Actually, it doesn't. There's a difference between getting something the first time it's told to you and having to spend an inordinate amount of time studying it to understand it. You stated that the latter was required. Oh, and the word is "applies," by the way.

Then where does all knowledge come from, if you can't learn something on your own? I'm pretty sure you can learn "The stove is hot when it's on." without someone else having to teach it to you. Merely touching the hot stove's enough.
