Maybe this analogy will help.
Imagine for a second that there is a car company called Linux Carmakers.
They designed a car called the Gruul and then spent a bunch of time and money developing the motor to power this car.
The Gruul doesn't sell very well; it's a $50,000 75kw hatchback with wheels made of cement.
Over the years they add a few cup holders to the Gruul but for some reason it's still not selling well and they just can't understand why.
So eventually they scrap the Gruul, but they decide to keep the car motor that they spent all that time and money making and they start putting it onto a bunch of bicycles, and hey what do know suddenly the bicycles are popular. So now the Linux Carmakers car company is focusing on improving the motor to make more types of bicycles, and they change their name to Euromotor.
And every few years or so somebody might do an engine swap and put the newest model of the Euromotor engine into their old Gruul car body, but officially Euromotor isn't producing any more new Gruuls.
Seems really clear.
