Graal v5.102

A new Graal version has been released to fix some problems, it runs on Windows95/98/ME again and some problems with loading files on the Games server have been fixed.

Is there some reason that each time I connect to 2K2 one of my 2K2 ganis is replaced with a cloakless version?

It redownloads a single different animation each time I log in. So right now most of my 2K2 ganis have cloaks but a few don't.

Hmmm the problem seems to be that there are still some animations bundled with the Graal.exe, although they could be removed now, will do that with the next version or eventually upload a new version soon with the same version number so that people don't need to download it if they don't care about that kingdoms problem.

What difference does it make? You can select your own community name, and Graal is being changed to work with that instead. :/

Kindly read http://forums.graalonline.com/forums...40#post1348840 and stop spamming the forums.

The difference is that the community name does not cover it. Your new account will always be Graal###### even if the community name is changed. Like stefan said.. the community name deals with your forum name and what is seen on the playerlist..and also now RC i think. How confusing is it that on the playerlist your name is your community name and when you get right clicked its graal######?

Thankfully somehow my account name has been changed from graal###### to my community name.. not sure how because everyone else still has the numbered accounts even after changing the community name. Maybe stefan just likes me coz i complain lots

Should just scrap it though..I can't find one person that actualy likes having it this way.

But you are forgetting that it solves the problem of people having to decide upon their identities the moment they register while not breaking things when they decide to. That's why the system works.

But whats the point in that? So they finally choose an account name they want and use the community name to change it.. then find out that the communtiy name doesnt affect there account name atall..

Id much rather stop and think of an account name when i register than having Graal###### all of my time on graal.

The problem I find though as a person who hosts is that the people with the graal###### have to be recorded with that and not with their community name and also pilloring them is the same. I have to have their graal###### account name and not their community name. As much as people think this isn't a problem its a big one. I am quite annoyed that I need to find out their graal###### just to pillor them (wait stefan might have fixed this..not sure) and to record them for what event they won.

Also if they usd or scam they have to be reported by their graal###### account name and not their community name.

Many systems "force" you to come up with an identity the moment you register...it's not even that hard. In fact before registering with Graal...I bet a bunch of people already have an online identity (or several) that they use for just about everything.

The PM file thing is a problem yes, can eventually do some automatic renaming of the file.
For RC we will fix some stuff soon though. The good thing with community names is that they can even be changed (you will lose your forum stuff though, but keep your graal items).

I don't see why they would have to lose anything. In my understanding, wouldn't be assigned like so...

Account Name:
  • Attributes 1
  • Attributes 2
  • Attributes 3
etc...

Graal121244:
  • displayname= "Stephen"
  • egosize= 1(1/0)
  • leetitude= "disk failure"

Thats silly, there is no reason why people can't create an account with a custom name and still have a customizable community name if they're not liking their account name as the default community name.

Remove the Graal###### scheme and keep the community name thing as a bonus.

I know if I ever need a new account for some reason I'll certainly be asking a global to make one for me rather than having some weirdo account name that I don't like.

Well at some stage we can probably make the account name not display at all. It would be a bigger help to report problems of community name usage instead of just complaining about it, we could e.g. help on servers to fix things to use community name instead of account name. The account name should only be used internally, and the nickname or community name displayed to the players.

I really don't see why you are all complaining about the numbered accounts... I like the fact that account names aren't being taken by trial members that were making almost every account name unavailable.

the whole graal###### thing, would just make for easier scamming. ex;
graal###### scams a valuable item, then changes his/her name making it impossible to find them unless you know what the EXACT numbers of the account were, or you right click everyone that walks by you. Pretty stupid move for staff, thats just encouraging people.

because i'd still like to keep track of trials, see who is who

maybe it should force them to have something like GraalTrial_theirchosennamehere while they're trials?

The most anyone has asked for (as far as I know) is that they get to create a new account name when they upgrade.

I think that would be difficult since gservers store player information by account, if you changed that on upgrade you loose what you had as a trial. That would matter with the old system but now stuff actually saves.

For the trials thing, just make it so trial accounts are destroyed after a certain amount of inactivity.

By the way, are we going to see any updates to the external RC anytime soon? I think it could use some improvement, and personally I liked the GUI type that the first RC used, this GTK+ thing is too bulky. And I was wondering if it could be made to work similar to how the Scripted RC does, using the internet version of sendText() and requestText() that way we could make our own RC and edit it to our leisure.

I'm looking for a reason to create a program with wxPython.

That's just asking for people to write their own RCs that have malicious code embedded into them, and then redistributing them so that malicious actions can be performed under someone else's account name on a server. :/

The risk was the same with Client-RC, and it was abused before, and that's part of the reason that only scripts on the login server can use Client-RC functionality now.

I was right, I knew you would be the first to state that, so just make it so the actions can only be performed under the allowed PCID, for those stupid enough to download RCs with malicious code. Basically meaning it would be mandatory for your account to be restricted by PCID for the RC thing.

You are in cuckoo land if you seriously believe that anything like this would be secure. If you provide an open protocol for someone to use, you cannot enforce which RCs can be used by which PC IDs, not to mention that Cyberjoueurs would then have to reveal the algorithm used to generate PC IDs to authenticate with the game server. That wouldn't be very secure, now, would it?

The fact of the matter is that if someone puts their username and password into an RC, and logs in from a computer that is authorised (either by IP or PC ID), then the RC can perform any of the operations that that user account has rights for. Anyone could hide malicious code into any RC that they write and send it to people or offer it as a download, and unless the user can see and understand the source code, they wouldn't know any different.

I don't see any sense in giving people the oppurtunity to create such problems. Graal is fine as it is as a proprietory system.

Ok I guess we've discussed v5.102 enough
The scripted RC will still be improved to sometime eventually replace the external RC. Also the external RC will be improved to use more the community names instead of account names.
