Playerworld Requirements causing Bad Levels?

Now that I don't go on Rudora anymore (Now that I've been banned.) I've started looking at other playerworlds again, and it's actualy quite depressing. Everywhere I go, I find a big pile of neglected, useless levels, with no or very little organisation.

I'm wondering if the 200 level requirement is a bit much? Here we have people wanting a playerworld so they use the levelgen, pop out 200-250 levels, and work on about 10-12 of them well, then try to "fill in" the others with whatever they can. When you consider that most of these playerworlds only get 10-30 players for the first few months of exsistance, is it really nessairy for them to have enough levels for each person to have 15 to themselfs? A good PW can eaisly expand when the time comes to do so, and having fewer levels to concentrate on would probably result in a beter overall quality in future playerworlds on Graal. I think 50-100 outside levels would be a more reasonable requirement. Instead of judgeing quantity, the focus would be on quality. "Are the quests fun, and origional?", "Are the levels visualy attractive?", "Are there clues to help me find quests? Is it easy to figure things out here?" Stuff like that. I don't think servers are as fun when theres too much land and not enough people, but thats just my view on it.

Anyone else thinking this?

Questions? Comments? Thoughts? Lets get a discussion going or something.

Well here is my view on the matter:

It isn't the level requirement that is hurting the pw's, it's the reviewing. Obviously we have yet to have a GREAT pw to use as an example of what a great pw should be. The requirement is there so that pw's are big and not 20 levels because it's just an essential thing to have more than enough space for the players.

However, you say most of the levels are put together crappily, well whose job is it to check for that? Playerworld administration right? Just because the pw has 200 levels does not mean it has passed. Playerworlds get turned down all the time and they might have 200+ levels. The pw's online now are mostly hideous I agree, but this is because they got up before lots of rules were put in place, when Stefan would put them online without reviewing it or something, or that they have completely taken down their original pw and replaced it with a new one that is still UC (I DONT THINK THIS SHOULD BE ALLOWED) >=/

Is the name that important? What's beter, a small server that players enjoy, or a massive one that has 3 people on it?

Yeah. Quality is better than quantity.

I'm not so sure if Stefan would approve, though. He got angry at me a few times for changing rules and not informing him.

I really want to change some rules. If only Stefan would listen to me. :o

You know, the few playerworlds that did get put up that were reviewed by Playerworld Administration met the requirements and actually looked good. Nothing can be done about the playerworld owner turning it into crap afterwards. Just simple warnings.

Well then you would probably be reviewing playerworlds 24/7 then. The requirements now are all right.

Quality is definately better than quality. I mean come on. Look at Andor they had a nice server as it was. It was just big enough. Now they have 400 level server! Most of the people hang out in the first 6 levels of the game anyways. Lets break it down and look. We have classic, 200 people, massive quests, quality fun, they need the extra levels to handle the people. Now look at other servers, they try to do the same thing with only 10 people max who 3/4 of the time are staff. I personally would like the limit lowered. I am 50% done with my p2p server and you know the highest it will grow to is 30 people max counting staff. So I am gonna try to make my server fun and not huge. It will have a 49 level overworld. So thats 1/4 of what I have to have to pass the test. That sux. So I am putting my time into some 40 level quests! Someone change the PW admittance rules please, and Stefan I hope you read this.

Say you have 4 good LAT's.
Each one of those LAT's make in about a month or 2 month time period around 15-20 outside levels each.
That would be about 60-80 outside levels right?
So now say you have at least 1 house on each one of those 60 outside levels. For each house there is at least 3 inside levels.
So that wuld be about maybe 90 inside levels.

Quality quests? I think for a quest to be good, if its inside of a cave or house or something then it should be at least 5 levels long. If it's less than 5 then it should be a very hard quest.
10 simple quality and original quests about 5 levels long.
50 levels from quests maybe?

60-80
90
50

over 200 levels. Simple?

I don't know these are just my ideas.

I think playerworlds from this point on should be required to be multi-purpose playerworlds. Not just an RP only playerworld, or pking server, or questing server only, or jobs server only. It should contain a little bit of all of it.

But hey these are just my ideas.

mmmmkay: Slowly I am kicking away at the 1000+ Faheria overworld. Although when we release, you only have access to so many of them (about half) and in time the others will be released. It will be quality and quantity

After looking at Providence, I think this is a VERY good example of what I'm talking about... TOO MUCH LAND!!! The levels that have been modified since the levelgen are completely full of tilkeing errors and every single tree is an NPC (thats annoying.)

I think I'm going to try and put up an old-school playerworld, based on the old classic, and rudora, style. I'm going to make a huge world, (dont know the size yet.) but it will all be ocean. I'll start off with only one continent. That way, we'll eaisly beable to add levels a continent at a time. The playable overworld I'm looking at now is about 50 levels, with quests for: a heart, maybe two, both gloves, magic, a magic npc, energy, an energy npc, the blood axe, the mirror shield, and the lizard shield. and maybe a few more. I'll try to develop a small storyline that connects all the quests and such to give it the old z-elda feel. If it gets regected because of playable levels, I'll simply start the next continent and re-submit it.

Anyone interested in working on an old-school project like this? If so, let me know. I'm thinking the name should be something like Legends or Myth. Thoughts? Questions? Comments?

I'm trying to do something like that on my own. How much I get done depends on how much time I put into it. I only have 9 levels currently done and the storyline is very much there.

I don't see what the big deal is.. someone could easily make about 5-10 levels or more a day, considering on how long it takes them.. I mean, even if it takes you an hour to finish one level, you could work 1-3 hours a day on it, and have 1-3 levels done each day alone.

Some people can make levels quicker than others, just like some people can draw awesome artwork in 10 minutes, while it takes another person 3 hours to make something that isn't as good.

I could make over 10 levels a day (good levels I guess). In a months time, you would have 200+ levels from one person alone. It isn't even a time crunch thing either.. if the person can devote 1-2 hours out of their day, then that is all that's needed. It's the fact that people are LAZY and don't want to work. That is why we get big level generated pw's with barely anthing on them. Generating levels takes no work at all.

To be able to work hard on a pw every day for over a month, is a commitment I don't think any of the servers have made.

mmmmkay: I would like to see you do that, they would definately not be good detailed overworld outside levels. I take like 2-3 hours on my outsides, and I cruise x.x!

Level Generated PWs are all bad... It's the ones that are left blank that suck... If you can't tell that the levels are generated... Then great! (besides looking at the level names i mean) It saves time and gives the creators more time to work on other things, maybe better quests or something. I think all these ugly un-finished playerworlds should never be accepted again...

I'm slow then. Cause the 9 levels I got took me about a week of working on them. About half an hour or less working on them each time I did.

I also like to make little side notes on ideas that just pop up every now and then while I'm working on stuff. Sometimes I get sidetracked when I get a great idea for an npc to make. I usually blow it when I get half the npc done and don't finish it off. lol
but oh well. It'll get done eventually. That's why I'm aiming for December. I'm gonna take my sweet old time.
