If you had your own server

If you had your own server what would you name it and what would you want to have on it?
(Give your ideas for the staff to hear!) :D

Devil 12-19-2006 05:33 AM

Um.

I was going to buy one last week.

Then I thought to myself "I will probably never use it".

PrinceDark 12-19-2006 09:57 AM

I wanted to get one and build a world based on the old game Bolo from the Macintosh. Pretty neat game, look it up if you're curious.
Other than that, a playerworld with tons of bombs, explosions, pretty effects, war and lots of killing. Probably not for graal, huh?

VashX20 12-19-2006 10:30 AM

I had a sick idea of a server with a battlefield 2 touch to it with grapeling hooks, tanks, humvees, grenades, variety of guns
I also had an Idea for a FFXI type of background and maps that actually have detail and thought put into it and not just slab it all together as you go then call it a level kind of thing.:p

Galdor 12-19-2006 11:02 AM

A mix of 2d and 3d (2d chars, monsters and items and 3d ground, houses and other stuffs).
Not sure what I would name it, but something random and nice.
It would have nice Malinko musik and be kinda zelda classic-ish.

Minoc 12-19-2006 11:17 AM

The old main overworld.

That's it, right there.

Crono 12-19-2006 12:51 PM

i'd name it failure

Darlene159 12-19-2006 02:49 PM

Graalian Moon
And of course, it would be totally built to look like it were on the moon with moon creatures and everything. :D

Chicken_l33t 12-19-2006 03:06 PM

I'd probally name it Sedulous (from my friends old server) and continue with a project I started ages ago. Incorporate the old Xitami / Sedulous levels into it.

Defintially a classic server, with the old tileset and beautiful levels. Try a different style then what I did with Exodus which really had no base.

Demisis_P2P 12-19-2006 03:54 PM

It'd be cool to have a server totally based on racing. Kinda like Mario Kart but with automatic server generated races starting every few minutes. Players could place bets, buy upgrades for their vehicle, maybe even add weapons for some weapon enabled races?

It's something totally different and non-graal, but then so was Era when it came out and now Era is pretty huge and even spawned a gold server.

HoudiniMan 12-19-2006 04:12 PM

I wanted to make a server for as lag-free sparring as possible, but I always feared it was Graal's connection causing lag and not a PW's scripts :(

That would be awesome! DO IT! :D

Yes, the ideas are nice, but would you get a job on a server that's already under construction and share those ideas, therefore making that server better and able to be hosted sooner? Or do you want to make your own server and keep the ideas to yourself like many other playerworld owners, who want to control how the server gets built in their own way, disregarding other workers and possibly great ideas from fellow players because is their way or not at all?

I may be mistaken, but did classic allow just anyone to submit levels and even whole quests, and if the levels or quests were done right and actually fit in somewhere they would become a lasting part of the server? I'm hoping people would get together like that again on ONE single server, and instead of conflicting with each other, try to figure out a comprimise when it comes to what will be on that server, and share the ideas with the whole group and make those ideas real.

Make it, that'd be pretty cool :)

Of course, you know what I'd have. :p
Something that brings back the old feel of Graal, and improves upon it.
Classic, lots of classic :D

That's why you hire people to do it for you. =D

I'd actually be interested if I wasn't working for...like 3 or 4 servers already...I lose track...

Except:

1) I don't have time, and
2) There are not too many people who will work for me.

I already managed N-Pulse. Good staff are hard to find.

Inverness 12-19-2006 10:15 PM

I'd continue my Arkland RP project. The features are too advanced to put on Aeon efficiently without erasing just about everything else. Or else it would be all cluttered and I would have to write a bunch of scripts to disable everything else while my whole system is working, which I have no intentions of doing.

And in relation. I'd REALLY like if my Graal.net email arrived BEFORE Christmas.

VashX20 12-19-2006 10:32 PM

I wish that if there was a new server people would accept our ideas... Then we might have a good server that lasts long...

