New Player Tutorial Suggestions

Hey all,

We're looking to create a tutorial to help newer players get on their feet in Era. I was wondering what troubles you all had as new players and what you think might be helpful in this tutorial for a new player to Era. All suggestions are appreciated!

Step 1: Get someone who is actually experienced in teaching players how to play the game.

Step 2: Make that information presentable in a way that they can understand without thinking "How does this make sense at all?"

The PRs teach players how to play the game every day!

probably the main thing would be: how to earn money! else you could tell them how to open the main menues, when you can get more HP and such

if you're a new player, you wanna know how to type, move, and use items.

everything else comes later because it's outside of the core basics. once you figure out the bare minimum (graal isn't exactly a complex game to pick up and play...lol) you pretty much get the rest.

Not sure if the greatest tutorial ever could do that.

Anyways, we've begun the tutorial and I don't expect it will take too long to complete it. We're going over the basics, q-menu, equipping items, dropping items, the trade/lending systems, the jobs, and sparring. Also going to include potions, hotkeys, and strafe.

It might be worth explaining the job system, I had issues working out which job was most profitable over a period of time.

u should do 5minutes of instructions where the new player can see an npc working/pking/opening doors and doing all this basic stuff
then the new player starts a quest against bots which are initially very weak and gradually become more decent (but never very good, so the noobie actually thinks he has a chance to do good on era and he'll get addicted). this "quest" can only be completed once and awards a few mystery coins to motivate these new players

Yes, find a way to get them addicted, that's the only way we will ever get more players! (no sarcasm intended)

Quests are nice as long as they work well, the NPCs always update and bug out when there's a second player.

Weird how they never bug for me... ? If you're the second player you might see the npc not moving and see random bullets flying everywhere, simply fire your gun at the NPC and you should see it moving afterwards.

For me, earning money, knowing where to buy decent guns without having to trade, and yea thats it. I kind of got annoyed with the pk though since everyone seems to have body armour and like 200 health which made it kind of hard for me and my ak47 to kill anyone. And the fact everyone seems to run 3x as fast as me x.x

Also how to set colours like /setskin and how to change heads/bodies. Troubled me when i first tried pc

There were too many glitches (serverside-clientside issues) involved with the original system, and someone came up with a cute idea for the tutorial which would eliminate the issues.

That sounds like an issue you could fix.

They re-target to who ever updates them last. If you run in start killing them,(yes seeing random bullets everywhere) then I come and damage them (or certain area where they update) the'll ignore who they were attacking and attack the new person.

I second that Blue, I was looking at Hachi's code a while back and my mouth just dropped... It's the most confusing thing I've ever seen, it's a rubik's cube that fights back.

Hack fix, then. If they get fixed upon being shot, shoot some invisible projectiles at them when you enter the level.

I thought the current issue with the baddies is not everyone can see them working at once?

From what I've seen, as long as everyone hits them or they "update" to all the the players then they can see where they actually are..

Is it just me or does everyone seem to be invincible to my bullets, or is that just because they have some kind of armour on?

What do you mean?

You shoot people (blood is showing) but they are not taking damage at all? Probably because the PK system is built the way it is, clientside etc. So if you dodged the bullet on (YOUR) screen, you will NOT take any damage.

Even if it looks like you took the bullet for the person that was shooting at you and the other way around.

They see the same thing when shooting you, so it's a two way street for the most part.

I would just like everyone to know that I'm currently working on a new tutorial system, any suggestions are welcome. Things are moving along very nicely and I will allow beta testers to give me suggestions (typos, things that could be done better, etc) soon.

TO GET ANY GOOD GUN ON ERA U WILL HAVE TO WORK FOR HOURS AND HOURS NON STOP TO GET ANYTHING TO HAVE A CHANCE IN COMPETING with players and get in the gangs if u can not do this then please log off This server is no where ready for a noob friendly server for new players to play
that and this server has alot of lag so if it freezes or having hard time in mining or getting into friends houses please do not be alarm its the server not ur computer
