Graal slowing down overtime.

I remember an old thread talking about how their Graal is really slow and they fixed it by re-installing Graal into a new folder. I thought this was stupid, until I tried it myself. I had a folder from 2004-2007, Era was really slow on it between loading levels, and now I'm using the same folder I had re-installed earlier this year.

It's happening again. Era is going really slow, I get random slow downs while sparring on UN, etc. I don't really want to keep re-installing Graal every 5-6 months...specially since it's already a problem because all my levels/work is in one folder, and Graal Editor gets confused on which Graal folder to use.

CPU: AMD Athlon 3200+ XP @ stock 2.2ghz
RAM: 512GB x 2 Corsair Value DDR400
GFX: Leadtek 7600GT 256MB AGP8x
OS: Windows XP SP2

Anything that can be done, Stefan? This never used to happen on my old Graal folders before V4...maybe it's all those silly folders Graal is making instead of one big webgifs folder...

512 times 2GB RAM sticks?

1TB RAM+ is not bad at all..

It is possible that your hard drive is quite slow, so loading new graphics could slow it down. You could disable drawing head icons on the playerlist to minimize any playerlist lag.

I have a 200GB Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 8MB cache.

Recently defragged, no adware/spyware.

200GB is quite alot, and smaller hard drives are faster in most cases. Though I randomly got the same problem, especially on Era, and fixed it lately by making my Graal window smaller (1024*888 before, something around 800*600 now). The size is still okay, and I dont have any lags on Era anymore, and I have no idea why...

I've had this hard drive since 2004, no problems. It was after V4 official was released that it was being a bit slow on Era...

I play more demanding games just fine. Games such as GTA:SA which is apparently choppy if your harddrive sucks.

It's V5, it has nothing to do with the system. V5 was a mistake, and there is clearly a glitch in it that doesn't agree with some computers. Im not going to upgrade my computer, or buy a new one for this game. Fix it please. Im tired of lagging. I dont even send a mass message now, and yet I still lag like crazy. It's ridiculous.

Reminds me of Firefox' 2 memory leaks. One is a "feature", the other one was never fixed. Kind of ruins it, heh.
Well, you might be right. Some things are going wrong since v4, like the bullets on Era colliding with the level borders on the maps...

It's not V5, it's been going on since V4. Did you even read the bit where I recalled an old thread?

Crow, the bullets colliding with the level border has been around since V4 as well. They want it to be that way.

But it seems to me like we need to go back to v3. Sometimes the simple things are better.

Crow, the bullets colliding with the level border has been around since V4 as well. They want it to be that way.

I dunno about slowing down over time... but this may be related. It seems Graal doesn't seem to 'speed-up' after slowing down. If I open Graal while having other CPU hogging programs like Photoshop open, and Graal is slow because of it, if I close Photoshop, it does not help at all. I have to close Graal and open it again to get Graal working at right the speed again.

I don't think this is playerlist lag. I keep my playerlist closed and when I spar I press alt + 3 to hide the mini map...

Does Graal go through every folder in it's directory or only the ones it needs for online? Because my Graal folder's usually filled with levels and random screenshots...

Well, one time I had a file named tree.png in one of my offline map folders. It was a screenshot of some tree style I was using (a full level screenshot).

UN thought it was my tree.png file so everytime there was tree.png in a level on UN, it would show this big ass screenshot of my level meaning I couldn't even get past. Graal shouldn't be reading tree from that folder.

I know what you mean, Graal is reading a lot of folders it shouldnt. It should only read the normal "levels" folder for images, ganis and all that stuff ;o

Whatever. Obviously nothing will be done about this so I'll have to keep re-installing Graal into a new folder every 3 months just to keep Era running smooth.
