Some levels

3 Attachment(s)
Well, I decided to post some work I did "recently" and inspire people to do something new other than stealing other people's idea's and giving a twist to them (like almost ever server does now and than *points at all the original "gun/gang" servers*)
(Offtopic: Why doesn't anyone ever make a platform server :O?? I bet if one server did it and it worked out... a handfull of clones would be made within a matter of months, PS I know of the failed attempts people had trying to make such a server.. most of them where butt ugly)

Cloud Level:
This is basicly a level thats suppose to look like its positioned above a normal level. (don't give me comments such as "shrink the island below :P.. I know that already) This level doesn't have much to do with tiling its basicly usage of custom jasc psp effects (not coral, cause i'm to poor to buy it and I dislike pirating) Its suppose to represent some kind "church".

Bar:
Not much to say about this actualy, made it a week or so ago basicly modified the wooden roof tiles and use some of my custom tiles and thats it.

Spar hall:
This is part of a sparring complex I did for Unholy Nation 2 months ago. I was bored and tried to make it a bit diffrent than your avarige ugly spar center. It never got used tho :\

PS: for those who wonder, the cloud level doesn't "lag" split it up in 16 images (the cloud) and than there some extra images, barrel's, statue's ect.

Crono 09-11-2005 07:28 PM

Very nice stuff there.

Benm00t 09-11-2005 07:48 PM

I like the cloud level. Very nice effect.

King homer daStupid 09-11-2005 07:51 PM

Wow those are hot good job.

agoat 09-11-2005 08:36 PM

No idea, but like I said its just a concept thing. Ill probely post the separe layers and method of how to create it realy fast. So that others can have a go (for those who don't know how to work with psp)

oh darn, school in 30 minutes :megaeek:

Mykel 09-12-2005 07:56 AM

Those levels are amazing. Honestly, some of the best I've ever seen.

Are you working on a server currently?
(I'm not trying to hire you, I don't even play graal, but I would play a server with levels of that calibur.)

WanDaMan 09-12-2005 08:09 AM

Angelus, you're too cool for school

NeoJenova 09-12-2005 11:28 AM

I think I love you.

Nice levels also.

The heaven level is ok, the images used in it are rather ugly though and kinda makes me wonder how there are trees sitting up in clouds. But don't get me wrong the idea is creative, just need to fine tune the actual graphics used to possibly give it a more heaven feel (white/gold objects?)

As for the other two other levels are they in a treehouse type structure or a bush-cave of some sort? I really do like the Angel you used in the first and third map but something like that should be unique to the level because when you reuse it; it loses its cool factor.

made a graphic you can use if you want to, but this is what I mean

Yeah the concept isn't totaly done yet. I tried to make some tree's but I'll wait till 32bit png's are allowed in the offline editor so I can use more detailed images and use transparency (its better for this kind of thing)

Oh and the style is more likely to be "Celtic/Mystic" with rune stones... ect

Nah, I basicly stopped working on graal servers cause I dislike alot of them right now. To many kids that want to do their own thing at all cost and do not get the point of collaboration ^^

I applied for some servers but they either give unvalid application urls, full email accounts or other ignorant stuff.

I might help our Rudora later on and I'm basicly waiting for someone who wants to start a platform server (Platform style - for those who do not know - is compare-able to the "marion" level style. Side ways) But a good platform server with an actual goal and a bit like Maple Story/Ragnarok Online/Dragon Raja... and some other good quality games. Anyone intrested?!?!?

PS: Ill post the cloud level in layers + small tutorials for those who wants to set up a new concept or try something new. It's pretty easy stuff (no airbrushing or other advanced techniques). Just using 4 or 5 layers and knowing how to set transparency to them (and imputting cloud's)
Heared Hiro also did a cloud/town design for Zenkou's Event Center. Knowing him it will probely be hawt ^^

Because having a nearly-full PM box obviously makes someone ignorant.

syltburk 09-12-2005 07:08 PM

You are a very good level maker angelus, take the credit and kiss it.

