*shrugs* I'll make what I'm capable of, but I'm not too concerned if I can't do much better than what's up, in terms of graphics.

To be honest, I would be perfectly content having horrible graphics as long as everything I have described in the initial postings is realized.

If the players were actually useful I might be more inclined to care.

And if they don't like the look of the server, they may not play your server, so maybe you should care what they think.

Graal's current playerbase is composed of people those choose to play it because of it's graphics?

I was moreso pointing out that it is not good to have an attitude such as that towards your playerbase. But, honestly, trying to make a city with the default Graal tileset isn't very pleasing to the eyes at all. It looks like bland, uninspired levels with ridiculous buildings.

What do I owe to the playerbase? It is I who give them a service. It is I who give them my time and efforts. If it's not good enough, I won't lose sleep. The worst that would happen is that nobody would play, the server would be akin to Bomy Moons, and I'd just shut it down, saving myself the server fees, time, and effort.

I'm really not concerned with the opinions of players who sit by with their hands out.

As a creator of a game, you owe them something that is worth their time to play and have fun with. Isn't that what the fun of creating a playerworld on Graal is all about? Developing your own ideas for a videogame and easily implementing them, then allowing others to log onto your creation and watch them have fun with it.

I don't enjoy developing Graal things. I enjoy playing things. I go about to create this server not because I want to, but because I must. Ideally, this world would already exist and I could enjoy it without needing to make it myself. Unfortunately for me, it doesn't, and if I want something done, I'll have to do it myself.

I am not making this world so that I can enjoy playing in it after. I am not necessarily making it for others. Others have told me that they are very much looking forward to it after reading this thread (even after looking at the state of graphics), so I'll know at least I'll have company. If I don't please everybody, I don't care.

I'm making this server for me, not for you or anybody else. If anybody else wants to play, that'll make it more fun I suppose.

If I wanted to make a server to please everybody, I'd be asking for input. I'm not. I know what I want, and I'm off to do it. I inform everybody what I'm doing because company would be nice. And if somebody wants to offer to help, help would be nice. If not, it's not a big issue with me.

I'm pretty sure every manager/developer makes a server because they want somewhere fun to play. Otherwise they'd just play on a server instead of developing one. Nobody wants to just develop stuff that will never get used.

There's no point in even posting about your playerworld if you're not going to listen to the players or try to attract players to your server. Judging by the fact that you even stated that the server requires a lot of players to work, I don't think it's smart to ignore them.

I'm not going to outright ignore them. I've had people IM me and such saying they're looking forward to this, so my goal in posting this has already been accomplished.

Besides, I don't think GraalOnline is capable of attracting a large enough playerlist to really make the server work anyways. Sure, you look at UN or Era's population at times exceeds 100, but so many of those are trials.

Actually considering Graal's dwindling population I don't even care anymore.

I miss Graal from the 90's.

If you don't think the server will work, and you don't really care what the players want, only what you want, and you don't really care anymore....why make a server?
A server definately wont make it if it isn't made for the players enjoyment, and you don't give it your all because you "don't really care anymore"

Sorry, but I think you greatly lessoned your servers chances by the replies in this thread

Listening to the players input, and what they want is very important when making a server (speaking from my own experiances as a Manager of a server).

Seems like a waste of money and time if you really aren't expecting it to go anywhere

You're wrong. Stop assuming. On UN and Era, the number of trial accounts is small. There are maybe 10-15 trials at peak times on Era. Not entirealy sure about UN since I'm not staff there, but Era's playercount is mostly classic accounts. Account types are checked daily on Era.
