Jak comes from another end of the spectrum. Jak and Daxter presented something new and unique. It was a refreshing romp through something original, and never before seen in that territory. It was not a blatant mirror of another consoles major players, as Crash was. It was not long overstuffed bandwagon. It was special. It was a gem. And it rapidly denerated into another run of the mill, grim 'n gritty shootan fest. Whatever demographic that franchise appeals to now is one that rots at the bottom of a gutter, accepting any barbaric and half polished idea that comes their way, as they've been so starved for any sort of stimulus that even the lowest common denominator would satisfy them.
Uncharted is still Uncharted.

Crash and Mario 64 are two completely different games-- they can't be compared to eachother.
Sonic never had a 3D platformer release on the Saturn, the Dreamcast is a different generation and therefore they cannot be compared.
Crash is linear, Mario 64 isn't.
Crash was the first true linear 3D platformer, and the best on the playstation.
Also, when Naughty Dog needed funding, they made a contract with Universal that the Crash franchise was theirs, hence why the franchise got gradually reduced to ****-- same applies to Insomniac with Spyro.
The first Jak game was amazing. Jak 2 was fun too
because it was different, but Jak 3 was bland and more of the same.
All of the Uncharted games are awesome, but the series got progressively better.