If we had people working on GFX, peeps working on weapons-shields-etc., and so on from there...Basically different divisions of people working on stuff, such as a team for weapons, a team for GFX, a team working on Gameplay testing, AND from there ON! ^^

Inverness 12-19-2006 10:46 PM

Accept what ideas? I'd be happy to :p

Any ideas that sound good :D

smirt362 12-19-2006 11:40 PM

I've had some ideas that would be pretty fun to play:

The first one would be a time travel server based around quests. The entire server would start out in a prehistoric era (dinosaurs, caveman, historical inaccuracy, etc etc) and do quests, build things, kill things, whatever...after a certain amount of time the era would shift into something else and everything that the server did as a whole (or maybe have a bunch of different branching possibilities and whatever path that the most people go down is what the outcome is in the next era) would be the result in the next era. Landscapes, flora, fauna, civilizations, technology, religion, etc etc would change base on what happened in the previous era. The process would being anew with quests and objectives in this era and then eventually the server would be thrown into a new era. The server would eventually hit a futuristic era with all their change culminating into some sort of cinematic ending once that era was over and then the era cycle would restart back at the beginning.

The next idea I had was for either a platformer or just a regular top-down view Action-RPG style server in which you defeat monsters to capture their powers into gems. Then you equip those gems or combine them to form new gems. The more you use them, the stronger they will get. For example, lets say you defeat a bomb monster and collect it's gem and equip it. Now you can throw bombs. Later you defeat an ice monster and collect it's gem. Then by combining the bomb gem and the ice gem you get an ice bomb gem that freezes things when the bombs explode.

jonnyrocks2 12-19-2006 11:56 PM

It would look like...A Compaq Presario S5000J with a sticker that says "PHAYLED!" on it over the power button. :p

Huwajux 12-20-2006 12:27 AM

VashX20 12-20-2006 01:09 AM

See, that's what I'm saying. Graal loses too many potential developers over the "All your work are belong to us" debate. If I make something for a server, then I decide to make my own server, it should still be My work for Me to use as I see fit.

And only in theory did Classic let people upload quests. That's where I was going with the Tears of Hera, but the Upload Level Submission hopper got waaaay too full, even when I built vast new areas for playerhouses, even when I found playerhouses with their insides vacant - nobody wanted to fill in a simple house in Chaotica, everyone wanted to replace Zol's Pub with their Castle to the Awesomeness of Vejita. Nobody wanted to make a quest that had to do with such plot as Classic had, nor one where you only get one more Hera at the end - it had to be a quest where you get a weapon that fires nukes in all 4 directions at once for the cost of 1 arrow, and the nukes drop goldrupees when they explode, and...and you get a fullheart and a goldsword at the end of said quest. The average graalian is (or was) a bit unreliable.

Kirby! Sign me up!

For my own part, I've got a fist-full of ideas. A platformer based on Castlevania SotN, with ganis set up so you have the rough customizability of the average 3D MMORPG...you can buy a new jacket, and that jacket (using rotation and recoloring) appears on your gani. Kinda like on Kingdoms, if you could dynamically recolor your armor and clothes on Kingdoms. Most of the world would be the nooks and crannies, the secret passageways and back exits that made Classic so much fun to explore back in the day. Sadly, that's about the extent of the Cleverness - everything else is 9 pages of Little Things, like preventing monsters from respawning while you're looking at them, economic systems, death of characters, stats, levelling, etc...

I had always thought it would be interesting to have a server where there were three factions left in a constant war with each other. There would be different town sites across the world, and at the start of the server, the factions would race to occupy these sites. To build a town, members of a faction would have to work together and gather materials to build it. Adding things like town walls, blacksmiths, stables, houses, and other such things.

Towns would have NPC guards based on the ability of the town to support an army. (Buildings in the town would determine that) So even if the town was attacked while faction members weren't around, it wouldn't immediately fall. Aside from the constant fighting and town building, players could do jobs like weapon crafting, armoring, spell research and other tasks like such. The work of the players would help the faction's army as a whole. So if there were many people crafting and selling off steel swords in a certain faction, they would be much more available in that faction's shops, and thus it would cost less to outfit that faction's army with those swords.

When a town is attacked, it can be captured. Depending on how long the battle continues, the town can suffer damage to buildings and farmland which will need to be repaired.

If one faction loses control of all of its town sites, it becomes a resistance faction, and can attack towns to try to capture, but has to get its equipment from other means, like theft.

If 2 of the three factions are defeated, the winning faction is entered into the records, and the server will be started anew again, with the previous winners having some distinction on their characters.

It's a rough idea still, but one I thought would be fun.

Moi, I would help with Delteria Dev because its a kickass playerworld and is worth the effort, but unfortunately everyone else is too busy doing their own thing or making excuses which translate to me as "idgaf" to bother helping finish it anytime soon.
