Is this some sort of allegory for my experiences with Tyealia?

I have ALWAYS wanted quests like that. I've even tried to get some started before, but they didn't really work out. (Got lazy)
But if there were quests like this on any server, I would fall in love with it. I really hope Graal2002 takes this into consideration.

Hmm..you would not think it was so fun when someone...for the purpose of the argument, let's just say Hero McDohl, got hold of a level 2 sword and was the ONLY person who could ever have it.

I like the idea where if you die holding some legendary weapon then you drop it and that you cant have more than one legendary weapon. Also screw lvl 2 sword I think it should be something unique not something that every single server out there aside from g2k1 has.

We're not talking about something as serious as a level 2 sword here.

I love the idea (- the boss... a little bit)!
I think I might make something like this for Graal2002. I am currently working on a really complex and long quest but I will now probably add something like an extremely hard Labyrinth which may take many hours to figure out. At the end there can be the... *stay tuned to find out more on release*

I like the idea just not sure if its worth all the work for a couple people.
These levels and NPCs wouldn't exactly be wasted. Like suppose there was a monster in an un explored cave somewhere in the mountains. Then a band of adventurers defeat the monster. Now that the monster is gone people (NPCs) begin to explore the cave. Before you know it they could find a rare ore that has only been found in that cave. Or, better yet, suppose they they find a tunnel that may help shorten travel to another area. However, while making this tunnel easier to travel through (hanging torches, etc.) they stumble upon a group of trolls that inhabit the deeper ends of the cave. The trolls could possibly move into the front of the cave, and so on, and so on...

Tyhm has a spectacular aura about
Nee. A disposable, epic, bugless, one-run quest. It's a contradiction. It won't be bugless unless everyone goes through and finds and reports the bugs until they're fixed. If I make an epic quest, it won't be disposable - I could easily make the Ninja Quest hard enough that only a group of people working together can ever reach the end, then all the bosses stay dead afterwards. But that would suck, particularly for people who are neither Lord Jeff nor his Merry Men - they wait 6 months for a quest none of them can beat, then find out it was beaten by a mob of friends who just swarmed the place while they were asleep.

I should do a news post like that. A massive quest for the goldsword was added, and defeated, now nobody else can get it. Cope.

I don't think you understand at all Tyhm. It's not, like... a ****ing gold sword quest, or a lifting glove quest, it's the actual finding of an item. The quests on classic and 2k1 really don't mean ****. Everyone gets the same item, and because of that, the items suck.

they wouldn't have bugs that let people get past them easily because there would be online testing by an admin or two.
thourough testing
and there wouldn't be one "super quest", there would be tons of quests like this all over, and more added as some get completed every few months
some would be large scale, for important items, and some would be relatively meaningless

ADDITION: I suppose it would suck for Jeff and his friends if that happened, but not as much as it would suck to continue having the same types of quests as usual.

Wait a minute Thym, it's not disposable. Once the item has been retrieved by the hero the storyline will change the purpose of the place where it was taken from and it will "evolve" into something else.

TrueHeaT and I have talked it out and we have some pretty nifty stuff lined up for you. Oh, and about bugs. I promise you that I will have 99.99% - 100% of all bugs driven out before it's released.

Uhh, what?
No!
It's for a group of adventurers! No one man could slay the minautor unless they were some sort of super man!

Argh!
And after a quest is completed, an area wouldn't immediately turn into a new quest. There'd be a sign in it glorifying the hero and it would be free of demonic scourge or whatever, and then maybe a month or two later, a family of trolls decides to live in whatever place and throw rocks down on a town.

Here's an idea to add. How about everyone gets an item. Say, Lord Jeff and his men. they would all get an item. But, the item's value is proportionate to what they did in the quest. Say one of them killed most of the monsters there, and another one kill only a few. Let's call them Joe and Bob. Joe killed a lot, so he gets a fairly rare item, such as a better swrod or something. Bob, on the other hand, didn't do much, so maybe he gets a treasure chest with 1og in it. He could also keep the chest though, to add a bit of gameplay, and be able to carry more stuff with him. (If they add a system like that).

I dunno.. then that means that whatever item is the prize would never stay the same and I'd want specific prizes for specific quests. Say if a giant sword was the main prize, Jeff would of course get it because he is the leader of the group. The others can grab whatever gold and riches they want

Heh, that is what I mean. I never meant immediately. It would change as the story unfolds.

RP wise,

Graal should elect a group of adventures, they should go on quests throught graal and bring along people to help, however they are not as strong, so they may die.

And new people will be elected.

So quests like that may work.

But I have no idea of the context of what the **** I just said

hehe

Great Idea Truheat. This is what Graal should be all about. Someone should round up a group of people and make a server, with the ultimate RPing experiance. Trueheat would of course lead the whole thing. Anywho, awesome idea, sounds like a flawless RPing experiance.

