3D File Support?

Graal should support .x files.

.x files are basicly, from what I think I know, the simplest file to map...D3D is built for it I do believe. Of course, you could make it work with any other file format, but .x is the easiest...

They can contain models for various things, but what I would want them for is for character sprites. That way you could rotate and do every direct with just one thing. Would make things alot easier...

I'm pretty ignorant with this stuff, so this is only what I think I know.

Well, since Graal2002 levels are already 3D, I think Stefan can advance on it a little more. X files would be cool! Have your character's be X files and be able to rotate the map camera...

x files would probably be harder and longer to make than gifs pngs or mngs...

It is supporting x files (if you know how to )
At least I have used that one year ago to
test the 3D stuff and then saw that it can
easily be used for supporting light effects.
Problem is that a lot of people cannot use
Direct3D, so they wouldn't see it :/
(i could post a screenshot of it here?)

Stefan if possible please give me information on how to create levels and things for Graal 3D since I want to make a really nice cheesy level in it (I am not kidding, I like the simplicity)
Find Doga, use Doga to make levels.
You have to save the files under a certain value though... I can't remember it though
But if you ask Dante about Graal3D, he'll tell you to make levels for beta3 :o

Post screenshot! Graal already has .X support? Interesting...... Hidden command? Or just create NPC with a .X file as its graphic. Heh.

Normally you can import textures to the level when
you make some v3 level, so you could take the v2
textures. Also Dante or Geshtar made nice v3 player
modells

It looks awsome. Why are these things not in graal? Will they be in 2002? Is 2002 actually going to be more 3dish? The screenshots I have seen don't show it, if so.

So, you ever gonna tell us how to? I tried, but couldn't figure it out. I even searched the Graal.exe for new commands (there were a few), but no luck. Does Graal 2.1 really support .X files, or is it some later version?

Impressive...if that really was a 3D .x file being read in graal (not just an image making the illusion of a 3D model) then I would MUCH appreciate knowing how to do that. Only down side is people without D3D cards won't be able to see that...but, then again, what game doesn't require 3D cards? (newer games) Of course, many of those uses OpenGL, but anyhow...

There is no npc script command for it,
i have written like 10 lines to load the
bmp and to output a 3d box with the
bmp as texture and a light. It's quite
simple to do it and it's fast
(drawing transparent images with DirectDraw
is quite slow, but with Direct3D you can draw
several big transparent images and still get
150 fps on my P300@450).
It would be interesting what gfx cards people
have, but I fear like 50% have cards that are too
old or cannot 3D or are quite limited (like older
voodoos). If we would do everything / most
stuff with direct3d (or opengl) it would give us
more possibilities and it would be much faster,
on the other hand many people couldn't play then.

About Graal3D: The main problem for stopping it
was that there were not good tools for making nice
player models and npcs and stuff (yes there are
editors like milkshape3d but it's not really easy to use
it and make nice animations). Don't know if that has
changed yet.
It might be better if we don't care so much about the
technique, but make the game better, like doing
good fighting and such stuff, that is what the plan of
Graal2002 is. Nice (3D-)gfx is good, but after some
time you don't really care about the gfx anyway,
then you see the game more like a help for
'opening the phantasy'

Oh yes, I agree completely. I truely care not for gfx in the RPG genre. But, the reason this interested me was simple because of the time reduction...instead of 4 angles, you would need only one. Once you have a model, the animation wouldn't be that hard, and it would be consistent in every direction.

Not only that, but you could make some really nice effects...think of the possibilities with aiming a bow, and such! You could make a 8 directional movement, and with aiming you could make it so you hold the button, and the character can rotate to shoot. That could go for magic.

So many things could be done...

All I'm saying is you should at least make the features, and let at least some PWs work on things. I know I am a person who would be willing to use those features, make every character in 3D, and make a server using 3D features...with those resources I am confident I could make something everyone can enjoy...even without them I think I could.

Consider adding it, it would be very useful.
