Crashing related to the game client.

I've made a thread before about problems I've had with the game client.

http://forums.graal2001.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=70899

I'm making a new one in hopes that I'll get some kind of customer support. I did pay for my account after all, so I should get some kind of help with this problem.
I want to add to the list of problems I've been having. Long PMs cause my graphic card drivers to fail causing the entire system to crash. This crashing only happens while I'm running the Graal client. I'm on an Intel based laptop (Toshiba Satellite) with integrated graphics. The graphics chip set is an Intel 82830M. I have DirectX 9.0c with the latest graphics drivers from Intel. Can I please get some support to remedy this problem.

For your first problem, it might have to do with your current XP visual styles. Check your display settings or any programs like windowsblinds if you have it running to make sure the color for an active window is set to whatever color you're wanting to see.

For the second, the only guess I can make is that other bodies are no longer downloading for you, or are missing. Check your console to see what kind of activity is going on, and also make sure that none of your Graal Folders are read-only.

As for the problems with the GUI and software updates, try removing all of the programs from your folder including the client. When you install a fresh copy of v4, it should scan your folders and find that RC and other programs are not there, and give you the option to install them.

Let me know if any of these work, and post some logs, if you will.

I don't use windowblinds or any other visual programs like that. I have the style set to classic and the color depth at 32. The problem with bodies is not due to missing files or files not downloading. I posted the log in the other thread and if you look at it, you'll see that it gives no missing file errors. Since the update, the only time the bodies mess up is when I resize the window. The no updates showing, was apparently fixed in one of the recent updates, since it stopped doing that, so that's no longer an issue. I'm just getting really tired of losing data when my graphic device drivers fail due to the Graal client.

Okay. I'll have a look in a bit. I very much doubt it's a card issue.

I'm almost positive it's not a problem with my graphics card or drivers. Many people I know with laptops and desktops say they have the same problem. I'm wondering if it isn't something to do with the chip set or something.

I don't know how pms can crash the system. Do you crash when you receive the PM or when you open it? Did you try to disable HTML/Images in PMs?

About graphics: did you try to switch to 16 bit mode? Intel cards have problems with displaying 3D effects in 32bit mode.

It does it when I open a long pm. And the pms don't contain and html, but yes I've tried disabling html. If I'm going to have to switch down to a crappy color depth, I'm not even going to bother. Other games that are 3D rendered don't do cause me any problems.

There is a program floating around that uses PMs to crash the client.

They do 3D in 32bit window mode ? I think it would be best to switch to 16 bit window mode or start in fullscreen when playing Graal.

I'm aware and the PMs are from friends, so I know it isn't that.

I don't like full screen mode because I can't see my player list. As the admin on UN, I get a lot of messages so I need to see it. Maybe if there were a scripted player list with gui windows or something, then I wouldn't mind. Honestly if I didn't have friends keeping me from quitting, I'd find another game.

Hmmm can eventually make it optional to use external or scripted playerlist

Like Skyld's scripted RC that's added to him on login? If I had that I'd definitely run in full screen mode. Scripted RC would be nice too, but UN isn't GS2 enabled yet. :[ I really don't like running in windowed mode, but I need to to be able to keep track of everything.

Normally the RC should still work, the serverlist and scripted playerlist are GS2 too and work on all servers (can't share variables with GS1 though)

Yeah, I know you can use some clientside GS2 in GS1. Pixie used .rotation and .zoom and such to do some neat things a while back. But, I figured the scripted RC and such woudn't function properly. :o So you're saying it will?

zoom, rotation, stretchx and stretchy have been added to GS1 too, that's why it is working GS2 scripts that have been added before you login to the server should normally work as normally, I have not seen problems with the scripted playerlist, profile or serverlist on GS1 servers (unholy nation, npulse etc.) yet.
One thing in the scripted RC which is not working on GS1 servers yet is viewing/changing npc flags, npc attributes and player attributes, but this is planned to be added.

Is there any chance that other tools will be integrated into the client as well? It'd be nice to see graaleditor integrated into the client so that you can open up a level (Similar to the old command where you could 'screenshot' a level.) to modify it, save it, and access it from the temp folder where you were editing it from. (Or wherever you saved it to, for that matter.)

If you still have the idea for an online editor or whatever, that's probably the best option, considering that once scripted RC is integrated, managers and LATs can upload it while still in-client, provided they have the rights.

Ah, I see.
Well, if you added the client RC and a scripted player list on login like with the Mac users, then I could run in full screen and I wouldn't have any of the problems I've been having. I switched to full screen before and didn't have any trouble, but it wasn't working for me due to not being able to keep track of player messages and RC chat as I said.

I was thinking about that as well. It would be nice.

Seriously. It'd be the closest thing to an online editor. However, a complete online editor can be a bad thing, considering that you'd have difficulties making backups in case something messes up when you modify it. Thus the temp folder idea.

Indeed. I'm all for not having to even minimize the game window. I didn't mind opening a bunch of different programs when I was running dual monitors, but now I'm stuck on this little LCD on my laptop and there's no work space. :[

Sorry for the bump, but I'm getting tired of all the problems I have with Graal. Is it going to be that hard to add client rc on login like you did for Mac users? And the same for a scripted playerlist. I don't see how the playerlist would be hard since it already exists for the client rc.

We need to add some small additional security checks before releasing the scripted RC, it should only take a few days.

All the more reason to take your time, I'm sure we can wait.

Just glad to see it's actually going to be done. Thanks Stefan. Any chance for the scripted playerlist too?
