I think allow the kingdom king/ head jailing office decide on how long...I'm sure no king will leave em in there to long. Plus allow a way to get out of jail but in which is very hard to do. So if you don't want to stay in jail do something high risk to get out, maybe have hidden jail tunnels with traps.

We can have like...for breaking out, you can try digging out, but there would be NPCs patrolling and if they catch you your sentence gets reset or something.
