When does detailing become too much?

I think Tom is going overboard with his GFX details.
He thinks regular squares and the such are boring.

Do you think his GFX have too much detail, or do you think they look good with the extra detail?

Draenin 01-25-2006 09:41 PM

I think they look good, quite honestly. I'd rather see attention paid to refining an image rather than just making it and leaving it as a rough copy.

Yen 01-25-2006 09:52 PM

Er..
I prefer the first image. He prefers the second image.

The first one is too plain! Silly Yen, stick to gscript. >_<

CidNight1142 01-25-2006 11:07 PM

I like the second, but I personally think the large gold head thingie at the bottom center is too much. If that were smaller/not there at all I think it would look better. So I'm gonna middle of the fence between Yen and Tom here.

Bl0nkt 01-26-2006 12:25 AM

What server?

Yen 01-26-2006 12:29 AM

Varandel (Bravo Debug)

The problem I have with it is that I have to push the text further over, to avoid hitting the corner things.
This leaves a big blank spot on the sides .
On the bottom, we have a huge blank space to either side of the mask.

Tom 01-26-2006 01:36 AM

lol, I love the head, hes my friend, AND he will change emotions randomly xD

davidpsy 01-26-2006 04:03 AM

I like things that are more complicated and detailed, I'm going with Tom on this one.

Draenin 01-26-2006 04:16 AM

Detailing usually shows that you put a lot of thought into the work you do. The same which applies to images applies to maps as well.

Zero Hour 01-26-2006 05:20 AM

Blookat always did really intricate work.
Donald does really detailed work.

I like their work.
e: Also, props to another CB graphics person.

Curt1zzle 01-26-2006 05:24 AM

Tom, you're all growed up babay.

haro41 01-26-2006 05:43 AM

i think his gold needs more contrast, but hey thats me. and the detail looks good, but kill the face on the bottom.

Ah, cool. I can't imagine you being very logical.

WanDaMan 01-26-2006 11:49 AM

I prefer the second one!

petro1212 01-26-2006 10:08 PM

.. Tom is right =o Second One >.<
Yen.. your queer eye is badly damaged.. go search for a new one on ebay :(!

Tom 01-26-2006 11:46 PM

Rawr, the second one with the face, i resricted myself with only 3 colours :P So thats why it looks like it needs more contract :) And its done on MS Paint.

p.s Petro, i finally found out who your character is supposed to be lol, Hes cool and has that dragon thing on his tounge :P

Rick 01-27-2006 08:18 AM

I like the one with the head... but the head is too big and a sore thumb, a UI should be non-distracting so you can easily view its content.

Yen 01-27-2006 10:14 PM

-Wanders off.- I got wtfpwnt.

Felix_Xenophobe 01-27-2006 10:38 PM

RAR!!1

second one.

Mykel 01-28-2006 05:31 AM

Yeah, second one by far.

Scott 01-29-2006 08:04 AM

Just because something has more detail and work put into it doesn't mean it's better. Ever heard of overworking an image? (Donald.) I prefer the first one myself. It's simple, effectice, and has some class to it. The second one has the idea of some nice embroidery for it, but it isn't done well in my honest opinion.

Cheers.

davidpsy 01-29-2006 08:11 AM

Can't say I have. :D

I disagree. While I agree with the fact that things CAN be overdetailed, the second one is far better than the first.

I'm afraid I'm going to have to agree with you.

Codein 01-29-2006 03:53 PM

Aye, the second one by far.

The face at as it stands appears to just be stuck in the middle, but i had'nt added the wings at that point, the wings gave it a feel of being a whole object. And that was an unfinished image which Yen wanted to see what players liked better :D