Darlene159 09-12-2005 07:11 PM

Very, very nice levels

Lao_Su2 09-12-2005 07:23 PM

I like the levels they remind me of when BirdBird started making those type of levels (no saying you copied because its completely different) for 2k1. Great job! *thumbs up*

Lance, I wasn't refering to you ;) . I knew that you had a full inbox and I simply lost intrest in "general g2k1" once I saw konidias's revision

Anyhow:
Small tutorial for those who want try do a simmilair cloud level:
First of all I used Jasc Paintshop Pro 7, so the steps included are based on that program.

First of all create a background image. The background image should be as big as on graal level 1024 * 1024 pixels:
(you can simply use a alt 1 level snapshot for this and use this as your "background layer")
http://img379.imageshack.us/img379/9...ound0rc.th.png

Now you would want to create a layer above the background for the mystic look (you can also try diffrent colours and effects to create a whole new thing) You can try diffrent transparencies I used 50% but use what you see fit.
http://img379.imageshack.us/img379/3...fade1fh.th.png

Now that you have your background done it's time for some clouds (other objects also possible, do what you see fit) The clouds used are default, they can be imput using the Picture Tub tool (if you don't have it you probely use a pirated version wich didn't include default tubes)
http://img379.imageshack.us/img379/5...loud8ms.th.png

You have now created the "level". You can imput objects as you see fit. If you need help with this create another layer. Create a 32 by 32 image and colour 2 of the 4 "blocks". Flood fill the new layer with this image (by selecting it as Styles>Pattern) You now have a nice grid so you can see where you would want to put optional objects (so they fit the graal 16 by 16 tiles)http://img379.imageshack.us/img379/4...rblocks4dr.png

What you now need to do is combine all layers and make the "grid layer" invisable. You can also add final touches such as a "sun burst" effect or anything that you desire. Once the layers are combined (keep in mind that you save it before merging) you need to cut the image up in 4*4 (16) blocks of 256 by 256 pixels so that you can put them in your graal level withouth causing to much lag.

After you put them in the level you hide the images and tile the area under it with the property you want the area to have. Add some light effects and other finishing touches and your new "1337" "level" is born.

Good luck :O *drooowls* can't wait to see some hawt stuff from people who can actualy work magic with PSP .. mmm Galdor maby?? ^^

PS: I know this is a rather rapidly done and chaotic tutorial for those who have never used psp or love adobe. But the truth is I dislike adobe :) so i'll never use it nor make a tutorial about it. Adobe has the same abilaties tho so you just have to puzzel a bit. Also ignore my periodical misspellings and total abuse the english language :whatever:

Wow, I'd love to see his work on Zenkou.

Ducati_Link 09-21-2005 06:00 PM

<3 love your levels like usual Ang :)
I remember you telling me about your idea with those clouds.. I must say it turned out better than I imagained.. as I wasn't sure how you were going to pull it off :)

Malinko 09-22-2005 02:11 AM

Oh oh, it's the cloud level you made Artanis and me. :)

Nice levels, some of the best I've seen.

<3 Angelus, Crono, and Wan <3

Edit:
This is why layered levels should be added on GraalOnline. A lot can be done. :)

excaliber7388 09-22-2005 03:05 AM

cloud level is awsome...btw, how is there no lag? I tried a lavel like it and it lagged quite a bit

The most important part is that you cut the image up in 4*4 ... so 16 equal blocks. If you where to use one huge image it would lag horribly and ontop of that it wouldn't be drawn correctly due to minor glitches graal gets when images are displayed outside of the players visual range.. and than the image shifts a little bit (quite rare but it happens sometimes)

If you where to use 16 images instead of one.. it also prevents dramatic colour loss... (by the way this is purely manual work so role up your sleeves and start working ;P )
