Graal.net Hosting for VIP and PlayerWorld owners

Web hosting beta test have just been released

You can access the control panel from:

http://vip.graal.net

When you have created your account using this control panel you will be able to upload your content using the ftp server.

The ftp space is created in real time but the web space is created some hours after, so wait a little bit to watch your web pages.

Player world admins must use admin account to create the web space.

Question about web hosting the general public and myself might/want to know:

Are we allowed to "discuss" other web hosting peoples?

unixmad 05-05-2004 05:24 PM

I don't see why you would like to discuss other Web hosting on Graal forums, we are now offering web hosting so there is no need to redirect players to other Web hosting company.

Graal web hosting is quite powerfull you have:

- 10 or 100 MB disk space
- PHP scripts
- Mysql

If you need more features just ask we will try to add them.

But you see, for free you can get the following-

Disk Space 300MB
Bandwidth/month 10GB
# Email Accounts 20
# FTP Accounts 20
# MySQL Databases 20
# Subdomain 2
Mailling Lists YES
CGI/PERL YES
PHP 4.3.4 + Zend YES
Frontpage Extension YES
99% Uptime YES
cPanel 9 YES
Fantastico De Luxe YES

-Copy pasted from their site :)

And all you need to do is make 35 posts on their forums and continue posting like what, 15 posts a week? Pfft, very easy. :asleep:

Spark910 05-05-2004 05:35 PM

No limitations on bandwidth here, so thats better.
20 FTP accounts, well doubtful you'll need more than the four provided.
No limitations on MySQL database sizes (number of) - just size they take
And I think CGI/PERL/PHP/Front Page is there
And cpanel isn't really needed for this service I don't think :s

Maybe then as a suggestion domain names should be able to be hosted, and then they could add some e-mail or so to it :o

Crono 05-05-2004 05:41 PM

And I doubt you'll use unlimited bandwidth on Graal...

This whole thing is a good idea though, so I'm not complaining. But 300 MB is very nice.

unixmad-Can we use this service to just upload graal-related files without making a website?

Myukoi 05-05-2004 05:48 PM

Too bad you can only use this to make graal playerworld and fan websites. :(

MagicalTux 05-05-2004 06:21 PM

Maybe you (Gerami) should remember that Graal Online is *NOT* an hosting company or anything. This service is just something that we provide to VIP and Playerworld, it's not intended to become an independant hosting solution.
Also there's no point discussing other web hosting people since Graal is *not* a web hosting system.

WanDaMan 05-05-2004 06:26 PM

Would anyone like to help me on it?

LegendaryTsukasa 05-05-2004 06:31 PM

Thats cool and all, but why would VIP need space o_O Most people will use it for other things...

Dach 05-05-2004 06:47 PM

Oh sweet, old school GFX!!
I better go get myself an ftp client, and learn me some Mysql x_x

Thallen 05-05-2004 07:04 PM

Awesome, I'm going to go try it out right now.

I'm just asking if we could discuss other web hosting solutions on the forums. x_x

protagonist 05-05-2004 07:19 PM

I can not access mine because my global RC's IP range is incorrect.

What should I do?

And he just answered it, saying no. Just drop it, not everything needs to be so complicating, use the web service for Graal, use your personal webspace for whatever else.

You could try getting it fixed.

I mean, if you wanted to.

I've been trying to for about 9 months. I had a lucky period where my IP got back to the right range, but that lucky period has long since passed.

Emails, forums, IMs, and PMs. Yes, I've covered them all.

Perhaps you are not contacting the correct person with the correct means.

Forum PMing Stefan works pretty well. It seems to take a maximum of a month or so to get an IP range updated, if he is busy.

My VIP runs out in 22 days.

That's a sad type of funny.

I do not think it takes 22 days to send a forum PM...?

With all the stuff that is happening, it is likely that Stefan is quite busy. I'll try it anyway.

So far it's taken about a week for Angel, Stefan, unixmad, and Lyndzey to answer a multiple-message forum PM...

WanDaMan 05-05-2004 08:14 PM

I don't get a reply from Angel, But all the others I do I guess :O

Haha i'm going to host a forums :p

Same. Giving us PHP access is awesome, I'll probably host my own vBulletin.

jake13jake 05-05-2004 08:35 PM

I would very much like to use this to move my Graal Classic Help site to, but 3 dots without a www is a bit much. Other than that.

I wouldn't mind whether or not you did add ads, just so long as it respected the design. I had to do that with my first long-running website, but I was the one that built in the ad. I don't know if that design would work quite as well with my messings with it in transition to my site (I love my vflip-L design, so easy to work with... so I continue using it) My ISP's webspace does not require nor request ads, though.

A better subdomain would probably lure me in, and also keep me subscribing to VIP.

Thallen 05-05-2004 09:59 PM

Woohoo, I was just activated! One question though: Why do I get an error when I try to CHMOD a PHP file? It says "it may not be supported on remote site".

Thought 05-05-2004 11:29 PM

Because they probably have disabled access from doing so ;-)

Still havn't gotten my confirmation e-mail. :o

Why? I'm sure the guys know that almost all PHP scripts require CHMOD permissions. Here's the one I've managed to do without CHMOD, so far. Just thought I'd keep the Graalians updated of when there beloved may exit the forums. :p

Thought 05-05-2004 11:42 PM

No, that is only if the server is configured to have PHP set up as CGI. If it's directly loaded into Apache it is not required.

Trevor 05-06-2004 12:58 AM

Is perl available? If so, what is the directory.

LegendaryTsukasa 05-06-2004 01:18 AM

Question: Where do I get this, FTP client thingy so I can actually access this FTP?

Skyerus 05-06-2004 01:26 AM

The site looks cool, nice job.

Too bad I can't activate my other account with VIP, I used a Graal.net email address and for some reason I can't receive e-mail on it. Oh well, I'll just upgrade when my gold time runs out. >_<

WS_FTP is far superior. ;)

LegendaryTsukasa 05-06-2004 01:58 AM

Where can I get that Thall?

And isn't free. SmartFTP is the best 100% free FTP client. Not that I think even a fully licensed WS_FTP is better than SmartFTP, anyways.

I used WS_FTP95, i just got my new website finally up (see signature) but alot of times it like goes offiline, like where you can't upload stuff, is that normal?

zs0 05-06-2004 02:39 AM

The thing is, I would probably buy it, but uh, I can't afford this. I've already spent enough upgrading account itself.

Thought 05-06-2004 02:56 AM

I use the FTP client built into UltraEdit.
