Wow, before zhagnal/fighting pick had only two votes (icluding mine) and now, only a bit afer I posted this, it has doubled! I wonder what people like about those? :P Anyone wanna say?
Cutlass are nice. I don't find them very appealing, though. Just seems kind of bland to me!

I think the Halberds (pikes were good). It's such a simple weapon yet so effective against all sorts of calvary. Just stick your weapon out and your good to go

I also like longbows

Awesome thread! =D

Well I own two blowguns and afew knifes, and those are a lot of fun. I have used throwing knifes and throwing axes before, and those are fun but hard to be accurate with.
The blowgun would be my favorite [b]OLD[b] weapon, even though its not up there... it is very accurate and stealty.

But I would much rather pilot a bomber then run into hostile teritory with a blowgun...

I think you mean you're an anti-socialite, not an anti-socialist, godSpeed.

Blow guns are indeed quite a unique weapon. I find them quite classy, but there's only a certain breed of people who can pull that off, and I'm not one of them. But, anyway, it's not up there because this includes only melee weapons.

The weapon doesn't make the man.

Instead of learning how to use a weapon, it would be better to learn how to disarm someone that has a weapon and beat them with no weapons.. I also found it funny how a lot of people in this thread speak like they are ninja's or 3rd degree black belts.

Taking martial arts classes isn't going to help you much if someone jumps you while walking down the street.. The best kind of martial arts classes are the street smart kind..

Because in a real battle, your enemy isn't going to stand there and let you hit them, and 99.9999% of the time they aren't going to fight you martial arts style. They are going to charge at you and knock the crap out of you.

The first person here to tell me what you would do if someone was running at you, was twice your size, and neither of you had weapons, gets 100g

(and the area around you is open and flat, and it's daytime, and he is coming at you like he a rhino)

Well, gee, Koni, they may talk like they're 3rd dan bujinkan ninja, but you're talking like you're an experienced "Street tough!"

If It were me, I'd run!

Hey, that's cool, Stefan likes Bamboo sticks and spears! You can tell a lot about a man by the weapons that appeal to him, I think.

I don't know anymore what I like. The Kusarigama is nice, but I also like many different swords now... oh, the uncertainty.

I'm not experienced in it, but I do know what would be the best thing to do in that situation.. I'm not super ninja with dozens of weapons and trained to kill

all I can do is basically twirling and catching... I can juggle knives pretty good.

i would have to stick with axes as a scot when i see 13th century (scotland) war films. i get an odrenoline rush it is like wow blood shed but a double handed axe is very deadly but i would prefere 1 throwing axe and 1 hand axe.
Then i would put my kilt on and kill some english ( this is after i watch braveheart the film of course even although half the stuff in the film is untrue)

Answer to Koni's Question: Start running until the aggressor catches up, throw my foot back as a hard as I can into their stomache/crotche, then just start punching them in the face and when they hit the ground, start kicking. After the kicking gets boring, deliver a boot to the throat then run!

I have never tried it to this extent, but I have done most of the things in there!

dante if you lived in scotland you would probably have been brainwashed by the history classes we had in high school and i know it is daft now a days but scotland is still a very patriototic (sp?) country against our closest neighbours.
kilts are very warm in the winter and cool in the summer and are very dressy for weddings.
one last thing if you like big strong heavy 2 handed swords and you ever come to scotland go to the wallace monument at striling
the sword is about 4-5th long it is massive
and i love axes as one good swipe from a two handed axe can take a head clean of the persons shoulders

Of course m16 isn't an option, these are melee weapons.

katana are nice, but I think they're a little too thick and heavy. I like a nice thin shikamidzue blade is more my taste, and very passive when out of use.

as i thought. as far as weapons go, i am more of an expert on early to modern firearms as opposed to old fashioned bladed and blunt weapons.

i am very much in love with swordplay, though, and I love to play with sticks and the occasional pole or construction pipe.

okay time to answer my question..

if someone charged at you full force you could do one of two things:

1. dodge to the right or left of it and throw up your knee into their stomach, proceeded by your elbow into their back

2. dodge to the right or left and kick them in the middle of the back or back of the knee as they pass

The reason anything else wouldn't work is because when you got a guy coming at you that is twice your size at full speed, punching or kicking him head on isn't going to stop him.. it might hurt him, but it will just piss them off even more as they continue to fall onto you beating you senselessly

If you aren't able to dodge there is only one other move which is the trickiest, and that would be to grab their upper body, roll back, and flip them right over.

It's all about the momentum

I don't think you really know what you're talking about, Koni. There are hundreds of ways to avert an oncoming opponent, and I don't think you have the authority to say that those are the only two ways possible, and only you know them.

Yes, this is a long thread. But, back to weapons! How about hammers? Those germans made some pretty nice ones, ey? Too bad people don't fight with rapiers anymore! I think nothing would be better!

Kaimetsu, I think the best weapon to modify unarmed martial arts technique is the tonfa!

Now why didn't I think of that before?

I think it's be cool to fight with a kama in one hand and a tonfa in the other! I'd do it, and be "The astute farming samurai."

Do you think weapons from Western society could beat those of Eastern?
Western- Europe
Eastern- Asia

The weapons themselves can't win or lose either way. Saying some melee weapons are better than others is a lost cause, I say. Sure, a well crafted broadsword, to give a basic example, may be better than a poorly crafted or poorly balanced one. But even a "bad" balance may serve some purpose, facilitating a different kind of swing. They're apples and oranges, I think. All weapons were good, in their own way.

Besides, Asia and Europe both had so many different kinds of weapons it would be impossible to compare them collectively.

I, sadly, left off one of the best choices- BIG swords. Lots of people like those. Too bad I couldn't have more than 10 choices!

And, Dante posted on the boards, which means he was not abducted by a flying Pizza like i had suspected :P
Anyway the kama is a very great weapon. Dante i suggest you get a book called "Secrets of The Samurai." It is like thicker then the 4th harry potter book (well i needed some comparison:P) and it is an extensive, and i mean very extensive, overview of bujitsu, i.e. martial arts, all of the types of bujitsu, weapons, and things like social status and anything possibly related. LOL theres one page that is filled completely with just different arrowhead designs. Anyway I like the Kama, which was often used by farmers, because during the Tokugawa (sp?) period, the lower peasantry classes were forbidden from carrying a sword,
they often had to innovatively use their tools as weapons.
Anyway.. so i like the Kama..
what else do i like,
well i like virtually all of the weapons utilized by the Samurai but i also especially like the Naganita.
