hello, i have been talking to a friend about making a graal playerworld.
we want to focus on pvp action, with the game centered around combat and no grinding (ie: mining, treecutting or whatnot.).
we have designed systems for weapons, factions, chat, controlling bases will work. we have designed a fighting system that is different then any other graal world: you use the mouse to aim and shoot and move with the keyboard. there is a rate of fire limit, so you can 'charge up' your time to shoot a burst of fire, or fire more slowly but steadily.
players join one of 4 teams and enter missions areas (a level, think if the bases in era opened up to reveal a big fighting arena, like something from zones in terms of size) where they fight for dominance.

we will use a rating system to show player skill [
http://www.chess-express.com/explain2003.html ]. the basic principle is that you start off with a number as your starting rating, say 4000. whenever you kill someone, your rating increases based on what their rating is and how it compares to yours. so if you kill someone rating 5000, you will gain a lot of points (and they will lose a lot of points). if you kill someone rated 3000, you will get very few points. rating systems ensure an accurate representation of skill (if you dont understand how post and ill go into detail of their dynamics), unlike a 'kills / deaths' system.
[combat]
when you enter a level, you have about 2 seconds of invincibility (and no fire) so you wont be spawn -killed. whenever someone scores a kill, the rating they gain is added to their teams score and the dead person is warped to a weapons shop where they select new weapons. you cant kill your allies, as that would let you exploit the rating system. (maybe have no score change and have friendly fire -- it depends on how the players like it (though personally i prefer friendly fire on : D)).

you can select a primary weapon from the ordinance shop [weapons shop] buy purchasing it. you will start off with a standard weapon however, so you never have to worry about being unarmed. when someone dies, they drop their 'primary weapon' as a 'secondary weapon', meaning if:
x wields shotgun.
y wields laser rifle and pistol.
x kills y.
y drops laser rifle -- PISTOL DISSAPEARS
x picks up laser rifle.
x wields shotgun + laser rifle.
z kills x.
x drops shotgun -- LASER RIFLE DISSAPEARS
got it?
you get money based on the rating change when you kill players, and im thinking of a bounty system simliar to zones -- BUT NOTE! ADVANCEMENT IN RANK WOULD BE BASED ON RATING NOT BOUNTY -- so there wouldnt be the flaws zone has.

great! thing is, we need help! i can do some scripting, but i have no experience and lack a good feel of the language. so we need scripters, graphic editors, level editors! i could do level editing with a good tileset.. but im not good at making tilesets, so we want you!

scripters - a huge part of the game is the shoot anywhere mousefire. i feel retarded for not getting it to work, ive gotten the gscript to recognize mouse variables but it just.. wont.. shoot them.. so if you can do this, i definitely recognize your scripting ability and want you on our team. i can add the firecontrol (rateoffire) stuff later, i did get that to work.
gfx - if you can show a cool weapon idea
gfx - if you can make cool buildings, or tilesets, or backgrounds or background pieces (like trees etc) - great!
in short, we have a lot of great ideas but need people with technical skills! of course, if your with us and have suggestions about the design, we will listen to you!
