new GP system

Okay guys.

Seriously, what the hell happened?

Back in the day, Era used to have (Era Police). We had jailors. That was it. We could request bans. That too, but that's it.

We didn't get warp abilities, staff recognition, or any of the other pomp and frills the current GPs enjoy. We didn't get :hide or anything like that. We had to know how to ACT street. We had to blend in with the crowd, actually take the time to fashion a disguise, etc.

Anyways, I'm rambling on. GPs are unbalanced. There's no battle amongst the GPs anymore, they can just hide, warp, summon, and ban with reckless abandon. There's no work involved!

Here is my proposition:
Change GP to PI. No, not Panther International. Private Investigator. Yes, make GPs into a business. For a hefty fee, you can hire a Private Investigator to go out on a case, such as the Case of Maverick's Missing Piano. Prices would vary depending on the scope of the case, and would be charged at an hourly rate. This would discourage people from lying about losing items and such, because they'd be losing money. And if they can't afford to hire a PI to help them out, chances are they'd be better off quitting anyways.

The Private Investigator gets the following items: Access to logs, and a car that can follow other cars at safe distances to as not to arouse suspicion. If they're self-respecting, they would also be smoking a cigar/cigarette at all times. But that's making this sound like this is a joke, which I can certainly assure you:
It's not.

They'd have to use their wits, their senses. Collect data, analyze evidence, formulate conclusions. It'd be great. They'd also get paid, so they wouldn't have the temptation to spawn items with reckless abandon. They'd also bond with the players faster, because their livelihood DEPENDS on the player. They wouldn't be disconnected machines floating up on their lofty Staff section of the player list. They'd learn street terms, know prices, and learn which players are easily manipulated.

Anyways. The PI could of course choose to help the client or reject their case. They also could lie about anything in the case such as "I just can't your piano anywhere, I need my fee now..." or "No, your wife actually is just going to DD, stop being so paranoid." Any good PI knows that making money is more important than solving cases.

It'd make the system dynamic, and keep players guessing. Moderate RPing would be required for this to work, but I think we could ask that of the population.

It needs a bit of work, but right now GPs are unbalanced and there's no fun left in the game for rule-breakers and criminal scum (Which we're all supposed to technically be on Era.) when they can hide, warp, summon, spy, etc.

Feel free to leave feedback and add any additional ideas you might have, this idea still has a long way to go. Thanks!

LOL. Has to be a joke because it is the most asinine idea I have read in quite some time.

It was interesting and entertaining to read though.

Oh and why are you using your other account for this thread?

Hide IS essential for a GP to do their job. No one scams in front of a GP... Therefore hide is useful to watch. Using a disguise works on newbies, as it is what i'd do occasionally, but most people will right click you at some point and be like "Oh man its a GP!"

Making the GP position a business equals corruption. That's all there is to it.

If a person in PI scams, they'd be found out fast enough, and then they'd never ever get business.

And in response to Deo: I like this join date better. D:

I guess the main thing I'm trying to fix is the unfair advantage a GP has versus a cheater.

Don't get caught up in details of this idea, let's just talk about ways to make it fair for the cheater again.

I mean, seriously, logs, warps, hiding abilities...it's absurd. Every good game has balance, and this is like pitting dual handguns with 5 second freeze against a metal storm.

Yeah man get rid of jail commands/ban commands and have GP's chase after scammers with handcuffs by hand. What could possibly go wrong?!

They're Graal Police, not Graal Omniscient Omnipotent Deities.

God forbid they have to do some work now and then.

Jailing/Banning players who break the rules isn't supposed to be part of Graal's gameplay.

Hell, let's make a building system and remove the LAT position while we're at it. You could have a construction company put together buildings by using materials acquired through woodcutting and mining.

Hey!

Now that's a good idea.

It'd add a whole new dimension to the gameplay. Staff shouldn't be just work, it should be fun. You could have brick laying mini-games, time A just perfectly or the mortar gets put on the brick sloppy, costing you money and causing the building to have a higher [percent] chance to fall down in the future.

It'd make people really think before making buildings.

1) It'd keep useless stupid levels from popping up, because it'd be too much work.

2) It'd help them really appreciate the ease and speed using the old tileset method brought them. It also would teach them basic architecture, which would be transferred over to real life.

I like the way you think, Crono.

Both ideas sound to me like you better start training up lawyers to handle all the lawsuits players will file against the corrupt staffers.

One fascinating point that everyone's brought up in this thread is that my system leads to corruption, as if the other system doesn't.

Any time you're drawing staff members from a player-base (ESPECIALLY one as vulgar, immature, and depraved as Era's), you're going to get corruption.

Ironically, the system in place now gives them more power than they'd have with mine.

you can't make GP a private business. You claim GP's get to much fame and such, but that'd happen with the "new GP's." And Staff are on Era to make sure it runs fine. It's like saying, "HEY, screw criminal records irl, we'll just hope for the best." You act like staff do nothing in one of your posts; your playing era right? Your able to move around and go into levels right? Thank a Era Staff member.

Wait, fame? Where did I say that?

The only thing I've been discussing is the amount of powers they get.

Which post did I say they do nothing?

Finally, I don't play Era.

You do realize this thread is satire, right?
