread verifying that he also thinks there is a problem with you guys not really showing any interest in what the staff does.

I came to you litteraly saying: Hey! I'm so eager to work. Give me an assignment.
You: Bhmehh... another LAT... talk to "johnny".
Johnny: ehhhh um whatever, heres a list of some stuff we need to do choose one of these.
Then the days/weeks after that I rarely saw anyone.

If you guys would have showed a single bit of interest in me, heck who knows? Your outsidelevels could've been finished by now.

(not trying to insult, just take it into consideration next time you are lucky to get a developer)

Extremely irrelevant where I live or not, I am not the sole administrator of Maloria. With that said, I used to be online on RC 24/7 but not actually being there other then 18.00-19.30 as well as 23.30-04.00, which are the only two time windows I spend on Graal if at all.

This.
Not even a server like Maloria stands a chance at getting anywhere these days. You're better off waiting and hoping for the day where that isn't true.
