Brick wall.

I wanted to see how good of a wall I could make using only 5 colors.

Critique?

you should take the different colors and add a little texture to it.

Deal with it. Copy and paste is acceptable in a situation such as bricks. -.-

According to who o_o;?

It just looks odd having two pillars exactly alike in every detail.

Thanks, I am tired of these pixel .... who say Amagad, no copy paste for units that are repetative! Amagad, no re-colors of pre-existing images, even if they are only meant for variety's sake. -.-

Holy christ guys, he posted here asking for critique, so I gave him my critique. I'm by no means a pixel nazi and the fact that you can't take any critisizm and only accept possative feedback is childish and pathetic.

Get over yourself, all I was suggesting was that copy and pasting the two pillars is an okay time saver, but if you invested time into it to make a seperate pillar all together it would make the image that much better.

Jesus christ you're almost as bad as Elk.

It's not a critique, because graphically it's not wrong.

Who is to say that the craftsman didn't cut his bricks the same size on purpose?

You know, maybe you should go outside and put a big dent in one of your car doors, just so they won't look exactly alike.

What you are pointing out is personal preference of non-uniformity and has nothing to do with the graphics.

Whatever man, I have my opinion and I'm not going to sit here arguing with you like a child. You're right, it is my personal preference, which in turn makes it my critique.

Just because something may look better with improvements doesn't mean it's "Graphically Wrong".

I'm pretty sure Pillow Shading, although widely shunned by like every graphic maker on the planet, is technically graphically correct, but anti-aliasing and dithering looks better.

Just minor improvements, I was only trying to help, get over yourself.

You seem to think I am in some way arrogant or egotistical. I'm over myself, what makes YOU so special is what I want to know.

I never said anything made me special. I looked at your wall, I made an opinion, and I expressed that opinion in the form of a critique.

Why?

BECAUSE YOU ASKED FOR IT

It seems more along the lines that you're just trying to get an intelligence war happening with Seph. I agree with Inferno on the front and back pillar line-up thing.

It'd be a better idea to drop your argument.

*cough*

Not even a broken piece or something? Maybe some rubble or chips on the ground nearby? I mean, the last time I saw a perfect brick was... uh...

How about adding a turn or curve or something into the perspective so it doesn't just look all fake

Raelyn has a pension for laying on his back and throwing a hissy fit if someone says something negative about him. However, I'm going to have to agree with him. Considering the perspective and such, it's not a big deal for him to copy and paste.

Although I find the white is cery contrasty with the grey for some reason.

Perhaps because he's used the same white all the way around? Instead of darkening the white relative to the change in the shade of the greys?

He's following a sort of isometric style which doesn't require he apply perspective in a spacially distortive way.

It's a 1/4th isometric style, if I am not mistaken. And the shading is meant to be kept simple, I am toying around with a design idea for simple shaded objects. For instance, and it makes me sick to reference it, but similar to Runescape's non-textured colored models. I am attempting to do with pixel art what they've done with un-textured models. It's less time consuming than full-scale detail, but gets the job done enough to get the point across and in a unique graphic style.

The purpose of this style is to save developement time by allowing me to make twice as much, twice as big, and in half the time, while still keeping basic form and shading so that it's not.. well.. crappy.

Here's another quick example of the type of shading I am employing here.

I don't know why you use that awful layout that allows you to break the thread trees sporadically and without reason.

It makes more sense to me to dedicate a single post, using seperated quotes, to respond to different points than a volley of seperate posts for each point you wish to address.

Not to me.

Furthermore, you approach the dilemma that the second post I made was a good time after the first, and if I edited it into a previous post (mind you, in the wrong tree), someone who had already read my other post would have not noticed the late addition. It was a seperate comment and deserved a re-flagging of the thread so that people could see that the thread had new activity.

I don't know about you, but I don't go back and re-check posts I've already read to see if "Omg, did someone edit anything NEW into this post?". So it makes sense to post a seperate comment to ensure that it would actually be acknowledged.

Yea, I wasn't really making mention specifically to this case and I should have been more clear in that. I am moreso addressing the usage of tree structure layouts. Nearly none of the users on this forum use it, aside from a handful - I would imagine it's almost always in pieces and chopped up which leads me to wonder why you bother?

Because it's a more comfortable setting for me than a linear view.

Furthermore, it has dual functionality, because I can view it linear if I choose to simply by selecting the first post in the tree.

Why would I choose to use linear only when I can have linear or threaded at the touch of a button?

Likely because the tree is constantly broken? :P Besides, tree structure is very ugly.

I tend to disagree. While the tree structure is often broken, it's often times easier for me to keep up with. With the exception of when 10 people post off the first post even though they are commenting on something in the bottom of a tree.

The tree structure would be nice if it was the only available view, but since it's the least commonly used I think it's not worth the effort or annoying double posting for normal users.

*Shrug* There's no rule which says you can't. But let's stop this conversation. We're making too many posts on this little sub-topic.
