Even if that were true, the credit would go to Australia as we are the original inventors of the game. So 'Pfft' to you.

I don't know about you, but I find nothing entertaining about a field of big men throwing around an elongated ball, made of "pigskin" in a stadium with astroturf.

Ah. I wouldn't know either way. I'm not too big on sports. But I'll take your word for it.

It's not fun being one of the guys throwing the ball, it's fun being the lineman that slams into a guy in front of him and starts a shoving match. It's the one sport where you can beat somebody up and not get in trouble for it.

Pff, sure, nice statement considering that pretty much the aim of American football is to run across a line with the ball. Where the English use skill and finesse to get the ball around an opposing player, Americans just grab it and try to ram through them. There's a reason why American football is only enjoyed by Americans: No other nation is obligated by ownership to pretend to like it.

The ONLY two sports I actually like are Soccer (English football ), and Hockey. Because you do need a degree of skill to play them, and Hockey's fun because I always lunge for the ball and land on the ground.

because for many many many people,
school and sleeping ARE the same thing.

Anyway I like soccer kinda, Hockey, Baseball, and American footbal.

BTW I dont know about Australian football,
but the rabbi at my orthodox synagogue is australian,
and his brother owns an Australian football team,
and they were in the champiosnhip,
and the championship was on sabbath,
so he wasnt allowed to make any profit off the championship game lol.

Too damn many people overlook the linemen and the practice they must do. It's not simply ramming people. You have to be at the right place at the right time to block the defence and clear a path for your QB. Not all plays do linemen just ram a person, some may require them to take a 90 degree turn, move back in a U shape, or even step back. If you never played American football you have no business insulting it. Training is much more rigorous.
When I get out of the stance and block someone, it takes the same "skill and finesse" to exert as much of their momentum as humanly possible into driving their opponent back and to get as much control to stop him from resisting or from driving you back.
It's like a circus act, it looks easy, but it takes a lot of practice, and that's why I play it, I like the challenge of playing a sport where I do not just have to increase agility to be better, I have to practice the plays and lift weights.

That sounds about as complicated as walking down a street.

Inherently? Don't make stupid statements; the training is as rigorous as the players want to make it, regardless of the sport.

Mm-hmm. I very much doubt it. Throwing yourself into a person doesn't require skill, only weight and muscle.

And yet increasing bulk isn't the same thing as increasing skill. You can beef yourself up as much as you like even if you're completely untalented, but the ability to actually control a ball like good footballers do? That's something you have to be born with. The fine precision exhibited in English football does indeed make the American version look like a circus act - a bunch of clumsy clowns running around making people laugh.

It takes skill to control the person and take him where you want him to go while he's trying to get you out of his way to go to the quarterback. Have you ever seen the players practice, coaches have to nag about even the smallest mistake because the smallest mistake can ruin the play. There are a lot of small details about every play. You have to know what step to take, the snap count, and who you're gonna hit, it's not just simply plowing into the person in front of you. You have to get your hands in the right place, take small steps, and keep your feet as close to the ground as you can when you step. Any small error can spell disaster. You have to get your hands in the right place in a matter of seconds, and if you need to go somewhere rather than blocking, you gotta get there fast because your quarterback is going to follow you. Whenever I read your comments, I know that they are coming from an idiot who knows nothing about the sport and doesn't play any sport. The idiots watching a game only see 2 people ram each other, but the linemen that hit each other know much more is involved than just strength, one could drive back a stronger person if they do what they need to in order to gain control. [sarcasm] But who am I to say it involves more than just hitting someone, I'm only the athlete who practices 5 days a week and hears the coach telling everyone about how they messed up with one of the smallest details involved in blocking someone. [/sarcasm]

[/sarcasm]
Ah, so you have to ram someone at the right place, right time and right angle eh?

Oh, and I'm sure that Soccer is "just a bunch of idiots running around like chickens w/ thier heads cut off kicking a ball around.", as you said.
Uh huh, when if you hit the ball ONE GODDAMN centimeter (no, I'm not going to convert it into inches, you fools) off, YOU CAN STUFF THE PLAY. Yeah, suuuuure, just kicking a ball around. Whatever, ****head. Trust me, I've played Soccer for about two years.

I second that statement, I used to play soccer as well.

Jeebus, have you ever even SEEN good English football? I have, and although I hate the sport, I can't help but be amazed at the incredible control the players have. They can kick a ball into a space barely bigger than the ball itself from 25 metres away. And by comparison, you think your people are skilled just because they can ram a person in some superspecial way? Pah.

Hey, you're being an idiot again. THIS IS THE SAME FOR ANY GAME. The intensity of the training is dependent only on the players and the coaches, not the sport in which they are training.

Uh-huh. I'll answer this in a second.

Oh, an idiot? That's strange, because it seems to me that I probably have an IQ twice as high as yours, you stupid person.

And you say that only people who play the game can say how much skill it takes. Doesn't that seem convenient? I mean, if you watch English football, you can see the skill in everything the players do, but in your sport it's all hidden away from observers? Is anybody else thinking something along the lines of "Hey, I bet it doesn't take any skill at all, I bet they're just saying it does to make their sport look good"?

Oh, okay, so now everybody who doesn't play the game is an idiot. Great blanket statement there.

And you've spent as long playing English football to make a comparison? Or did you just find it too difficult and resort to playing what is effectively an aggressive game of catch? Anybody who plays a sport will say that it takes skill, the only true judges are those who've played both the sports that are to be compared, or those who've played neither.
