RC Button new usage ideas
Soon the "level list" of the npcserver will be removed. Instead of keeping a level list it will load levels on demand. It will also load any dbnpc instead of first checking if the level is in the level list (which caused some problems before). Of course the level of the dbnpc still needs to exist.

This has mainly been done to reduce the memory usage and increase the startup speed. Gmaps are still preloaded though.

Since the level list feature will be completely removed we now have a button in the RC without any use. Instead of editing the level list it could be changed to edit some other file or configuration. Eventually it could be used for editing server comments or so and replace the server option comments. Any other ideas about this?

Would be pretty nice if you could access the level editor through RC, I would imagine it would make the creation of levels a bit more convenient, and it would also promote there being a level editor since currently the tools are all separate.

It was just a sketch, I haven't implemented it yet. Some stuff in there like nick completion would require some knowledge from the server. Shouldn't be too difficult though.

Instead you could just make Scripted RC a lot better. Personally I'd love to use scripted rc instead. I'd love all the tools to be integrated into the client for convenience, but they just don't work nearly as well as the external tools.

I'd love to have an RC that we can extend with script, and add features. Currently I've found that the only thing that's really unbearable is the multi-line/script editor.

I love the mock ups, but that's a really poor layout. Does anyone really need to know in size 45pt font that it's a "Remote Control"?

RC with "GUI" disabled is pretty bad ass, but there's definitely room on it for some quick-read statistics / variables.

A level list viewer which displays a list of levels which contain script errors so you can easily pick them off one by one.

A discussion group for admins, something like a mini forum but for the admins ie categories include ideas, problems, suggestions etc (maybe for the whole of Graal not just one server)

can't think of any more, sorry. These idea's are pretty boring too.

The way that RC is laid out right now is good, I wouldn't say it needs much revising.

I actually thought the giant remote control label was actually a pretty liberal step down from the enormous picture thing that is usually on the top. I'll tone it down though.


The idea behind the built-in playerlist was to provide a place to glance at to just see an overview of what's going on in terms of players. Wasn't sure how I was going to work the "more" yet. Was also contemplating doing some filtering on the list on the left, in-place... but again haven't thought that out. It's possible that I may just scrap it if it isn't useful enough.

Another idea is that if you are staff you can automatically just access RC stuff in your normal playerlist... would be fine now that v6 makes everything scripted.


And, yes, I just dropped a gradient there because I didn't feel like doing anything more and it looked fine for the time being. The reason for the screenshot was to show the menu layout.



To be honest, I lost the PSD months ago in a power outage so I'd be redoing it anyways.

Oh Stefan, I don't wish to bug you with other desired things(I don't want to turn you off from making this change, but while you're in there...), but something that REALLY bug me with RC right now:
1) Scripts need a refresh button. It's frustrating to have to constantly close and open scripts that someone else is working on to see the changes they have made.
2) "Edit as text" in the file browser shouldn't close the file when it's saved. I use it for editing levels and scripts in levels that contain layers as it's easier, and having to constantly open the level as text to work on the script is annoying. Especially since the size of the window reverts to default(hard to script in a tiny window!).

Just double click it to edit it with Wordpad (or some other text editor).

Except the times that I need to edit it as text is a rarity. I more often than not want to edit it in the level editor.

Oh... I always use Notepad for levels so I have it as the default program You might be able to just open it from the temp folder and then edit it with notepad.

I've suggested a system not dissimilar to a revision history accessible for scripts, but I had a very limited response.
