Global Beta Testers

Hi, i'm going to start a team called Global Beta Testers
Our main objective is to play newest graal and find as many bugs as possible.

This is official! Stefan have aprooved it.

Application:

1. What is your name
2. What is your graal nickname/account?
3. How many hours a day can you donate to this team?
4. Why would i choose you over anyone else?
5. What operating system do you run? (Must be Mac, Windows or Linux.)
6. Do you have VIP or/and gold time?

When completed the application, send it to [email protected]

What you get out of it: Well, you get noiticed by Graal Managment, you get to do something for graal.

Remember, this is no right, it's a priviledge(sp?).

Email me for more information.

NOTE: I deleted the other thread because it wassn't the original one. + It had to much arguing in it.

Edit: yes, the team is active again.

This whole thing just sounds stupid, I really don't know why Stefan endorsed the thing if he has been saying in almost every other thread to use the help desk.

I applied. In the e-mail, I said twice that I was sorry about yesterday. I'll again say I'm sorry. ._.;

I'm sure it will probably end up being ignored after a week like most things. This whole thing is just an excuse for people to suck up to Stefan and Unix and give themselves a name.

You can't blame a man for trying. If it does get ignored, oh well. And I do realize this is an "ego booster", but think. One of the main reasons people want to be staff or be powerful in a game is to be popular. Why do we complain about it?

I wasn't turning it into an arguement, I was stating my opinion. It's when people respond to my posts that I feel the need to respond back.

I think it could be done in another way:
Hire a bugs admin.
Forward the bug reports to the bugs admin, he would filter the reports and submit them to Stefan and unixmad.

Teams are still more efficient. The Bugs Admin would have the same problem as Stefan would have; being swarmed(no pun intended) by emails.

You tried to make that pun, ANTAGO. >:[

There used to be a Bugs Admin, and I'd bet he would have been swarmed with e-mails, like you said. There should be a team that finds bugs, instead of there being a person that all the bugs are reported to.

I have to agree with the Bugs Admin comment. Sure, they'd need to filter through lots of emails. How is that different to the current setup? Or are normal users not allowed to report bugs in this system?

Whichever approach is taken, the leader should be selected based on programming knowledge etc. It shouldn't just be awarded to whoever raises the idea...

I don't think that a team of 10, or even 20 members will be able to find more than 25% of the bugs.

No doubt. But it's easier to have a game with fewer bugs when people actively look for them and find them.

How can you actively search for bugs? Sure, there are a few obvious places to look (although non-programmers probably couldn't identify those places...), but the majority of bugs are just things that you stumble upon while you're using the software.

You do stuff like trying all the combinations of options, going to different PWs and trying different options out, see if running certain popular programs has negative effects, that sort of thing.

A bug admin would be a better idea, but I still don't know why we just don't use the graal support desk, that is what it's supposed to be used for.

Like I said in the other thread, efficiency. The fewer bugs Stefan/Unixmad have to deal with on an individual basis the more time they have to work on new features and such.

Yup. With the experiences I've had testing and finding bugs for games, doing that finds 99% of bugs noticed by players. The other 1% would be minor programming errors that might cause a tiny bit of lag, or just something not exactly noticable in game to players.

Either way they will still be fixing these bugs, since I'm sure this team wouldn't be able to fix them.

No, but I'm sure that a list of bugs sent by 1 email to Stefan or Unixmad would be better than 200x that, many of which would probably be the same bugs from different players. It's just general organization, and it certainly isn't costing Stefan or Unixmad money.

Psch, that'd find a tiny number of bugs. Most are in the scripting language or the image drawing stuff or whatever - the obvious stuff is ironed out long before the version is released.

Wouldnt it just be better to report them to bugs forum, like everyone else? As to find all the bugs they wouldn't they have to test the clients coding, and not just messing around with it, so actually debug the code?

Players without gold or VIP accounts can't post there though.

It is the players job to notify the staff when they see a bug of some sort, you don't need a damn team to do this. This is just going to get Managers angry.

Yup. Because Graal's not a beta or alpha testing game, it's considered full version.

As has been said, this is a mere cry for popularity. No one has brought up any good arguments as to why this is a good idea, nor has anyone shown how this is a better system than what is in place now.

This is not a good idea. Why?

1. Anything backed by Tyrial can't be good or has a secret motive behind it that benefits him. (biased, but I felt the need to include)
2. As Kaimetsu said, the team serves no true purpose other than finding bugs. They have no power to actually try to get the bugs fixed. Why must one have to have a title and recognition before they are willing to help Graal?
3. The Delphi code has been refined for a long time now and is pretty solid. The only thing that really needs to be tested for bugs is Graal 3.0. But again, the VIPs are already beta testing this and are reporting the bugs as they are found. I've yet to see a valid reason why a team is required when the bugs are already being found by whom is being allowed to find them.

Does this benefit Graal? No...why?

1. If bugs are found that no one else was able to (not likely), the bugs will still be there. Finding them will expedite the process of having them removed, but there is still no indication of when the bug will be gone. A better solution is to have an experienced programmer working WITH Stefan as to lighten his busy workload and get things done on time for a change.
2. This only benefits Tyrial and the people that he hires. They get recognition and an opportunity to be part of a group endorsed by Stefan. What's worse is that all they have to do is be part of this little cliche. This will be the focus of the group...who is able to stay in...rather than actually getting the bugs fixed.
3. It sends the message that all you have to do is talk to Stefan and be his friend if you want anything done on Graal. Basically, the only way to get what you want here is to be friends with the globals. This is not a good message to send to players. Instead of getting quality staff you are just going to have your buddies. Hence, RC becomes a chat room instead of a place to do work.

Thank you, drive thru.

The answer:

Quote:
*Stefan (02/07/2003 18:22:57):
i dont know, tyrial wants to make a team of bug testers, dont know why he needs me to approve it though
Spark911 (02/07/2003 18:21:12):
Also in the main forum it says 'Global Bug Testers' - What do they do?
Meaning its not a job as such, or I read it this way, so I think they are only going to be going through what there is and jsut report the bugs. So nothing players with access here dont do. Just they will say ''we are on a bugs team''.

And for record: Im not on the team, that up there was a joke from tyrial:

Quote:
spark911pwa (21:48:17):

1. What is your name
2. What is your graal nickname/account?
3. How many hours a day can you donate to this team?
4. Why would i choose you over anyone else?

1) Anthony Thomas
2) Spark910:Spark911
3) 3-4
4) <3
Tyrial(21:48:36): ;o
Tyrial (21:48:40): u r hierd!
spark911pwa (21:48:49): :-D
spark911pwa (21:59:36): ''Tyrial Adiarde (21:48:40): u r hierd!''
