Music Functions for MIDIs

Music functions like isMusicPlaying(), getMusicStatus(), musiclen, musicpos, and everything does not work for MIDI files ... I was forced to convert all my 5 KB mario MIDIs to 2 MB MP3s.

It would probably be pretty hard to make some of those functions work for midi files.

Yes, but isMusicPlaying() would be pretty easy.

What the hell? Why should we move away from small files that can contain a lot of good music? Think of Mario ... those MIDIs were great, but we had to convert them to MP3s, taking the size from 5 KB to 2.5 MB for the same song.

I agree with midi's. They can contain GREAT music in very, very small size.
Saying ditch midi's for mp3 is like saying ditch pixel art for hi-res and 3D.

Problem with MIDI's is that they do not sound the same for everyone so you lose a lot of what the designer intended (on computers). It only works for consoles since everyone uses the same sound cards.

Of course, but they sound well enough. This wouldn't prevent anything such as isMusicPlaying().

MIDIs were never used to store advanced music like MP3s were. You can't compare them since they weren't ever really used for the same thing.

MP3s work on capturing sound, MIDIs keep track of when to play a certain virtual instrument.
