File upload filter

Stefan, can't you upload a filter on the file browser that disallows the uploading of:
  • state.png
  • sprites.png
  • pics1.png
  • any of the emoticons or default Graal images

There is no reason a server should be able to overwrite these images with their own crappy stuff. So really, there should be no reason they can even be allowed to upload a file of the same name as the above files.

There is no reason a server should be able to upload files that do not start with their servername or something, either.

On second thought, no, this is a horrible opinion and I am not sticking to it. Goddamnit.

I agree, and I also believe Graal needs a major reconstruction of the server/file structure. Stefan is worried about a few duplicate files, but we end up with those anyways. I'm more worried about how I have 50 folders in my Graal folder filled with unorganized ****.

Hardly. Everything in one folder(webgifs) is crude. It was fine way back when there were only a couple servers, and everyone shared their images(if you needed something, you went through webgifs until you found it).

Now, when there are hundreds of servers each with their own graphics, it would be a MESS and the potential for overwrite would be very high.

I would prefer a more organized structure -- a folder for each server, which then has directory very similar to the Graal one(a folder for heads, images, maps, weblevels, yada yada). All this would be done automatically by Graal, by the name of the server, instead of manually(era_xxxxxx). So if I ever want to find anything from Era, I simply open the folder and browse. I would also go as far as saying images on servers would only load from their respective folder.

It should be taken into consideration that the name of a server can change though. Should something like this be coded, we might run into some problems.

Well, either use the playerworldnumbernumber thing as a prefix, or just use the prefix transparently when downloading files, and do not have it on the actual filenames or in scripts, then.

I completely agree that the file saving system needs a better form of organization. Its growing harder to determine what images are global and what images belong to specific servers. The PWA has to investigate image theft on a regular basis and often its difficult to tell who uploaded the image first. Making all images global would make my job easier but thats being a bit selfish and lazy.

Yeah I completely agree, most people that I meet having a server don't know that sprites can be edit trough a script, so they just replace it and it then load for everyone.

For exemple the bomb sprite been edit by a server I visited, and when I went back on UN, the bomb sprite was not the classic one.

It's better to disallow to upload files having this name, or else all servers would have to upload the sprite there
