Move/place NPCs by pixel rather than 16 pixel tile increments

Would be nice if we could move NPCs by pixel. Perhaps holding ALT or CTRL and then dragging the NPC (and/or simply using the ARROW keys) would remove then from being attached to the grid. This would be good for levels with lots of plants like a jungle to break up the rigid feel of it.

You have no idea how much I hate putting 'x = 30.5' in an NPC.

Probably not, and perhaps pressing CTRL+ALT together would actually move it in 8 pixel increments, while simply holding CTRL would realign it to a tile grid.

So, ordinarily the NPC is on the tile grid, pressing CTRL aligns it to the tile grid even if it already is (without holding alt), pressing ALT allows you to move the NPC pixel-by pixel (using either the mouse or the keyboard arrows, and without holding CTRL), and holding CTRL+ALT allows you to move the NPC in 8 pixel increments (half-tiles).

Would be rather futile, you could:
1- adapt the image
2- simply use
Quote:
if (created){
this.xoffeset=5;
x+=#v(this.xoffset)*(1/16);
or something like that >.> It might take 2 seconds to do but so what :P..

Well, as far as I got it, the development of the current level editor is pretty much stopped since the release of v4, Stefan is probably waiting for someone to code an online level editor in GS2 so he doesn't have to do it, but that's probably not going to happen.
So either an online level editor needs to be created, or an external application, but I guess the former is going to happen sooner. You can also edit the position of the NPC directly in the .nw file, but that seems like a bit too much work.

Not so handy when making complex levels :-) but I know, thanks for the advice.

The goal of future improvements is to cut down those 2 seconds. If we never improved those "oh you could just do this it only takes 2 seconds" things, they would have definitely added up over the years.

I agree.

If we had to make graphics by using software where we had to continually define the position of something to move it between the grid, graphics wouldn't be as impressive nor successful as they are today.

Furthermore, let us have compassion on our graphic makers (level designers), whose job involves large pixels (tiles) and also objects THAT CAN EASILY be defined to move in between the grid. Likewise, if they can easily be done so, but the task of performing it is a tedious one, just making the software better will make for better levels in the future.

Making a field of daisies whereby the daises are not meant to be lined up like corn would be tedious. You have a sort of "grid" view to it. If you want to place a field of daises with some close, some far away, some semi-close, some semi-far away, etc., you would be doing some tedius manual work, and that is probably why it isn't being done.

I suppose the online level editor could be quite easily scripted to support this.

Guess why I also noted that, but as far as I know, there is no fully functionaly online level editor available at the moment.

Looks like Maniaman is working on one, though.
