Waited to let the dust settle.
Maloria Review
Maloria is a server that many people should remember from awhile back. It first came out with a very colorful and very controversial tileset (everyone seemed to have mixed feelings about it). Then it disappeared for awhile into the under construction list.Maloria has made a recent comeback and was recently reviewed.. The server has changed radically, and I would venture to say for the better. The other colors did set sort of a "tropical" feel, but they often were hard on the eyes. Not so for the new Maloria.
Events are a large factor in Maloria's enjoyability. These range from 2d shooting to racing to reflex tests. The events are nicely done and fun to play. It's also important to note that some smaller events, such as checkers, can be played outside as minigames by two players. There is also a casino where you can make or lose gralat.
Misc. detail is a very nice factor for Maloria. The torches actually go out when it rains, the weather system is done in such a way so that it doesn't lag my computer down. The mining system includes a sifting feature which makes it a bit more inclusive than smashing rocks and grabbing what falls out. Lumberjacking allows you to cut down trees anywhere around the world (as far as I've seen anyway). The level quality itself is about average, but the attention payed to detail otherwise is above average.
Quests are not so numerous. There is only one I believe, and this is one of the places that Maloria falls short. They do have one quest, and it is a nice quest, but it is only one quest. If they had a few more, that would make things much better. The one that there is lets you get more HP and MP, which is another system that Maloria sports.
Graphics are nicely done. The GUI is pretty, as are all of the items included therein. It seperates NPCs and items by different criteria, making it easier to find items than scrolling through a bunch in the traditional Q menu. The swords are nicely done, the light effects on the laser levels are nicely done, as are most of the custom graphics I've seen on Maloria.
Overall, Maloria only really needs to get a few more quests. I would pass it on what there is now, but more quests would make an already good server great. The job system is very nice and would keep people busy in absence of quests. I'd give it an 8.5/10.
