Tyhm has a spectacular aura about
Connections and Synchronizing

1) Global Strings - now that we can warp people to other servers, wouldn't it be nice to send a Global String with them so they don't just pop up at the start?
What I mean is,
NPC Code:

if(playertouchsme){
setstring global.classicwarp,museum;
unset onserver; //local flag for tracking
setserver NewMain;
}

if(playerenters){
if(strequals(#s(global.classicwarp),museum)&&!clie nt.onserver){
set client.onserver;
setlevel2 classicmuseum.graal,30,30;
}
}

So that, if the two worlds are cooperating, a player can warp from the museum on Classic to the G2K1 ruins of the Classic museum - but a rogue LAT on Delteria or whatever couldn't force the players to warp to Classic's jail, see, the local LATs decide what strings to accept and what strings to ignore...I'm rambling, but does anybody get the idea?

strings that start with global. are saved to the account registry (where the password and upgrade time are kept - all the global stats) - every world can only write its own stats (ie global.Classic[stringname] can only be edited on Classic) but can be read anywhere...you could store the fact that a player beat every quest on Classic, then when they go to G2K1 they come in with KungFu Level 50. Or you could store the player's appearance on G2K1 when they warp, and presto, they're already set on G2K2. At the local admins' discretion.

2) T-Shirts. I like the designs - but I have to agree, they're not very Graaly yet. If it was CC Larry, Chancellor Timemutt, Zol, Ayla Stormcaller and Mandi it'd be cool, instead it's these five characters I've never seen before and have a hard time explaining.
But between the lot of us we basically run all the official servers - let's explain them. It'll be an artists rendering of, say, Gilgamesh, Cole, Sage, Xero and Ulysses...five characters who play a key role in some major plot on one of the three worlds. Gilgamesh, the evil knight who holds no allegiance to either side, and so fights with you a couple times while the battle interests him. Cole, the carefree thief with a tendency to get caught and need releasing from jail. Sage, a witch thousands of years old though she doesn't look it, master of the mystic arts. Xero the Assassin, um, I dunno...he does something. Saves your life at one point, then you have to save his and he gives you a key. Ulysses, an eccentric millionaire who hires the adventurer in the first place and turns out to be collecting the relics as part of his evil plan to take over the world. Or so it seems. Faster than he looks, cowboy-style.

I attatched a file with their appearances as near as I could get them with Classic bodies...if you guys can do even better on the new bodies, power to yah. So where do these characters appear? All in G2K2? Some in G2K1? Spread out throughout the three? Sage could appear in all three eras...

What you said about servers made sense I'm just wondering when that museum's coming around.... and if it's not really ready yet, I could put it in Zal... >:]

But the T-Shirts part... uhhh... kinda lost me there. I had no clue the different servers were connected in some way... so you totally lost me there...Although, I have done a T-Shirt with me, TrueHeat, and Dante on it... so, I have an idea of what to do for different Graal people
I would have done the T-Shirts differently, I agree....

1) I dunno if a museum's planned, but just putting a treehouse somewhere with the Historian in it who warps you to Classic for free should do the trick in about five minutes of editing...and if we had global strings, we could warp the other way too, with the historian informing the ghosts that they can see the future, but cannot influence it.
2) The servers are not connected. Yet. I think they should be.
Classic - the past
G2K1 - the future, after the Bomy Moon enters Graal's orbit and the gravity shockwaves rip apart all the old landmarks
G2K2 - the deeper future, after the Bomy Sun explodes or something.

But the characters - they're good characters, so where should we put them?

Huh... the entier future past thing sounds like something I suggested for Graal2k1 earlier... Something like there was three time periods that you had to travel around to get stuff and all that blab, kinda like three different servers in one. There was the past, kinda like the when 2k1 first came out, nothing really there and such, lotsa trees... Then there's the present, with the bomy moon and everything that's being developed right now... and then the future, where there are hardly any trees, lands darker, and the evil bomies plague the land and such. Not to mention the forests are burned....

It could work with the three servers. I might be starting up an old project and place it underground in Zalactic Labs. This would be the Hall of Archives, filled with info on Graal's past and such. Sound good?

Sure, that'd be cool. You could have level5.graal "preserved" down there, surrounded with the cave and all torn up...

Anyone else wanna chip in on Global Strings and characters?

Alternative idea:

setserver could take an argument. Example:

setserver newmain,mines;

Then the playeronline trigger to the Control NPC thing would have that argument stored in #p(0), so the script could choose where to put the player based on that. Only trouble would be worlds without an NPC Server...

[edit]
Ack, I shouldn't have access to here, should I?

Another thing...
Classic is in year 2380something...
that means Graal2330 (or whatever that is...if I got it wrong I can up the year on Classic) would actually be in the past...which is cool, since I always wanted Graal to be postapocolyptic...G2330 can be the world that advanced too far technologically and, at some implied point after the G2330 storyline, was destroyed...superior to Classic and all that, but tragically doomed to become it.

Now that, I must say, it really nifty thinking.

Ah ha! Here we go.. perfection...

