@ Alk, But The person unixmad has in the office full time is a very very VERY good PHP Programmer. and actually Unixmad has improved alot

"the way VB makes calls to the tables is somewhat unique. You'd risk heavy damage to the forums if you tried to run one, especially with this version of VB (2.2.2)"

It's not very unique.... pretty simple to modify it.

Ah, I see.

Regardless. Things could not be done to this forum safely, without prior things happening first. Not to mention to make any hack effective there are certain administrative things that must be done.

I know these things have not be done simply by looking at the forum.

Regardless, the point is moot. As it has been pointed out, the memberless is a useless tool on this forum that puts unneeded strain on the bandwidth/server not to mention the danger it psoes to the data of these forums.

Oh, MySQL Master, MySQL sports whats called Table Locking, If something was to crash the table would be locked and no data could be written, untill REPAIR TABLE was ran on it.....

Anyone who has worked with MySQL knows that table locking is rather simple to set off. Its annoying but safe, PgSQL also supports a "fail-safe"

Oh and yea, If the memberlist would put such a amazing load (Wow, your indexing and reading from a MySQL, no writting is done apart from to inodes) the mysql server would crash completely, then no one could write anything and there would be no data

but yea memberlist is a bad idea, makes people want to spam to get to #1

Alk knows alot about how MySQL, But so do I. But he has seen the strain caused before.

ZanderX is soo far off on his bandwidth estimate its sad, A call to a database of 100Kb? I doubt it, The output may be 100Kb but MySQL is not sending the data out to anywere but localhost, and graal has alot of bandwidth....

(BTW, They are both correct that it would cause strain and higher load, Just not for the right reasons)

That's no fun, Alk logged off :/

I second the ditching of the "hp/mana" bar thingers... They don't really make any sense to have because you don't use them. As far as i know, it's only based on post count...

Would be kinda empty there, what else ought we replace it with?

I wasn't trying to be accurate, I just making a point of that there's a lot more going on than just point & click, plug in & go, etc. The figures themselves are bogus, I just used the first numbers that popped into my head so that I could have an example.

Eh, well, if it's really something that would hurt Graal's bandwidth considerably, it should stay disabled. If not, I suppose it would be okay if it came back. I already know that I'm in 3rd place in terms of post count anyways.

I'd just like someone that is actually running the forums (HENCE RUNNING THE FORUMS; not people that think they know how it is being run). I just would like to know from Unixmad if the members list can be enabled again, and even upgrade the vb platform.

I'd say it's just the wasted bandwidth use if anything.

Its a pointless utility anyway.

Someone could write a script to scroll through all the calendar pages and collect the links to people's profiles at least.

Or he doesn't because he sees no point in getting it back. And has other things more importantly in RL to attend to, such as his job.

Why would he want to go back to babysitting a bunch of whiney children?

Oh ho. Such a witty come back.

Not everyone here is a whiney child. a majority of people are though. Why? Because the majority of people on Graal *are* children and teens.