I see your point. The main adventurer WOULD take the main treasure, even if he did nothing, wouldn't he? :|

There should not be a problem with this as I will explain with an example:
(NB: This is ONLY an example)

The "loot" apon completion of the near impossible quest will consist of many, many riches and the ultimate item.

Once an alliance is formed between a small group of players they can register their alliance with... lets say the king and have a max of say four members. When registering you specify a "leader" and up to three other "looters".

The king then allows them entry to the cave when all other alliances who have come before you have failed to complete the task.

You then have a set time limit to try and get through the cave, solving as many puzzles along the way as you can. The "looters" of the alliance may pick up items and valuables along the way if they can be found. The "leader" cannot.

If you suceed you gain access to the "lost treasury" where only the "leader" can collect the "ultimate treasure" while the "looters" may collect all the items from around the room.

-----

If you have two people who both want the "ultimate treasure" then they can form tow seperate alliances with people who couldn't care less about the "ultimate treasure" and just want the gold and riches they have the chance of getting.

Well, if this quest was released, what will most likely happen is the people who are online at the time, will all reach the quest at more or less the same time, this will result in PKing, and mass blocking of stuff.

Anyway, seeing as around 40 people will most likely all be trying to do the same quest at the same time, whatever "boss" is at the end will be hammered into the ground in no time, and then just some lucky person will end up with the "legendary weapon"

True, but you could do things to prevent that. Like, after 8 people enter the mysterious cave, the opening collapses, they are trapped. No one else can enter.

And, the admins could just upload the quest, and not tell anyone about it. So someone comes wandering along, and stumbles upon the entrance, if they are smart and want the loot for themselves, they tell only their friends.

You really think we would announce the whereabouts?

Tyhm has a spectacular aura about
Hey, if you can pull it off, power to yah. I'm sure not gonna stop you. Remember, I'm the sponsor of Old Classic, The Doomed Concept Playerworld...I was in favor of That Which Cannot Be Named, though not to the extent which I was misquoted as, because it was a similarly flawed concept, and sure enough it collapsed under its own weight. I'm just warning that it's gonna get ugly fast.

Firstly, you are going to spend a minimum of a month on these caves. A couple weeks on the boss, a couple weeks debugging, no matter how fast you tile it.
Secondly, you are going to get so many complaints it will make your eardrums pop.
Reason A - Say Jeff's Adventurers is 1% of Graal's population. 99% didn't get to do the quest, and so waited a month so you could give something to someone else.
Reason B - No matter what, it's gonna get ugly at the prize room. Jeff will get disconnected, or killed, there will be a FFA among the former allies, someone's gonna grab the prize first and not give it back, someone's gonna steal more money than everyone else and YOU will be expected to remedy this, because it's not fair.
Reason C - people don't read signs. They'll go through the entire cave to the now-empty treasure room and riot when they find out the quest had already been compleated, "this iz total BS I waited a month for a nu quest and it's this empty cave shizzit!?!"
Finally, once you see an entire month's work conquered the day it's released (and it will be, if it's physically possible - otherwise you've made something utterly useless, an impossible quest isn't fun for anybody and will invariably be labeled "bugged"), once it's over you're going to want to reopen it. Whether or not your resolve stands remains to be seen.

Yeah, in a perfect world all the bosses would be unique, every adventurer would either get a common prize in a commn quest or a unique prize in a unique quest, no more of this every person on Graal has the same legendary spear and magic helmet...but we don't live in that world. It sucks, but it's easier to make one thing for everyone than one thing per person.

Ah, not necessarily. You see it won't be so much the size of the labyrinth, more or the way you go or you will end up where you started. About the boss, yeah but so be it... good work takes time. Finally about debugging, a few weeks? Sheesh! A day maybe.

Indeed but secrets spread waay too fast in Graal. Everyone would know about it within a day and I promise you it will take a lot longer than a day to complete. There will also be checking on statistics so you must be at least a little experienced to enter.

I don't believe there is anything stopping me from putting limits on the amount that can be collected by each player. Once the boss is defeated, the leader is registered as the new owner and so he can return there at a later date if he logs off.

There is no reason that the caves enterance cannot collapse and so blocking entry until new inhabitants move in.

Hmm, this is a good point but I guess that's how it may go. It will be possible but the idea I have for it will make sure no-one says it's "bugged" and it will still be very, very hard. Also, there will be loads and loads of other smaller goodies in other parts of the labyrinth so, hopefully, that should keep people in there.

Overall.. yes it could go horribly wrong but then again... it may be a fantastic success. There will always be complaints and moans but that can be dealt with. I'm gonna try at least.

first of all, this is not "a quest" or "this quest", these are guidelines for what i think all quests on graal should be like.

unless 40 some people manage to stick together in a small group, they wouldn't all make it. EXTREMELY slim chance any group would find a way to the boss on their first try before dying somehow anyway

and also, quests like these would be uploaded secretly. It's up to the players to find them. there wouldn't be any big news posts