First we have the G2330, which got to good for itself abusing the Zalactic Technologies. Forcing themselves into exile, the Zalactic Technologies went away... And then came the apocolypse, and then the people started over and rebuilt themselves to Classic, which in turn goes to 2k1. Now then, Zalactic slowly unveils itself, but is stopped again.. and now we have this... I'm assuming 2k2 is just kinda a sidestory in 2k1... lol I dubbed the islands on 2k2 the Southern Isles.... being as how the ocean on 2k1 is in the southern region, and so it would make sense...

Man... this could be really nifty difty

Right, so Graal Classic would be 600 years later, after the fall of the futurey society...I guess that means the Titan Geomydian (Avalon well quest) wouldn't be in G2230, except maybe as a prototype...

fits in with the story, first happens, earth go boom, survivor, than bleh, here is the story:

Graal 2230
Life, Longevity, Liberty

Chapter 1 : Genesis

For countless generations, we had lived amongst the stars. When our ancestors first achieved space travel in the year 1998, we knew that we were destined for great things. We were wrong; dead wrong. Beginning with the development of our first phase-space reactors in 2043, our technology expanded rapidly as we expanded further and further. Soon, we came to the magnetic edge of the solar system…and we halted. We were not sure whether we should go on or not; were we ready? For decades, our society had built it self up to this.

And so, in 2066, the legendary Space Exploration Ship “Midas 7” punched its way outside of the solar system, and into free space, unrestricted by gravitational pulls from stars or planets, or any other sort of cosmic arrays. It was a legendary moment, and also the beginning of our downfall.

Full of pride, we believed we could control everything. Beginning with the subjugation of the Mother Planet, Juge. We, that is, Galahad, the Galactic Hand, believed that we were the proprietary rulers. And so, systematically, we began to take over. One world fell to us, and then the next. It came with a sense of intoxication; we could not lose, no one had the capability to defeat us.

In 2105, we had reached the pinnacle of our power. Our federation stretched across hundreds of worlds through dozens of galaxies. Technology was at its height, and humanity had never in its history enjoyed a greater sense of peace and freedom; or so we thought. There were still some out there who sought to remove us from power…but even they could not foresee the apocalypse.

Our first contact with “them” came in 2149, on a fringe world named Imrn. Archaeological digs there turned up evidence of a race older than we, and more advanced. Putting it all off as rumors, we closed down the site. Only to watch it, and Imrn, be mercilessly pummeled by an orbital bombardment days later. Not too long after, “they” began to appear across all of our federation, ruining what we had. Entire worlds became space dust before their onslaught, and before we knew it, trillions were dead, and we had been pushed back to the very edge, what we at the time called the “Dark Zone”…our own Solar System.

Chapter 2 : Exodus

We were alone; those we had taken now forsook us to return to their holes in the ground, afraid of this new enemy. We could not stand up to it; true to the records, they were far more advanced than we, and were outnumbered as well. So, we did what we could to hold off the tide of invasion. Huge energy barriers were thrown up around planets, giant planetary cannons constructed…but it was all in vain. They knew our home, they knew our plans, and so they advanced on the Mother Planet, Juge.

We quickly hurried plans for an evacuation. It was well known, even to our shattered public, that we would not survive; at least, not on Juge. The rest of the fleet was sent to halt their advance; thousands of ships against an unknown number of enemies…in what we hoped might be a final victory, a triumph over “evil”. Again, our arrogance did us in. As we watched mothers and fathers, sisters and brothers, cousins and friends burn in the vacuum of space, we realized that we had but one way out: retreat.

And so began our exodus. Fleeing from the red and green planet which had for so long harbored our wayward souls, we fled into the depths of space. In those final fleeting moments, we watched our planet implode into a fiery display of death and agony. We were few, and they were many…but they let us go. Was it so we could suffer?

Alas, we had no place to go. While we had long prepared for such an event, a destination was lost to us. We could not go to any populated zones, nor could we go to any heavily watched trading routes. We, Galahad, the Galactic Hand, had fallen, and were now homeless…but was it for long? In our most dire moment of need, we discovered a home…a derelict home, floating in vacuum…but a home none the less.

That was how we came to arrive here. Sigma-Copernicus, a once-active research station on the very fringe of the known galaxy. We were few, and alone, but we were strong, and through our own perseverance did we find ways to make due with our limited resources. At long last, in the year 2193, we had found a home.
Chapter 3 : Leviticus

We had a home. We had our lives back, but we were missing one thing: pride. We had nothing more to boast about…until we found that which we believed would bring us back to glory. Deep within this aging space station, we found it. NOPO. NOPO stands for Nanomachine Operated Production Organism. Able to produce for our benefit anything we desired, it saved not only our lives, but our honor.

Our population began to grow…Sigma-Copernicus was a large installation, capable of holding up to a million inhabitants, and there were but a few thousand. We had time to expand, or so it seemed. Very swiftly, they found us. We thought they had gone for good, leaving us to our miserable existence, but once again, for the third time, we were wrong.

