Intel Mac

Hello.

As of about one years ago, Apple released plans to sell Apple computers with Intel processors inside them.

Around this time, Stefan shared hints that with the new Intel Macs, there would be a version of Graal for the new Macs that would run smoother, and have developmental tools that Mac has lacked since the release of the Mac client for Graal.

One such post is here: http://forums.graalonline.com/forums...ad.php?t=62482

All versions of Graal, including the now released v5, have been created specifically for the PowerPC computers. Stefan promised that there would be a tools once the Intel Macs were created.

Currently, there are no tools for the Mac. In fact, there is no client for the Intel mac.

For Intel Macs to run PowerPC programs, they use Rosetta emulation technology. This emulation, as all emulation, is far slower than if it were running natively.

Universal applications can run both on PowerPC and on Intel Macs at full speeds. On most applications, not much is needed to port an application from PowerPC to Intel. As stated, Universal applications run on PowerPC and Intel macs, so in that case you only need to make one version.

As you have said that there would be Intel Mac versions of Graal, I was much expecting v5 to have this breakthrough. However, v5 is also PowerPC, and runs actually slower than v4 did on Mac. v5 runs faster on my older iBook G4, but it is still rather slow (the iBook has bad specifications).

I would really like to see a Universal version of Graal v5 made available to players, as well as development tools. The development tools I would like to see are:
  1. Remote Control for Mac. The scripted RC is nothing like the normal one, and it is impossible to script on.
  2. Graal Shop for Mac.
  3. Graal Level Editor for Mac. Please do not say the online one, because I'm quite sick of hearing this. This was supposed to be finished by Christmas of 2005. Two years ago.

So, can one of the admins please answer all of the following questions:
1) Will there be a Universal Mac version of Graal ever?
2) If so, when?
3) Will there ever be a version of Graal for Mac that has all of the features features that Windows has?
4) Will there ever be Mac development tools?

Thank you for reading this,
Chris Zakuto

Yah
Even on PPC, it's not that much faster.

Please read my post above.

I have partitioned my hard drive, and I have installed Boot Camp.

Boot Camp is very inconvenient. I would much rather use the Mac version of Graal.

The point of this isn't that I cannot run Graal, but that I would like to be able to on Mac. When I've paid for the game, I've always been under the influence that there would be a Graal Mac version.

Even the PPC one does not have all of the features of the Windows one.

As for you comment on OSX, these people did a nice job of comparing XP and OSX. (Also-- are you trying to tell me OSX sucks, yet Vista does not?)

Haven't received reports from Intel Mac users yet. It is slower than v4? That's quite strange - is it slower on all severs, or only on Classic servers, or only on Kingdoms/Zone ?

I'm an Intel Mac user, here's your report:
It's much slower on Kingdoms (almost 3x slower than v4), slower on zone (2x) and it's about 2x slower on all Classic (Playerworlds?) servers. It's laggy even with only me in the level. With a lot of players (imagine central in UN) it is horrible, and absolutley impossible to play (about 20x slower than Windows (on Boot Camp) and much slower than v4).

Not sure why it's slower than v4, but it's quite slower. If you like I can tape a video of playing on GK. (Edit: Nevermind, the video has so many frames cut out, it looks normal.)

Recorded videos will look like normal speed because Graal records it based on the number of frames I think, although other players will look running fast I guess?

I'll try to see if I can find any commercial Mac recording software which won't cut out frames.

Well, apparently I am unable to record this.

Anyway, can you please tell me if there will be a Universal version of Graal for Mac in the near future?

For me, graal kingdoms, zone, and era run incredibly slow. It is not even worth playing because everyone can run circles around me. I have to make the window very small to get a decent speed.
