Conversions of stef#.mid to .mp3

Well, I've undertaken a task, simple one, but one I think should shared and commented/criticize if need be.

I'm converting all the stef#.mid to the mp3 format. Since .mid may sound a little different on each computer, I think it's time to make them sound the same. I'm following a simple set of guidelines to help me through this too.

GUIDELINES:
  • Will not go below 128kbs bit rate, still will try to keep it as small as possible
  • Must sound similar to original file.

EDIT:I will be doing both MP3 and OGG files.

I'll periodically update this thread when I have converted more files but here is

Stef1.mid in mp3 format

The problem with solely using MP3s or OGG for me is simply their sheer filesize having to download, for the less fortunate this can take a while but even for most people there'd likely be a delay the first time it is played.

The way I have it setup on Classic is to play Midis by default but there's an option for players to enable MP3s (if not turn music off altogether), though there are only a select few converted mainly where they have been used as part of content or playback varies more highly as opposed to all of them, I also use a scripted preloader that downloads them beforehand within a level or 2 before the first location you can expect them to be played when the option is enabled.

Somewhat true. Most players don't use dial up, but there are the few exceptions. Simply making the files a required download using GUPD Packages, should remedy any of those other problems problem.

ANywho, I have kept most of the them under 1MB, except for 9 which are under 2MB, and two others(stef61,stef63) which are still under 3MB and destiny.mid turned out to be 3.53MB

Here are the MP3's. OGG's will be uploaded shortly.

I have this done for all the midis, but if we're talking roughly 1 megabyte for each different MP3 that's potentially an annoyingly long waiting time on top of other files downloaded through GUPD if forced, I do however use an optional package for it.

(Btw Destiny.mid is from Super Metroid)

did not know that. What area is it at?

I just wish the GUPD could be run in the background.

It's within Brinstar, place with the red/orange walls that leads to Norfair iirc.
