Bans should display the reason

and not a generic reason. Right now, when you try to log on a server you're banned on, it just shows you a reason like "exploiting glitches in the game client" rather than the actual reason entered by staff.

It'd be a lot more informative if it showed the actual reason.

Indeed, the ability to do this in the past was much better. I believe it would be better to permit us to set specific reasons again. Only Administrators should have the right to ban on servers, anyway.

agreed.

it's kinda dumb that you may be banned for "event interruption" when the real reason is completely different, and that option was only selected because it's the shortest ban time. it really gives the wrong impression on the player that was banned.

Well they could just add more specific ban reasons, I've learned the players will manipulate your reasoning to the fullest in attempt to make you look bad.

The only problem I can see with allowing us to put in our own reasoning, is all the stupid/bad ban reasons.

I.e: "You are banned because: u r stupid and i dun liek u - some nub"

regardless of the stupidity that people will put into ban messages, it's extremely convenient to be able to create your own ban message. if anyone puts something offensive or vulgar in the ban message I'm sure globals will take care of it.

Only if it's classic or gold and the person complains though, I've got a huge ban history but have only been banned for serious 2 times

Or just make the preselected ban reason optional so you could choose one or enter the amount of days on your own.

We already leave a reason, and we already just get players either logging on guest accounts or PMing us from other servers asking us the real reason.

You could be banned for "Severely abusing a glitch resulting in a server rollback due to a spawned $11mil", yet it would say you scammed an account, which makes totally no sense.

I got an interesting PM from someone who was banned for sexual harassment once (totally unrelated to sexual harassment)

They can still ban you for that. It just won't say that as the reason.

This whole predefined thing doesn't change anything because if someone is going to ban you, they're is going to ban you -- whether it's listed there or not. They're just going to pick the reason with the time closest to what they desire.

I agree, but i can understand why they do it. As long as the player gets a "general" idea, because if you have the real technical reason they may not understand it, thus causing more problems. But yes, I agree and hope it happens.

Why not just have the message that comes up when trying to connect to a server you're banned on include both "Ban type" AND the "Reason" fields?

Quote:

Reason: BAN TYPE

Yeah, I pretty much agree with DuBsTeRmAn, unless it is a corrupt staff banning people... Then the person knows good-N-well what he/she's done....They can play stupid like "What!? I didn't interupt an event!!" or they can stfu ...Lets worry more about the important stuff like reviving this decaying game.

Not really. Not every ban is justified nor always understood. There are many times players may encounter some bannable reasons without ever honestly being aware. Certain windows being opened will trigger a warning to staff who may automatically ban. Some staff will ban without a good reason or reason at all, and while their reason may be a lie, at least you can see if you actually did something wrong or if they're just lying. There are many ways this would be needed.

Not to mention the predefined lists do not cover all circumstances, so staff will just use whatever reason best fits their time they want to ban, leaving the banned-one going, "WTF... I didn't interrupt an event!!!".

This is something that I'm surprised isn't commonsense. The fact that this is currently the system creates more problems than it solves, possibly save for your more serious offenses.

Well in that case there still is the ''Support Center'' where they could sumbit a ticket and ask for the reason of the ban.

if staff were able to include their own ban messages there would be a lot less support tickets regarding one's ban reason. less support tickets is less stress on the PWAs which makes them do their job better.

if you're going to add more pre-defined ban reasons you should at least separate ban reasons from ban time. that's the whole reason why banning is a mess because there may be a certain amount time that a staff member wants to ban a player, but that time is linked with a ban reason which in no way relate to what the player did.

You could display both, but I think just displaying the comments would be best; the actual "reason" selected from the list is also almost always inaccurate.

If you add more reasons, then let us choose the time, or the same thing will happen now. An extreme case of something sometimes happens that warrants a longer ban than the list in RC thinks it should be.

That would just waste the PWAs time.

Detach the ban reasons from the amount of time given. People often place fault reasons just so that they can give an appropriate time for the 'crime' that has been done; that is the problem with the current system. A few more additional generic reasons for receiving a ban wouldn't hurt either.

Or simply allow a custom reason and a separate comment. That way staff can appropriately give what information the player needs, and staff can get all the additional info needed as well.

I don't think it really matters what reason is presented to them, they're just going to try and manipulate it like they do now, and disabling global pm to RC works in helping ignore them too.

But then theirs those who really don't why they are banned. When i was banned on UN along time ago it didn't say why and i didn't know why. And for some reason staff (on any sever) tend to ignore global messages so you can't figure out why your banned.