They came upon us like a swarm, and we had no way of defense. No weapons, no shields…the station was a sitting duck. We attempted to hail them, to ask for peace, but to no avail, as it had always been. Black shapes, flying in the blacker darkness of space. As if by the grace of God himself, a member of our engineering team found an experimental mass-phasing device deep in the research chambers. It was our only hope. Even as airlocks were blown open and the enemy prepared to board us, we used what we considered to be a trump card…and it was all over.

The next any of us could remember, we were somewhere…else. An unknown location, in an unknown ship. It was not Sigma-Copernicus, nor was it anything we had remotely seen before. Nor were we all there; Some of us had lost brothers, some sisters, others had lost friends…they simply ceased to exist. Was it really righteous to pay such a cost for freedom? We debated this, over and over, as we sat alone in the dark...

And so our search for light began. Lost, we gave our new home a name. Asgard. It would be our own heaven, we would make it as such. The long road to recovery and to redemption lay ahead of us…as well as life. Survival in such an environment, without any “modern” conveniences would be…difficult, to say the least.

Sweeet, love the mythological refereences. A few tense problems, but otherwise kickass.

Worth noting - the Mass Phaser has a timing problem. Everyone is warped to the same pad, but...not all at the same time. Thus explaining the existance of newbies.
Have players start out at a splash screen and character selection menu, then they "teleport" into the world of G2230.

Gonna kick so much ass...

And oh yeah. Save the scourge for the second half, obviously...whatever you encounter on the ship should be primarily antiquated defences and whatever the fridge slime mutated into, low level stuff. When you get the Blade of the Light Edge or whatever, then you can battle back the scourge...

Further unsolicited advice for G2230

Play out the first part of that diatribe in text in the intro, about how they conquered worlds and stuff, Metroid or StarWars style...then work a cutscene where the main characters (not necessarily the player - establish the support heroes early on, the captain, the rebel, the mechanic, the admiral) rush a group of characters, including the created player, onto the phaseshifters...player regains control on the new ship, and whoever's there to greet them is there to greet them.
Maybe they have a scripted battle where they fall back to the phasers, to learn the controls on the fly...you know, like in Super Metroid where you fight Ridley or Ripley or whatever that purple guy was, and no matter what he flies off with the metroid...like that.

Naturally, but it's important to have everything planned before construction...unlike on Classic, where everything was planned several years too late.

Yeah, Metroid is going to be the best way through this, since Metroid is originally what I started basing Zalactic Labs off of.... cept, I haven't made any giant dragons that steal things... hmmm... nor big brains that haunt peoples' dreams..... ah well...

Jeeze.... the fact that these are all connected just overwhelms me..... so fun....

Bad bad Gonmonmonmonzor.

Uhm the onlinestart local of 2230 is really net with npc server, falados is a great scripter.

Maybe I should get Unix to make the 2230 forum
than get a domain out of him
than hosting
than t-shirts
than website
than coffy mugs
than get him to print a comic series based on 2230!
than take over graal
than take over the world
than inslave all for my own biddings
than go to sleep.

Umyeah...how 'bout just setting up a port so we can see it develop? ^_^

I guess I'm tackling the characters on the shirt on Classic...works, anyway. I replaced all the guys who bust you out of jail with the same guy, Cole, the thief on the TShirt. ^_^

Yeah, ideally it should be set up so that the space station in Classic looks like a caved in part of the ship from G2230 that the aliens reopened...that would be sooo cool. ^___^
Maybe even the ship from the intro of G2230...naah. It'd be cooler if the phaser warps the players into an entirely different dimension or something...oh well, the subtle recognizability of it is the important part, giving prior worlds cameos....

haha Tyhm called you a Goober Logan!!

Its all about the addtiledef2 man!

Sure you can use 2230 tiles, not a biggy, I'm redoing them to make them look a bit more detailed and fit a new graphic style for 2230, and as for the space port... we lost scotty though an eating binge and an acident with the transporter computer.... but aside from that, everything is just PEACHY!.

the thing you will have to do with the tiles is arrage them on pics1.png and than addtiledef2

the place I add them is where the top ice castle tiles start.

Shweet...might redo the ships with this...euh, maybe not, it's fairly incompletish. I'll hold off until G2230 goes public and there's familar territory, or at least until there's a few levels I can "date" to turn into a piece of the Lunaris station. ^_^

How's this for an intro?

It was #v(ClassicYear-2230) years ago that our forefathers, the brave crew of the Midas met with disaster...
[shot of a ship getting hammered]
...abandoning their world before the ravenous foe, they found themselves on the ship Asgard, but nowhere they had ever charted...
[shot of the bridge of the Asgard]
...in time, they reached this world, Graal, a world with a people and history of its own...over time the bloodlines became mixed, but little of their great technology has survived...
[shot of a Graalian/G2230 wedding]...a matter of centuries after their landing, a great cataclysm struck this world. Azazel, high chancellor of the kingdom of Ceres, betrayed his own people. The kingdom, and all the wisdom of its people, sank beneath the waves forever...
[shot of Avalon sinking to its current level]
...Azazel, along with his four priests, sealed themselves in stone to escape the destruction. They remained trapped at the bottom of the sea...
[shot of the statues]
...until ten years ago, the "statues" vanished....
Too cheesy? Did I get any of the G2230 stuff wrong?
