Till Death, CG Art

Something I drew today. The meaning should be fairly self explanatory, hopefully. On a side note, this would be considered CG Art, right ?

Hmmm, according to the numbers at the top, I will think that that is how long you have to live before death? As in we're all timed or something.

Heh, we're such a bunch of pricks.

The bar code is meant to signify that we have become little more than a numbered product in the eyes of the corporate machine. The fact that it is on a skull shows that we are products from birth till death, and that it is our only authentic value in the eyes of our capitalist consumer culture. The yellow is meant to offset this by adding an element of the ridiculous. The piece is meant as a satire.

I'm of the opinion that the bar code isn't nearly evident enough, and that the idea is lost. I will probably create a montage later on, in which other elements will make the message more clear.

I generally keep away from the political art. Every dog and their cat is doing it nowadays.

I've read a lot on capitalism, consumerism, globalization, and many associated ideas. I choose to incorporate these themes into some of my designs because it pleases me, and I believe in what I think. Since I'm doing it for fun, I don't see why I shouldn't.

If you're talking about originality, well, good luck. I'm of the mind that it's more or less impossible to be original, so the fact that other people do it is of little consequence to me.

Although this book isn't specifically about any of those topics, it's interesting and enlightening. Definitely worth reading if you're interested in where we've been, as a species, and consequently where we might be headed.

War and peace in the global village - Marshall McLuhan

Neither of these books deal with any of the topics you mentioned, and deal specifically with a sociology.

I know.. I just said they don't deal with it specifically. Do you want me to list the university text books i've read on the subject ? I put those two out because they are an interesting read. And yes, a short history of progress does deal with globalization quite specifically. It's one of the main factors the author uses in his argument. And then obviously Capitalism gets drawn into the equation since it more or less goes hand in hand with globalization.

If you really want to have a discussion about this feel free to add me to msn.

A short history on Progress -> http://www.amazon.com/Short-History-.../dp/0786715472

For your entertainment, here are some of the more boring books that i've read.

Simulacra and Simulation - Jean Baudrillard
Postmodernism, or, the cultural logic of late capitalism - Fredric Jameson
The Postmodern condition: a report on knowledge - Jean-Francois Lyotard
Practices of Looking - Marita Sturken

I've also read countless journals, which helped me in the writing process of a number of essays.
Really interested ? I could send you some.

These, including "Postmodernism, or, the cultural logic of late capitalism", are all sociological books. I hope you don't consider Adbusters a informed newsletter.
